  Can i use my optus pre-paid sim in one of these Virgin locked handset?
  I've searched google - whirlpool forum says yes but its a very old entry (almost 3 years ago)

    Virgin uses the Optus network, which AFAIK means that a phone 'locked to the Virgin network' is actually locked to the Optus, they're onw and the same. I'm actually on Virgin myself and can access Optus services such as wi-fi.

  If you read some of the more recent posts on Whirlpool you'll find that you cant use an Optus sim in a Virgin prepaid phone any more.Back in the good old days you could but not these days it seems.Feel free to correct me if im wrong.Just sayin! Good deal though!

    Yes, that is correct. Most new phones support Provider Lock so virgin can lock as a provider. earlier they do Network Lock (which is optus network).

  You can also get the Nokia E63 for $199 prepaid which is the same as the other networks that sell it but you only get the $25 voucher with virgin.So its the best deal out there for some of these phones.Not so sure about their plans but their online only deal, Beancounter, dosnt look too bad.Costs $80 or the same in credit to unlock Virgin prepaid phones or if you know someone that will do it for 10 bucks even better!!
