  • regarding the exact topic posted by TA, this looks like a great deal.

Staying on topic, has anyone bought from amazon france before?

Incidentally, has the october prize been awarded yet?

Essentially €40 for €100 worth of product? Buying from France is a pro and a con:

Pro: Sometimes the transfers are better.
Cons: Sometimes the transfers are worse and contain cut versions of the movies/shows.

Always check out Bluray.com (try the forums) to verify any of the things mentioned above.

    • Does that site show the differences between the various releases of the same title in various countries?

      • +2

Not usually. If you go to the respective subforum, you'll find others will warn/encourage/etc about certain Blurays. I always check the Amazon reviews as well. It saved me quite a bit of money in the case of Luther. Luther was severely cut, an episode cut each season, on the German releases. So I held off and the BBC actually released a UK transfer in a boxset which coincidentally arrived 15 minutes ago.

Some users even buy multiple copies from around the world as they love to collect the Steelbooks from France, the slipcover from Germany, the bonus features disc from UK, the limited edition statues from the USA, etc, etc, etc. The forum at Bluray.com have the most indepth knowledge of blurays that I've ever seen.

        • Yeah, I used to be one of those guys. I've got like 9 or 10 different versions of the lion king blu-ray, various steelbooks from different countries etc

  • I'd want to make sure there is an English sound track on there in HD audio, because by default the movie will be in French. Et ça sucks le big one.

    • Capitaine de bons conseils , le thé Earl grey ?

    • AFAICT every movie from an english speaking country (USA/UK/Australia) has at least VOSTFR (original track with french subtitles).

It's also displayed on the individual movies amazon pages generally.

  • Looks like some of them are also
    -Buy 2 get 1 free
    -Buy 5 get 5 free
    -Buy 2 get 2 free
In case you don't want to spend €50

  • Pity, couldn't find the complete season of The Office (US)!

    • Did you know Ricky Gervais is making a David Brent movie?!?? :-D I can't wait!

      • +1

Lol didn't know that. Sounds awesome!

    • Unfortunately, no. If you look at the page, it has no sales attached it such as this one where it has 3-4 sales attached to it.

Some of us still like to have a physical disc. Some people dont have streaming services. Some people cant get what they want digitally. Some people are still on low bandwidth caps. Some people collect movies and display them… there are multiple reasons.

What a ignorant thing to say.

      3D also

I'm guessing you're the sort of person who listens to poor quality mp3 rips on your $3000 bose sound system, or watches poor quality MPEG rips on your oled tv.

      Nothing beats the physical product.

where else do u get lossless surround audio: trueHD, DTS-HD MA, Dolby Atmos etc?

    • +2

Sick of people saying this. Blurays are amazing quality. I don't want to be downloading 25gb per movie just to enjoy 1080p with not-so-true-7.1-surround-sound. That would take me forever on my internet connection. Not to mention the space I'd eventually end up filling on my hard drives rather quickly. Discs will always have value, digital copies will not. Some releases come with collectibles. Oh, and something else important…

…it supports the industry so they can continue making awesome movies and tv shows.

      • Are DVDs still valuable now that BR is the norm?

        • Nah. I'm sure there are some rare/hard to get DVD's out there. Manufacturers are still mass producing DVD's. Doubt we'll see Blu-ray only in the next few years.

        • @Dagmar: I think most modern physical media formats are a gamble for collectors in the digital era for movies

  • Can you combine this with the buy5 get 5 free deal?

  • Doesn't work :(
