  • Good price for 900i

agreed…but has anyone bought from this crowd that can comment on their level of service & support, delivery time etc ?

  • My work got me this phone, not sure what they paid but the box they gave me had a retail sticker on it for $449 direct from Optus. Not sure about difference for a 900i but checked the settings and it is one. They gave me a genuine flip cover but not sure if that was included

    • Hmmm, that sounds more like it's S5 Mini than S5 just from the price tag. I think S5 would be at around $500 region (judging from how S4 is still sold at $400 region?) I wanted to be sure and wanted to grab one if it was at $449 from Optus, but, got lost mid way through.

      • Definitely nothing mini about it, but there's a chance Optus Business print the prices and label the phones just for us as we would be a big client.

Coming from an m7, this thing has a heap of bloat, not thrilled with touchwiz, the compass is dodgy and will send you nearly the opposite direction in google maps, and it's just a bit too big with the flip cover. Pros are solid build, has pretty much every feature Inc IR blaster, battery life is better than the m7. Replacement m9 should be here shortly, hopefully it's a bit smaller (still 5" tho)

        • I am very very jealous then.

Hmmm, are you on Lollipop? TouchWiz is famous for being very bloaty and Samsung Lollipop I felt was worse than KitKat (which says a lot about the lollipop version since KitKat version wasn't exactly nice). I'd recommend at least formatting it with Kies 3. It removes everything and flashes new firmware from Samsung (So it downloads firmware file, which is like 2GB), if the compass is that dodgy (at least that will eliminate possibility of software issues).

If you can be bothered, the chances are KitKat would run much better than Lollipop, so I'd recommend downgrading it to KitKat as well. I wouldn't touch Samsung TouchWiz Lollipop unless it's 5.1.1.

        • I got my S5 900i from Kogan and it was a Korean model, turned it on, and it upgraded to lollipop no problems, didn't need to root phone and chase ROMs, and it gets updates from Samsung because it hasn't,t been rooted. Better and cheaper then the 900i with local carrier bloat and waiting for them to release updates for Android.
Grey market, I don't have a problem if it's the right model so l get the rights bands. Failure rates, does anybody know the failure rate overall of Samsung mobile phones, or only their own isolated, small sample experience?

Only challenge with grey market is the reputation of the seller.

Even Samsung Australia doesn't guarantee how quickly phone is fixed, just they they will fix it, so they could also take a month…. nothing in their warranty that says if not fixed with a certain period that it will be replaced with a new unit. repairs could also be somebody else's that has been refurbished so they can do quicker change overs………. warranties….. how they operate and how we would like then to operate.

a lot of these grey market sellers have a service centres in Sydney, and they might fix locally, or they might send back to HK depending on the fault.

        • @Oversimplified: yeah I am on lollipop, can't be bothered as it's a loan phones and they will have it back by friday

  • Please note that buyers will be privately importing the phones from Hong Kong, and that there is no local warranty from SAMSUNG nor any Australian Consumer Guarantee.

    Hmmm…

"I wouldn't purchase from them. I bought an s5 of them. The sound quality for calls were absolutely appalling, took the plastic of the back of the phone and it took the Samsung logo with it, The "tampering seal" was broken so it showed me the phone was a refurbished one. I sent the phone back at my cost and it took me a month to get my refund. I kept getting told my replacement phone will arrive in 1-2 days after a month I had enough of listening to them and eventually they stopped replying to my emails so then I took it to pay pal and finally pay pal sorted it out and I got my money back. I STRONGLY ADVISE NOT TO DEAL WITH THEM!"

    And this..

Be careful. Yes, they've been on eBay for a while but take a look at some of the NEGATIVE comments in the profile given by simmo71.

They appear to be a HK-based business masquerading as an Australian one. There is no ABN or ACN quoted on their web site as required by Australian law. Contact hours correspond to HK business hours, even to the extent that they change by 1 hour when daylight savings time changes in Australia.

They are reasonably responsive up to the point at which problems occur; they then become unhelpful, intransigent and unresponsive.

In spite of the claims made on their web site, in my experience they ARE "drop ship" merchants. You place an order and it is shipped directly out of HK. The accompanying invoice is a pro-forma customs docket originated by some HK-based entity which lists the contents only as "Electronic Accessory" and states that it is a GIFT. No other documentation, including an Australian Tax Invoice as required by Australian law, is provided.

Good luck enforcing your consumer rights if there are problems.

The negative feedback on their eBay account includes many claims that the tamper seals on boxes have been broken and that IMEI of the device doesn't match the one shown on the box sticker. These claims correspond with my experience.

  • Anyone seen a Dual Sim version of the s5 (or Note4) at a reasonable price ??
