        • @mikey31: Yupe, so when two of you are traveling, jetstar charge you 2x$35 = $70, instead of $35 only.

        • +2

@kolorijo: Theres a button "Manage baggage allocation per passenger" instead of all passengers, that should let you change that, i'm just booking for one person so can't check to see if it works.

        • +1

@mikey31: Thanks Mikey, in the end I just booked 2x 15 kg, AirAsia website is easier to navigate than jetstar. But hey, i managed to book two tickets from Sydney with total $1056 inj March 2016, including seats, baggage from Japan & CC charge (paid by CC to get the travel insurance from it).

    • I'm fairly sure you can add more baggage online before your flight at the same price as you would during booking. It will cost you more if you do it at the check-in counter.

  • I'm going to cry, I just booked my one way flight for $320 and was going to book my onward one way today. I would have saved $320 if I had waited. Any ideas what I can do now?

    • I believe they have a $75 fee to change your booking, assuming it's classed as long haul international. I'm not sure if you can change from one way to a return trip but its worth looking into because it's still a big saving even with the fee.

      http://www.jetstar.com/au/en/planning-and-booking/booking-wi…

      • thanks but we can't change the one way to return.

I have my return flights sorted just need to get rid of this one-way ticket that is now an extra. It's $100 to change name (can only be done on the phone)

  • Decisions, decisions, should I go for it now or wait till the next special? Does anyone recall if they've been this cheap before. Been having a look at the past Jetstar japan and air asia deals and this seems the cheapest by far.

    • By the time you decide, fares will be gone.

    • I haven't seen anything cheaper than this. $500 odd sales are common enough, but I don't think you'll see anything better than this for a long time. Also Jetstar is better than Air Asia (the only other place you get these kind of prices) because the flights are direct while Air Asia tends to stop over in Kuala Lumpur. Not only is a stop over a pain in the arse, but it also means you can't bring anything back duty free from Japan (like super awesome and cheap whisky)

      BUY BUY BUY!

      • Just returned from Osaka with 4 bottles of Suntory Whickey each cost about $45 here.
So what I did - I went to the local store in Kojima village, bought 4 bottles just for 5,000 yen (around $60 aud)
Then I put them in cardboard, then swaddle them like a precious babies in dirty jampers and t-shirts, and put in a plastic sturdy case, then at airport asked to put a 'fragile' sign on my case and let it travel in checked-in luggage.
That's kind of hint to save money. Whiskey and spirits are amazingly cheap in Japan, starts from 1000 yen for 0.7l of a decent booze.
You won't find that kind of prices in duty free. Definitely not.

  • Just like many, making a spur of the moment booking, never been, anyone that has, would a week be fine or should I go for two?

    • I'd go for at least two. I spent a month there and it still wasn't enough :p

You want to give yourself enough time to see all the key cities and you can easily spend a week in Tokyo alone.

      • I spent 4 years there and didn't see enough.

        • So jealous! Love Japan.

        • I lived there for 5 years and still have new things to discover each visit.

  • Awesome, thanks! Also, is may/June a good time to travel there?

    • It's the beginning of their rainy season, so it'll be warm but usually cloudy. There won't be too much rain compared to a bit later in the season, but you should expect a little.

  • yay going to japan for 1 week on october

  • Great find OP, we just got back from the 2 for 1 deal in July, and this is even cheaper, and for cherry blossom season (maybe), can I resist, just before my kid turns 2 too?

  • I have been Japan three times, fantastic!!!
Just booked 2 person's trip in this Christmas, include baggage, just $800, thanks Jetstar!!!

    • With baggage? Really?! What dates? To Narita?

      • +2

        mel<->Tokyo
        departure 21/12/2015
        return 25/12/2015
departure baggage 15Kg (one person only)
return baggage 50kg (25kg per person)

        in total: $808

        • +1

what are you planning to buy!?

        • You going for just 4 days??

        • @iSamurai:

anything made in Japan is amazing.

I went to Japan with empty baggages and totally full when I am back every time.

        • @fatming:

don't have enough time, and I just go to japan for eating Japanese food this time.

  • Holy moly cow, so dam cheap!

  • +3

THIS was a no brainer decision for me - just booked without hesitation! Thanks OP!

Now need to submit more leave forms haha

    • +2

Likewise mate, no plans of going but this good a deal to miss. :)

    • How much with hesitation?

  • I was hoping to go to Tokyo in feb which isn't apart of the deal, only Osaka is.

But i did notice the flight to Osaka stops in Tokyo on the 16th feb.

Could i request to collect my luggage in Tokyo on the way up, (NOT board the Tokyo to Osaka flight) then on the way back home board the flight in Osaka?

This saves me from going back and forth from Osaka-Tokyo on my trip.

    • I don't think so. They automatically tag your luggage for transfer to Osaka. But if they do let you do this please update us as I also thought about this!

    • I thought Jetstar required you to alway pick up and drop off your luggage. I had to, and also change terminals, at Cairns in both directions.

  • Thanks OP…nice find.

  • +1

    Brisbane is from $377!

    • What dates may I ask? I'm only getting $408 minimum.

      • from memory it's from 11/5 onwards

  • +2

    What about perth?

    • +2

      Always a separate country

  • where can I sell my NRT - MEL direct flight? I've never had to sell a Jetstar flight! any ideas?

    • I think you need to pay for a name change which usually results in being more expensive than the actual flight.

      • yup, name change is $100 :(

        • Plus fare difference. You therefore have to be willing to seĺl your ticket for at least $100 less than you bought it to make it worthwhile for someone to buy it from you.

  • Great price, particularly for those who purchased Gift Vouchers earlier this month and got an extra 10% on face value. Avoids the credit card fee and makes it a measly $314.10 return from Gold Coast to Tokyo!

  • Thanks OP. Booked in May with bags, seats and credit fee for travel insurance $883.

  • Those prices are nuts. Too bad I've already booked my flights. Maybe if there's something towards the end of next year or 2017.

  • Yay booked for May! 3 weeks baby!! Now to find hotels! Looking very heavily booked though, slim pickings!!

Going back to Japan for the third time, so excited!!!

    • +2

This far out a lot of hotels won't even be available for booking yet. I wouldn't worry about everything being booked out.

      • Ah so you think when Expedia is showing so many of them as fully sold out it is just because they aren't open for bookings? I would have thought they would be available for much further in advance than May.

        • +2

Yeah it's a bit of a quirk with booking Japanese accommodation. You can really only book ahead 6 months tops. Lot's of hotels are more like 3 months.

I'd leave it alone for a while (which is advice also to myself, since I've just booked March/April from these fares!)

        • @Poimandres: Cool, thanks for the info. Much appreciated! Enjoy your trip :)

  • Thanks for posting this! Honeymoon booked!

Now, to figure out an itinerary…

We want to do the whole onsen thing, hot springs, see rad nature stuff.

Rail pass or hire car? If a rail pass, are these guys the go?
    https://www.japan-rail-pass.com/

    Welcome any ideas, thanks!

Edit: we're off to Osaka for about 15 days in March

    • +3

      don't hire car in japan.

      public transport is fantastic!!

    • +1

Don't hire a car, unless you can read kanji and understand Japanese fluently its not that easy for find your way esp if you go out of the major cities plus parking is EXPENSIVE. Trains are the way to travel everywhere.

      • +1

Just don't be dragging you luggage on to the train during rush hour! Death stares for you! X(

        • That's right! unpleasant but unless you know how to Takyubin your luggage not other option as its pretty much always peak hour if you're on the Yamanote line.

        • +2

Definitely rail pass is the way to go. As for luggage, what we did was use a courier company located at Narita airport terminal to courier our 2 large suitcases to our booked hotel in Kyoto at our last stay so all we had with us roaming Japan was 2 cabin suitcases and a couple of backpacks. The cost was only $25AUD per bag and it should be a bit cheaper say if u want them sent to Osaka.

  • Nice find. I'm on my way mid April for 10 days :)

  • +1

    Must resist…

From past deals it appears that there are similar deals such as 2 for 1 so the total for two people would be about the same…

  • Any idea why an infant is $40 on return from Tokyo when everyone else is free?

    • $40 is infant fee not fare?

      • +1

        Fare; not fair
        Fair; not fare

I'd hope they're supplying a bassinet for that. Otherwise, not fair.

        • Yeah that won't happen…

  • In the middle of waiting for my renewed paper to be sent to me- can I book flights tonight without my new passport number?

    • +4

You dont need passport to book your tickets.

  • So damn tempting. If I weren't planning on going to Taiwan next year I'd jump on this immediately.

  • Do you need a visa if spending say a week in Japan or just a passport?

    • Depends on what passport you are travelling on

    • +2

      Just a passport.

    • +1

I spent a week on my visa, once.

      The exchange rate was terrible.

  • Hmm, wondering if I could book a cheap flight from Syd to Cairns then to Tokyo/Osaka. It's a substantial saving, but a bit riskier with the connecting times.

Edit: Just checked Syd-Cairns leg separate is ~$150 alone. Better to go with the 'packaged' price of $440.

  • very few hotels available in july - any ideas why? is it as someone stated above, because its too far out time wise?

    • Yes, accommodation bookings in Japan are generally released on a per-season basis. So you would only be able to book closer to your departure date.

    • +1

We just got back from a mid-late July trip, it might be a bit far out now, but the hotels definitely fill up, it's Japanese holiday period, we only booked our hotels in May which was ok, but any later and you'll be hard pressed to find good hotels with availability. You'll be fine finding hotels earlier next year I'm sure.

      • Any suggestions on the hotels that's good?

        • airbnb is cost effective.

        • @mooreshady:
Tried it? Mind sharing your experience?

        • +1

          @grab_ur_freebies:

not yet. Just booked airbnb yesterday. But first contact the owner/host and see the reviews for assurance.
I will be going to Japan during Easter period.

Although the cost of renting it is shown, mind that it's only for 1 person, additional 1 will cost more (sux), and add on top of service fee and cleaning fee, it's almost same as hotel, but in Japan case, you can buy and cook your dinner (way cost effective).

In Japan, buy and cook your own dinner, it's amazingly cheap. At around 8pm-830pm, those "Coles" supermarket sandwiches (bento, sushi in Japan case) are half-priced. Sometimes you can see they sell wagyu beef for $8 per 100g, that's if you are lucky.

        • +1

Just make sure it is near a train station for easy access and easy to find.

        • Depends where you are going, type of traveller, who you're travelling with, and what your budget is…

        • @mooreshady: $80/kilo, lucky?! Jaysus!

        • @Utopian:

Yes if you eat the best, i mean BEST wagyu beef in the world.

In Australia, normal, i repeat, NORMAL wagyu beef is already $90/Kilo.

  • +1

thanks OP, managed to find 2 people return to tokyo from sydney for $792

    • Do you mind sharing the dates? :)

      • +1

        8-18th jun

        • +2

He meant, sharing your dates - the people you're going with

        • @montorola:

Thanks for pointing that out, I was kinda being vague.

        • +2

          @victorheaven: oh right sorry.

going with tones, hes had a rough week, needs a break ya know. didnt get checkin baggage so hopefully 7kg of onions will be enough.

  • Thanks OP. Got 2 people return for $818 with some additional baggage ..Cheers!

      • Thanks mate :)

  • +1

THanks OP. Tokyo locked in for June :)

  • Does this include taxes?

    • +1

It does indeed, but not baggage. You can pay direct deposit to avoid and additional fee's.

  • Impulse bought some tickets for my bday. Back to Nippon.
