Where are the cakes made? China?

  • Hi deal junkie,
These mooncakes are imported from and made in Malaysia.

RRP $16.50 is way overpriced… $15 for 2 is more reasonable and close to market price, but still can find some cheaper ones in chinese grocery stores

    • +4

yeah made in china ones… enjoy your lead and melamine and whatever else they use…

      • +1

Huge generalisation there. You probably consume more things made in china than you know

    • Hi ccwwayne,
These mooncakes are made from organic ingredients and are sugarfree hence the higher price. However we are running the BOGOF promotion now so you are welcome to try some for the price of one!

Ok.. Will give a try, $15 FOR 2 is reasonable as I said

Is it coming with a metal box for buying 4?

        • Does that mean it is $30 for a box of 4 mooncakes?

        • Hi ccwwayne,
Great! Unfortunately we've run out of the boxes for 4. However, we do still have boxes of 2. Kindly send an email to order. Thanks :)

The irony of it being more expensive BECAUSE it has one less ingredient :p

        • Hi SirFlibbled,
There is no sugar in our mooncakes, it is instead substituted with Isomalt and suitable for diabetics.

  • What're the nutritional values in these like? I'm not from Melb but would like to know anyway.

    • lard is an ingredient

      • Hi tyler.durden,
Our mooncakes are vegetarian and do not contain any lard.

        • Could you please post up the nutritional details? And how much would shipping to Sydney be?

        • @Yanoflies:
          Hi Yanoflies,
Our manufacturers have done lab test reports and are waiting for the nutritional information. Delivery to Sydney for 1-2 boxes will cost $11. Thanks

  • I wouldn't mind trying the Fresh Panda Pure Lotus Paste variety.

    • Hi TightBottom,
Kindly send an email to [email protected] to place order. Thank you!

  • Respect for posting moon cakes for moon festival.

  • Hi OP, where can I get this in Sydney?

    • Hi John5teen,
Our mooncakes are only available in Melbourne currently, but I'd be happy to post some to Sydney for you. Kindly send an email to [email protected] and we can work something out. Thanks!

  • I don't understand, when you say sugar free, do you use no sugar in making the actual outside layers?

For people who does not know how to make mooncakes, sugar is a key ingredient in making the pastry for the mooncake - you turn sugar into syrup otherwise the pastry is not as what you see.

    Negative. Not a bargain.

    • This. It's twice the price of a normal mooncake. Fair enough that they're organic and sugar free. But you'd think that $15 each would be the 'normal' price.

  • What is this certification you speak of? Shouldn't certification be by some statutory or regulatory body, not just some doctor (whose title doesn't require capitalisation…)?

    • Hi OzzyB,
Our mooncakes have been certified suitable for diabetics. As these mooncakes are a new product made in Malaysia, the manufacturer has so far obtained certification from a specialist in Malaysia. They are currently in the process of obtaining certification from the Malaysian Diabetes Association and organic certification.

      • Could you name who has certified it? It all seems very vague.

        • Hi SirFlibbled,
Our mooncakes are certified suitable for diabetics by Dr. Vijay Ananda Paramasvaran, a consultant physician and endocrinologist from Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. You can view the letter here https://www.facebook.com/1607380369530496/photos/a.162014561…

        • @littlekd: australian certification? Where is the australian standard cert? Icould get my doctor to write anything up as well.

Just saying its organic and sugar free to try and pry into an aussie niche market is not how it works…asians like them foods sugary and full of msg and fat!

        • @seigweilo:
          Hi seigweilo,
Our mooncakes are a new product and imported so there's only Malaysian certification. We are in the process of obtaining certification from the Malaysian Diabetes Association and organic certification.

Have these been blessed by a Christian priest? Please cater to diversity more

  • Placed an order for green tea and pandan… will it be available for pickup on Tuesday?

    • Hi Craze,
I've received your order. It will be ready for pickup on Tuesday. Thank you!

Some of these comments here sound very much racist or xenophobic. Yeah thats right, I played the race card, but I find it all in very poor taste.

Focus on the f**king deal people.

    • Which comments, blahman?

  • +2

Sugar free moon cakes? Worst idea ever.

Also Lotus paste is a terrible filling!

  • What's the point of crapping on about your personal preferences. If someone doesn't like it don't buy. This is for a niche market, be it diabetics or those who don't want to become one. It may not be the best tasting mooncake but I don't think it's sold as such.

Wiki : Isomalt is a sugar substitute, a type of sugar alcohol, used primarily for its sugar-like physical properties. It has only a small impact on blood sugar levels and does not promote tooth decay, i.e. is tooth-friendly. Its energy value is 2 kcal/g, half that of sugars. However, like most sugar alcohols, it carries a risk of gastric distress, including flatulence and diarrhea, when consumed in large quantities. Therefore, isomalt is advised to not be consumed in quantities larger than about 50 g per day for adults and 25 g for children. Isomalt may prove upsetting to the intestinal tract because the body treats it as a dietary fiber instead of as a simple carbohydrate. Therefore, like most fibers, it can increase bowel movements, passing through the bowel in virtually undigested form.

Using isomalt is not a bad idea but for diabetics its just marketing hype. Even if you were diabetic, you could still eat the normal ones and end up with the same calorie load if you had half of the portion size.

The best tasting ones are still those proper ones made with lard and sugar. Mooncakes made without lard are just like pies made without butter, you just lose that flavour dimension in the crust.(watching too much masterchef again….)

Price wise, for mooncakes, a lot depends on their branding. IIRC, some of the best and most expensive are from hongkong, which is now part of china but i would rate their food manufacturing practices slightly higher than those of mainland china.

  • I thought mooncakes were made in Amsterdam?
