  • Any comments about this phone? I'm looking for a cheap and nice phone, no big specs and big screen, but able to open a browser, the regular youtube video and other basic stuff without lagging

This or the Meizu M2 note would do the job then … Meizu is a lot cheaper than this

Be mindful of the size as many people find 5.5 inch phones big . I use a nexus 6 behemoth and it is never an issue

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/210399 K3 note. All bands covered. Just need to flash a new ROM which a toddler could do.

      • i am addicted to flashing roms, but the redmi doesnt seem to have too much support for clean android roms, will look into the K3 note, thanks!

        • +2

          That's because it's a very new phone
I think in the long run this phone will have pretty good custom ROM support

K3 Note no way to use it without a flash … :p

The one comes with it is rubbish.

Xiaomi/Redmi phones are bloody great! I haven't tried this specific model, but among my immediate and extended family, we have a fleet of four Xiaomi Mi3 and three Redmi Note 4G LTE phones, some bought over-the-counter in Singapore and Indonesia, some bought online from AliExpress. We impulse-bought a couple on a trip to Singapore, then bought more later once we realised just how good they are! I've found they tend to be about AU$100 cheaper from AliExpress than over-the-counter.

This model has a better spec than either of the Mi models I'm familiar with. I find performance on the Mi3 and 4G LTE to be good, no notable lag, with browser, youtube, etc, etc. It's all good.

When buying these phones, MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE that it will work in your country (Australia, I guess). This particular model looks like it will be fine here, but Xiaomi does make a number of variants of their phones, some quite country-specific. The ones made for the Chinese domestic market, for example, won't be much use outside of China.

Operating system wise, Xiaomi has shamelessly 'honoured' Apple iOS with their MIUI OS, so it makes for a really comfortable and easy switch for someone making the big switch from an iPhone to Android. I tried MIUI v6, but preferred MIUI v5 (v5 is a little less iOS7-like, and has a couple of extra functions). I just tried MIUI v7 yesterday; it looks good, but it's not quite ready yet, so I switched back to v5.

The price on this deal is definitely the best I can find right now, but given my past ugly ugly experience with geekbuying, I'd pay the extra US$18 and order it on AliExpress. I trust AliExpress, I don't trust geekbuying.

      • Any preferred vendor on Aliexpress?

        • +2

Not really, no. I just buy from whoever after checking really carefully to make absolutely sure that I know what I'm getting. AliExpress has a lot of copypasta between items for sale and some pretty impressive Engrish, so it's important to check thoroughly. A supplier (ebay: 'seller', aliexpress: 'supplier') with decent feedback, liberal use of the word 'original' (meaning 'genuine'), tips in the ad on how to authenticate the product with Xiaomi, and a generally honest looking ad is generally a pretty safe bet.

The coupon doesn't work……It said: This coupon code has ultimately reached the limitation usage times.

    • Several coupons were released on our Facebook Group this week with limited uses. I'm not sure when another one will pop up.

  • Gearbest vs geekbuying????

    • it's the bout to knock the other one out!

  • Which one is better?

Was gonna buy this phone from gearbest but bad reviews and little cheaper here also

  • +2

Geekbuying is still better than Gearbest in my opinion when it comes to delivery times.

  • Code does not work GG

    • marked as expired.

      • The Geekbuying email I received stated 30 pieces only…

        • They make very little profit from selling at these prices (<$10 usually) so that's why the quantity was limited.

  • I bought this in China for CNY 799, which is around AUD 180.
    Great android phone to own
