    This is a bargain.
New X10 MTK chpset should leave pones like the Lenovo K3 Note in the dust.
Pity GB is so unreliable with delivery.
I ordered a K3 note from them and 6 weeks later they were still telling me it will ship in 3-4 days. So I canceled the order.

  • Am I doing it wrong?
GB seems to offer payment by Paypal only. I'm sure I've used MasterCard before.
Paypal currency conversion tax is about $10-$15 on this transaction.

    • +2

You can pay without paypal currency conversion via paypal. There is a button somewhere in paypal to tell it to pay using original currency.

      • It took me a while to figure out where you can currency in Paypal last night. The Manage Currencies option is buried deep in Account Balances. Apparently Paypal doesn't make it easy for you or doesn't like you to change primary currency so it can charge you big on currency conversion.

        • +1

I remember when you attempt to pay, you choose your credit card.
It will say "Paypal Currency Conversion" after you chosen your credit card, just click that link and it will allow you to change how it behaves. There is no need to change your account's primary currency.

          If you look at this:
          http://thebackpackr.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/paypal-cc…

There is the "Other Conversion Options" link under the payment method, click there and you can change it easily.

    • yep, it only accepts Paypal now

To use your own card's currency exchange rate, select the Bill me in the currency listed on the seller's invoice. option.

      To find it,
      1. Log into Paypal on their website.
      2. Click Settings
      3. Under Payment Settings, click Pre-approved payments.
      4. Select Set Available Funding Sources(right hand side)
      5. Select Conversion Options next to your credit/debit card.
      6. Then select the Bill me in the currency listed on the seller's invoice option

      • Thanks very much for explaining it so clearly. +1, Cheers.

  • Is this CPU better then MTK 6795? Or are they same chip?

    • Same chip, just the T or turbo version with an extra 200MHz on all 8 cores and probably slightly higher clocked GPU too.

2GB Ram is holding me back from trying one of this. Wanted 3-4GB Ram..

        • What real difference does it make?

  • +2

Dam………. I have a Jiayu S3 with the 6752 CPU and its very fast. Sad to see this great deal and not able being able to justify the purchase.

  • Any thoughts on this compared to the Doogee F5? $50 cheaper

  • Is this a good buy or should I wait for Xiaomi Mi5? I am not in hurry but not sure if the price will be as good as this one. Any idea please?

    • +4

This is a lower end large phone, the Mi5 will be a high end smaller phone.
I think you need to pick a budget and size before even starting….

    • +2

Also consider dual SIM, microSD slot, amongst other things.

My gut feeling is that there will be dual SIM but no microSD slot in the mi5.

      • Yes the head of Xiaomi was featured in an article and said SD cards are unreliable and cause more issues than internal memory, so they are being phased out as 64gb devices become the norm.

        • That's a shame.. I'm still a fan of microSDs..

Good luck trying to get them to fix your broken item, dont buy from here

  • This phone would have been great if it had b28 support.

Yo TightArse, can you negotiate a better deal? I suggest XiaomiDatArse

  • is the battery removerable or soldered in? and does it work with liveconnect?

    TIA.

Why Ozbargain doesn't ban this site. They are a total joke and chances of you getting from them is 50/50 not including waiting period of 60 days. They attract buyers with cheap prices but take your money and give you headaches for the next 60 days then more headache for refund.

The whole internet forum talks about Gearbest being one of the worse scam sites out there.

Xiaomi products are pretty good I have been using the Mi4i for about 2 weeks now. The hardware is well designed but affordable. The real surprise to me was the software - its actually really good!!! I was a pure android/Nexus nerd, but I feel the MIUI skin is really well done and in some ways better than the stock Nexus skin!! No need to root/install roms. Also they release updates every month or so for the stable channel!! I am a convert I think!

On the other hand gearbest is apparently not good. Maybe better to buy from quality deals AU on ebay??

But defs redmi note 2 looks like a great buy you wouldn't be disappointed! Xiaomi is the 4th largest smartphone seller in the world (Samsung then Apple then Lenovorola are top 3) and hence they have a good support/backing compared to other dodgy brands like Doogee or Elephone or Ulefone (Meizu seems okay but not as well supported as Xiaomi)

As always guys make sure to read this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/208703

    • +1

Totally agree, they cleaned themselves up for like a month when Ozbargain suspended them and now it is back to old games. The rep is helpful but she is on like once a week and reads 1 line.

It is so frustrating because they could make way more through quality service but most of the time they just leave a sour taste in the mouth.

      • I've decided to make sure every time somebody post about gearbest i'm going to post this.

    • Unfortunately not, the same 32gb model is more expensive there.

      • Yeah the mobile app hides this.

  • Any improvement compared next to 2014 LG panel, Tianma 5.5 inch?
And re: Samsung sensor, compare with 13MP OnePlus Cam?

Is MIUI 7 out of beta?
Looking for high visibility yellow colour.

I don't like Gearbest so JD has the same model for an extra $6 USD, people you should buy from JD and pay the extra for piece of mind.

    http://en.jd.com/product/Original-XIAOMI-REDMI-NOTE-2-Prime-…

    Their coupon code is JD999.

  • I was lucky enough to try this phone out in Chongqing a fortnight ago at the Xiaomi experience store (well more showroom, as they don't sell anything). Unfortunantly, I could not order one while in China (I got back this morning). It really is an awesome snappy phone.

I wish this deal was not with gearbest, but alas, I think I might have to purchase it.

    • Whoa cool. How did you manage to get such an opportunity?

  • +1

Buy only if you're willing to wait forever.

It's on pre-order. I pre-ordered an IPV D2 from them on 10 July. The pre-order ended 30 July. Guess when they shipped the item. ON 7 SEPTEMBER. I asked them to refund me the money and, guess what, they said they couldn't because my item was already packed and was on the out queue.

I ordered an Ulefone Be Touch 2 the other day. Guess what? They don't have stock and will ship 10 days from now. I asked for a refund.

So, buy only if you're willing to wait. Caveat emptor.

  • Everbuying also has presale till 17/9

    16GB USD 159.99 with code RMNote16

    32GB USD 179.99 with code RMNote32

    http://goo.gl/d0b5kW

  • For those who don't know what a company Everbuying is. Everbuying is affiliated to Gearbest.

    • +1

In which case, it is probably a good idea to look at some of these OB posts before purchasing from them https://goo.gl/QrNAZg

      • +1

Everbuying? More like Everwaiting, and ultimately Neverbuying!

        • +1

Maybe better to buy from JD, now down to USD 145.99 for 16GB version.. .

        • @kusala: hmmmm 0.2GHz and 16GB less for $34 saving…..hmmmm……….

        • +1

Tweaked CPU vs money stays in my pocket is pretty easy

        • @daver: sold, though the crappy conversion rate sucks.

  • So whats the verdict this a good deal thinking of getting this phone as a backup for my s5?

    • +4

The S5 might become your backup lol.

  • is it any better than Asus Zenphone 2?

    • Network wise definitely not, spec wise they should be similar.

    • AZ2 receives low band 4G, sadly at the expense of toggleable (DSDS)4G/4G.

      • I don't think there's dual 4G phones at the moment though… Not even 3G+4G, only 2G+4G.

        • Never both connections running in parallel, that's true. By (RN2) toggleable, ('switchable') I mean to flip a setting in Android, and use secondary Sim's internet taking it off voice, GSM<>LTE and back and forth. The sim cards can stay put, in contrast to most dual-standbys which required swapping them around /for QoS.

  • I forgot to apply the coupon code but emailed them later and got the coupon difference refunded. +1 to customer service!
