OZBARGAIN

I am posting this deal on behalf of a friend.
She has a dental practice in Jindalee, Brisbane, and she is running a promotion for September.
At Herman Dental Clinic, your friendly dentist in West Brisbane, you can get a Checkup, 2 x Bite Wing XRays, a Scale Clean and Fluoride Treatment for $99.00 only (valid for September).
My understanding is that such a service would normally cost $305.00
You can email from the webpage or call on 07 3279 4455 to arrange an appointment.

Just got a call from her and, if you mention OZBARGAIN, she will give you the ozabargained price of $90.00
Thank you

      Good if you haven't got a regular dentist.

      You mean one like this ?

      • +3

        LOL. A true ozbargainer buys a cheap dremel and some cheap whiskey.

  • +5

    Last time I looked into just getting a cleaning, the cheapest I found in Sydney was $120.
    $90 seems like excellent value

    Pretty sure I paid around $50 for this earlier in the year…

    • +1

      If so, share where.

        • +1

          Yeah but the deal says nothing about part payment from private health.

          I had the exact same service from DB dental (WA chain) this week for $251 so $305 is inflated anyways

    Funky!

  • -2

    my dentist does the above and charges me 10 bucks after swiping my bupa card, and i go twice a year.

    • +10

      Thats so cool, how much does a bupa card cost per year ?

    • +2

      $0 with Medibank Private, twice a year. AND a free new tooth brush + a tube of tooth paste.

  • Awesome, I can combine it with this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/209133

  • +55

    This is an awful dental practice. I've had friends go there for a regular checkup and end up with bills totalling more than $2k. Unlike other dentists this one doesn't tell her patients what the cost is before doing any procedures.

    She used to operate under a different name until the complaints started rolling in. She's renamed everything to get rid of bad press on the web.

    • Is it even in the same spot?

      • +6

        Yes, same spot. Different branding. I remember that dentist's name very well.

        • +8

          Gave you a +1, thanks for the heads up.

        • +3

          @XCelR8:

          No worries. Happy to help out. There are plenty of great dentists out there. This one isn't one of them.

    • +2

      what was the old name?

      • +13

        It used to just have "Dentist - Dr. Mirela Herman". They've restarted the web presence now. I remember Google reviews mentioning unnecessary procedures being performed by this same lady.

          @unity1:

          Wow, thanks for the heads up

        • +1

          @unity1: Great post! But if the practioner is reprimanded, can she operate a dental clinic I wonder?

        • +2

          @freakthe:

          My understanding of being reprimanded means you get 'blacklisted' on the AHPRA site for a certain period of time (in Mirela's case, it's 3 years from 18 Feb 2014) and you're not allowed to practice for a certain period (usually a few months). I'm a pharmacist and one of my colleagues was reprimanded a couple of years ago. They weren't allowed to 'practice' for about 3 months.

          If the 'Registration Status' in the AHPRA site shows you're 'Registered', then you're allowed to practice. If 'Reprimanded', then you're not allowed to practice.

          TL;DR, reprimanded means you get a slap on the wrist, can't work for a few months, and your name gets blacklisted for a certain period of time so potential employers (and patients) can get a warning if they're savvy enough to look you up on AHPRA

        • +1

          @takamine:

          I looked at the link.

          which bit shows the problem?

          http://www.ahpra.gov.au/Registration/Registers-of-Practition…

        • @takamine: Your colleague would have been suspended for 3 months. A reprimand doesn't necessarily result in a suspension.

        • +7

          @unity1:
          Great work antler and unity1! Once again someone tries to cash in on OzBargain and unexpectedly gets exposed as being no good! This is the power of the OzB collective at its finest!

        • @takamine:
          Thanks for the explanation @takemine. Great that you are a pharmacist - coz to my understanding, a pharmacy must be owned/operated by a registered pharamcist.
          If the pharmacist owner/manager is reprimanded, he/she will not be able to run the business - even though he/she is not prescribing drugs. Would that be correct?

        • +1

          @thejew:

          "reprimand" down the bottom.

        • +10

          @unity1: Good work!
          I will revoke my neg on 18 February 2017.

        • +7

          @unity1: Thanks. I recommend all people check every health practitioner they use with AHPRA. Unfortunately very few people realise it exists.

        • +1

          @Davo1111:

          Wow that website has a shitty layout!

          But I found it

          The decision is effective from 18 February 2014. The reprimand is to remain on the public register for three (3) years.

          Thanks :)

        • +1

          @unity1: Thanks!

        • +8

          This post will undoubtedly backfire on her business. Google her name and the Ozbargain post is already indexed at around 30. No doubt we will see this moved into the top 5 as it is viewed more often.
          Ozbargained!!

    • +4

      They must have left the nitrous on to think they could brush ozbargainers off with false tooths.

      What an incisor victory for the power of the internet!

      Fangs for a good laugh.

    • +2

      thanks for letting people know.

      a health practitioner that has been guilty of wrong doings is no deal at all. reprimanded by your industry group is not good, nor is changing business names to try to hide it.

  • +25

    Woah! the tooth hurts!

    Hermann Goering's dental chop shop?

  • +8

    Probably best to go to your regular dentist and get them done. Always unwise to look for bargains in parachutes or health care :)

  • +3

    Might not be the best, but still better than Walter Palmer's River Bluff Dental

  • +13

    Technically she should be reprimanded for posting this deal as well. There is the reason you do not see medical deals on Oz bargain. It is because, online advertising on Facebook and other places such as this is against the rules in most medical boards in Australia, the dentist is trying to get around the rules again by having a friend post this deal.

    • +12

      really a friend or just pretending to be someone else?

    • +2

      The ADA doesnt have anything specific against advertising in public sites and forums. The most notable difference is that unlike other countries like USA they don't allow patient testimonials or before/after style photos. Also patients should not be pressured or scared into taking up treatments.
      Apart from that they are quite strict on usual advertising conditions like "dont be mieading", " state all T&Cs clearly"

  • +3

    Much dodge

  • Wouldn't go near this scammer with a 40 foot pole.

  • +1

    It's not a retail business. Their cost of doing business is largely their skill and time.

    They are discounting their price. I wonder which of the two assets above they are devaluing.

  • +6

    I live in Jindalee and may have just taken this up if not for being made aware of her past.

    Cheers guy

  • +2

    My sincere well done to the OzB folks who uncovered this dodgy charade. The OP and this deal should be neg'd for trying to pull such a blatant deception.

  • +4

    Tell your "friend" to not bring this type of thing to OzB in the future.

  • +1

    Someone should send them a link to this page :)

  • +3

    Hahaha, look at the voting history. A whole bunch of upvotes to get it to the front page, then just negs. So dodgy…

    • +1

      I don't think the votes that got it to the front page were dodgy. I was the second person to + vote the deal (since revoked) as it seemed like a good deal. I came back to check the details today so I could send my wife there and a little more information had come to hand which is why the negs started rolling in.

      • +3

        That kinda bothers me. Regardless of the quality of service, this sort of promotion is frowned upon by both the medical community and OzBargain guidelines. As a fellow doctor, it cheapens our profession. We shouldn't encourage it.

  • +2

    How unfortunate. I wonder if you can ever come back from something like this.

    Thought I had found some scaling that could be done for cheap.

    From what I've read the check up and the bite x rays could be a window for her to suggest other unnecessary treatment. Sounds just like a cheap RWC and a 3K bill to change all your suspension bushings.

  • +2

    With ozbargain these guys have taken on more then they can chew

  • +1

    Dodgy

  • +1

    How effin dodgy.

  • +1

    dodgy!

  • bad

    • bad

      I'm not sure you know what + means. ;)

    • +2

      revoke your plus vote then, don't support the dentist.

  • +4

    Any comment @cristtos? If it's your friend, you'd surely know the history?

  • After reading some comments, I'm inclined downvote even though I'm in WA…just not right

  • +1

    Made the mistake of visiting a Dentist I found on a Shop A Docket for a "check up* many years ago. They found that I "needed" a filling plus heaps of other work. I stupidly agreed to the filling. I was 21 at the time and never needed a filling up until then and haven't needed one since. Thankfully I didn't agree to the other "required work". This reeks of the same scam.

  • +1

    What are the odds that this business requests that ozb unpublish this deal?
