No thanks, I'm too young to die!

hmm … can I ask why?

      • -5

No, but I will give you a negative back jackass!

    • There is a strong element of truth to this.
But you are probably still more likely to die in a car accident on the way to the airport.

This is the airline who had one of their pilots acquitted for lack of evidence after he almost crashed one of their planes. Fly at your own risk.

  • Jesus, Garuda!!!!

    Captain, go around!!!!!! Ooops

  • +2

Normally i'd comment that for that price, you'd have to help to fly the plane… But with Garuda, that could actually be the case.

Nice find OP, won't vote though… flown Garuda before (one plane i sat in is now on the jungle floor in Borneo), never again. I would rather swim.

Edit: You can only call something a full service airline if it gets you to your destination :P

    • Ouch. Definitely holding off from voting then.

  • Curious to know what entertainment do they have? Do all the economy class seats have a mini TV with movies and stuff like on Emirates, Thai, Singapore? I give credit for being competitively priced but have concerns over the airlines safety record.

    • I have to admit i last flew with them 10 years ago… but back then, their entertainment was movies that were 15 years old on a big screen - no individual screens there.

  • Hey - can I buy one of these then fly to SIngapore or something for a week or two, then fly back to Bali to fly home?

  • Guys, i am not defending Garuda, but can we more objectives when we are judging something. Can anyone show us proper statistic, how many Garuda accident since they are in the service? and how many total flights they have so far?

if one airlines got accident then u judge all airlines on certain countries not safe. i don't think that is fair comparison isn't it?

I love flying with Singapore Airlines, I know Singapore Airlines got accident in Taipei many years ago, when the pilot take the wrong runway before take off. But can we say all airlines in Singapore not safe?

Just because one or two Australian died on that accident, then you judge all the airlines on that countries is not safe. I can not figure out in my mind, what is the correct words for this situation.

Remember Qantas airplane jumbo 747 flown from Singapore that has hole on the part of the body and divert to WA? Do you think this is because the skill of the pilot that handle this airplane? This is what you call luck mate. even u got the most skilled pilot in the world, but if you run out of your luck, i believe this airplane already on the ocean.

And you know what Qantas do with this airplane? The fixed it and send to the service again. until the second accident then they stop the service.

May be their bos realized that their pilot is not a cat that has 9 lives.

Again, if you are judging something please more objectives. Thank you.

      Some estimates here: http://www.airsafe.com/events/regions/asia.htm
first column is the one to compare.
Garuda is a probably a lot better than most domestic Asian airlines, and still a lot fafer than driving the same distance.
But Indonesian airlines and CA regulation generally have a poor safety/quality reputation compared to Australia, Singapore, Malaysia. Some say the CAA here is heading the same way. Qantas has been lucky.

dragonrabit, I thought you were going to tell the story of the Qantas crash in Bangkok, where the jet was written off, but they fixed it anyway, at massive expense, to keep their statistics looking better.

I posted my reasoning for withholding my vote on this. Garuda, IMHO is not a good airline. That is partially the companies fault, partly the indonesian government.
I don't fly ANYTHING that is based in indonesia. This includes lyon air and the indonesian part of air asia.

I just value life too much to fly it.

I have never flown Garuda, but I'm a frequent traveller and follow the industry.

Supposedly Garuda have fixed the problems they had a few years back. They have been under strict supervision by the European regulators. The regulators have been happy with the changes made to crew training and maintenace, and have allowed them to fly into Europe again, but are keeping the supervision in place (which is a good thing).

The Perth Denpasar service now uses brand new Boeing 737-800NG aircraft with in seat entertainment.

If I wanted to go to Bali I would now use Garuda, though this deal is now expired.

Since we are digressing from the real topic at hand, deal or no deal.

Having flown tons and quite frequently ill say this about Garuda.

They seriously used to suck and IMO dont have a safe record. But they have tried updating their equipment and procedures to improve things. On my last flight, company flight so had no say, Garuda was used and had no issues. The plane used was fairly new, the food was good, the service was good and had inflight entertainment. However only that flight had the new plane, other flights within Indonesia were old/older planes with no entertainment.

I would still avoid Garuda and deem them quite unsafe. 9 fatal events last being 2007 is too much and too soon before I would want to fly them.

I would rather fly other Asian airlines with minimal events and last one being a while ago.

Then again I avoid United, American, Delta and US Airways airlines even more. The US has absmissal safety record at best! As bad as China's IMO.

Qantas IMO has been extremely lucky! Yes Qantas pilots are highly skilled with 70% ex-airforce with atleast 13years of flight experience etc. But a pilot can all do sooooo much. The ground crew/maintenance/engineering are much more important and whats worrying is all the pay disputes and backhanded outsourcing thats going on. Lets not forget the string of "bad luck" qantas has had within the last few years that coincides with its increase in oursourcing work overseas etc. Qantas I would still fly as its still the safest but Im getting worried about its safety standards.

Moral of the story? I would much rather be safe. I only fly modern safe airlines with minimal events with a good reputation. Sometimes I may have to pay more but to me its worth it for a better chance of being alive.

    • hahaha. based on that website, 9 since 1970, i believe garuda was flown longer than 1970. so may be something else before hahahaha

    • Australian pilots are in great demand, check who flies for Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Qatar or even Singapore airlines. I don't know why, but hey, it's always good to have a flying kangaroo.

  • Garuda started in 1949.

Google has a timeline of crash reporting here:
    http://www.google.com.au/search?q=garuda+crash+history&hl=en…

    • this link show the statistic of the crash news. if u read, not all years that show on that report has garuda accident on that year.

  • Channel nine news just stated to avoid Bali over the new year due to new terror threats. And I would actually listen to this threat and get outta there, alot of people in Bali at the moment.
