    http://techcrunch.com/2010/04/28/review-harmankardon-hkts-20…

Reviews seem acceptable, but its getting a bit old now (reviews are circa 2010/2011).
That's 4-5 years of tech advancement this system doesnt have.
Still… pretty decent price! $400 doesnt buy you very much in surround sound gear. Ever. Harmon Kardon a crapload better than LG and like!!

    • +18

      true.

but Speakers really don't change all that often just the amps and codecs/formats do.

      • +4

        that is true.

amp features, hdmi inputs etc have changed quite a bit over last 5 years… but for a speaker pack you're right, speaker tech is what it is.

  • Decent price.

  • +2

Pickup in Auburn possible now? Roads aren't still blocked and full off of Ferrari's and whatnot from the wedding? lol

    • +9

lol he is actually a good customer of ours.

pick up from Auburn or Meadowbank

      • please put the pickup locations in the title

      • So he will probably broden all your stock for this deal!

  • -5

I think it's better to go with logitech z906, rather than getting this 5 year old system

    • +19

or something even cheaper and later than that is this one

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/VIVO-5-1-DVD-Home-Theatre-System-…

      • Lol. Cheers Rep

        • +6

          :)

Yeah, I cant imagine many people picking Logitech over Harman Kardon for surround sound gear.

Mind you, I've got a Logitech 5.1 setup on my PC that's been going great guns for about 10 years (Logitech Z-5500 - http://www.digitaltrends.com/pc-speaker-reviews/logitech-z-5…). Hasnt missed a beat, but would never think it would be capable of a proper lounge room setup.

          Different target markets.

        • @UFO: lol, I still have this Logitech setup which I bought many years ago for my lounge room TV. Works great for the price. I haven't really seen the need to replace it with a proper system that could be 3 times the cost. But that doesn't mean these deals aren't tempting!

        • @UFO:

Haha. That IS my lounge room setup. For what it is, it's great but I'd never rate it against… well anything else really.

But it's got bass for days and cost me $150 at auction about 6 years ago so I love it.

    • +2

You are absolutely right. The z906 have just been released 4 years and 12 months ago…

  • Can we add NSW only to this? Good deal but not for me being in Melbourne

    • Tried to edit with no luck

    • Just pay and send a courier to collect it. I am sure they would be fine with that

  • +2

Rep, you sure you cant arrange a postage deal with this?

OK for folks in Auburn, but what about the rest of Australia :).

    • +12

fixed … now $50 flat shipping Aus wide

Floyd Mayweather aint got nothing on this deal

      • Awesome

  • Would have jumped on this if you delivered to Melbourne. Pretty decent deal and reviews seem good.

  • +1

    hi folks

I am currently looking for 5.1 and had the accusound in mind to purchase and with this deal bit confused, the deal is cheaper than the one I was aiming for.
    how does this compare with
    https://www.audioaustralia.com.au/accusound-reference-8-6xd-…

    thanks

    • Accu what now?

Never heard of them, and never seen them in a well known HiFi retailer.
Good that you want to support Aussie businesses though. Best thing would be to go listen to them.
Different ears like different speaker setups.

      • Accusound has been around for ten years plus. I personally own a set which is almost that old and they suit me.

    • I think jb hifi has/does stock them? Or am I way out of the loop?

    • Accusound are decent, but nowhere sells them at that rrp. Bigger drivers means more sound but the HK set will be a lot clearer, which will provide for a better experience. I'd buy the Harmon set every time.

  • Accusound are in HN but not the exact model they had the wireless one, sound was pretty good…

  • Fanastic thanks! Been looking at these for years now, not many places where you can just buy the speakers. Discounted price seals the deal.

  • The Harman Kardon HKTS 20 is a film fan’s dream system.

I wouldnt go that far, they are ok, but a far cry from a SVS/Paradgim/Martin Logic/Yamaha bookshelf or freestanding speakers.

    Not a bad price though.

    • +3

I didn't realise SVS/Paradgim/Martin LOGAN/Yamaha bookshelf or freestanding speakers were available for $399

      • -2

You can get the Yamaha P80's for 350 or so (RRP 449) so yeah.

If you hunt area (Graysonline) you can pick up Paradgrims for a few hundred a set.

Speakers are like furniture, you get what you pay for, and a good quality set of speakers will last into the decades if looked after, even if the reciever dies or is outdated, you just replace that portion.

Anyone even remotely serious about their AV knows this.

Besides, by the time you spend 400 on these speakers and another 2-300 on an AV reciever, your close enough in price to get a YSP-2500, which by the market being targeted on here would suit them more.

        • +1

Yeah good idea I would stick with your Martin logic speakers if I were you

    • Martin Logan :) and please don't put Yamaha speakers in same category as Martin Logan & B&W, Yamaha do make very good receivers but speakers are not top of the line..
Also decent 5.1 >>>>>> decent soundbar

  • Hi rep, I'm not very good with audio products, but would these speakers work well with this?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/188860

    Thanks.

    • +2

never really dealt with Yamaha … but it should not be a problem.

      • Thanks, I'll try get approval from the wife :)

        • +6

I messaged her saying it is 60% off without saying how much it is. Got a yes :)

        • +2

@devank: lol!!! Lucky man, I'll see how i go.

        • +5

          @devank:

          Failed…She said '60% off what?' :(

        • +3

You need to ask the question when she is really busy…. learnt tactic from kids :)

    • +1

Ha… I bought that exact deal too. Now looking around for speakers… ideally Yamaha. Simply for visual reasons. I doubt my ears would know any difference :)

  • I like that the sub is sealed for tighter bass.

  • what room size would this set be used for ideally?

  • Hi Rep

Never owned a speaker system before.
Can I get the speakers wall mounted and are they wireless?

    • Yes.
      No.

  • these seems good too looking at the specs https://www.audioaustralia.com.au/speakers/home-theatre/red-…

  • I'm guessing they're not networked?
    Can't find this anywhere.

    • They are speakers, to run them you will still need a AV receiver capable of driving minimum 5.1ch. They do not have an amp or anything like that (except for the sub)

  • I am looking for a cheapish setup. I had the z906 but moved to an apartment so I gave it to my bro. I am moving to a house soon so want a decent sound setup. Should I buy this or the Z906(around $100 cheaper on a good day)? Anyone had a chance to compare the 2 in person? thanks.

    • +1

I have you should get this, esp at this price!

    • +1

You'll need an amplifier/AVR if you buy the harman kardon, you'll need to factor that in. The z906 has an amplifier built in.

      • Yeah just realised after doing some more research, so that kind of almost doubles the cost. Say $700 with a decent amp, still worth it in your opinion?

        • What's your use case for these? For Home Theater with a TV, I would go for a proper AVR + speakers such as these any day.

For a computer.. well it's a bit over kill, but would still sound better.

        • @jammy2006:

Would be for a living room setup. Any recommended receivers for this setup?

  • Can you just plug this into your bluray (PS4) player?
Or does it require a receiver?

    • You will require a receiver as this is just a speaker system. Good value speakers though.

  • Was looking into something like this before I decided I wanted to get something a bit more future proof. I bought a Sony soundbar that has 3 HDMI input including 1 that does HDCP 2.2. It also accepts up to 7.1 including DTS HD etc. It costed the equivelent of $550 only.

The only alternative I found was buying an Onkyo reciever for $1000 or so and then other speakers.

This is an interesting problem that I have asked audio stores about and they think I'm making this stuff up. All I know is the multitude of problems such as buzzing, fuzz etc are totally gone. I asked Bose and they said some of those features are possible with our $4299 surround system…

    • wats the model number of the soundbar you using?

    • You can also get the Yamaha YSP-2500, which is the Best BFYB bar under 1k (goes for around 800 bucks or so online) has all of the usual codec/processing so DTS/HD/HDMA etc, also has wireless so you can use the ios/andriod appp

  • Do the satellites come with any way of wall mounting them?

  • Was about to buy but the code expired. Oh well sigh

    • +1

please try again in 5 mins

      • Done, ordered. If you have a sale on the pair satellite, let us know so I can have a 7.1 setup :)

  • mmm.. about to pay with paypal but computer crash.. now code expires..
Rep, do you still have one available? can I complete my purchase?

    • +1

please try again in 5 mins

      • Just saw your reply but out of stock now.
It's a sign that i should not buy this :(

        • +1

          the ozb daily struggle

  • I was hoping this include the amp… :sigh

  • Rep,

    When does this deal ends?

I need time to convince my wife to part with my money!

How does this pair with my Denon AVR 1713?

    • You don't need a new Home Theatre system if you have to get your wife's approval to spend a measly $ 400.

What you need is a new pair of pants and wear it when you're at home :D

      • Well I've been trying to find a good set of speakers for the Denon amp that is still in a box at a particular price point.

Too bad its sold out! :(

  • Out of stock? :(

  • Nice deal Rep!

Don't happen to have any Floor Stock Elegance Screen Kanvas powered in the 110-120" size do you?

  • OoS?

  • Would this be an improvement over my Energy Take Classic 5.1?
For the pricepoint the energy speakers are fantastic, but I can always go for something better at the right price. :)

    • +2

Nope, you're energy system is probably better than this.

      • Thanks. :)

  • Out of stock now.

  • Rep can you do anything on 2.1 systems?

  • Out of Stock?

  • =( dammit….wanted one of these!

  • Chose the 'Auburn pick up'. Even after 4 days, my order is 'Processing'.
No one is answering the phone either (called at 11:50am Sat the 22nd of Aug 2015).

    • I called up and apparently stock is coming today…

      • and you are right. Picked it up today.

  • Speakers arrived. Sound good to me. Now we need a deal on floor stands….

    • Yes… it was easy to connect them all.

How do you test if they are working the way they are supposed to work??
