Stop tempting me. I'll get killed by the Mrs if I buy another one :(

    • how many do you have. why would you need more than one powerbank?

      • I have 6, but some were free and really cheap. Useful in my job where I'm required to be on the phone for long hours with several devices and no outlets to plug in. 2 is enough for me.

    • This or another Mrs?, lol

      • Depends who you ask ;)

    • Bwahaha - The 20,000 model is ~ A$29 for another 29 minutes. - Will there be ham at the funeral?
[Would have posted the deal, but with the little time remaining and only 7 left… :-/]

  • Xiaomi or Romoss??

    • Reviews for Romoss on amazon seem pretty good

I don't think I've ever bought something from GearBest and had it actually ship without opening a support ticket.

They have a habit of not showing if an item is in stock or not. When they do have it in stock, you'll need to remind them that you've placed an order before they process it.

Which is ridiculous. Banggood have been ultra fast in comparison.

Why aren't phones coming with hot swappable batteries? That means, instant re-charging which is much better than keeping the phone connected to a charger while on the move.

    • Doing so while providing a buffer to keep the phone on so you didn't need to reboot would shave away at profit margins and add quite a layer of sensing/software response in the power monitoring routines.
A phone is a bit more than a digital clock, which is why I, and I suspect you, have never seen "battery hot-swapping' offered…

      • The phone can have two batteries, one small and one standard. The small battery is permanent and holds the charge when the main battery is removed and gets re-charged when the main battery is connected.

Otherwise, instead of one large battery (eg 2600 mah), the phone can have two half sized batteries, say 1300mah each, which are to be replaced one at a time to keep the phone running (ie hot swapping)

It can add to costs, but phones are getting many new features that add to costs.

        • So people don't buy fake batteries and have their phone blow up in their pants

        • It can, but that is not, as your proposal would suggest, a trivial task. There are voltage and current changes as batteries are swapped in and out, core utilities monitoring current and voltage and modifying their configuration and behaviour based on the same, and even the effect of the circuit path and its corresponding changing field on the almost quantum behaviour scale of some of the components of what is a quite intricate and powerful computing device.
Even in the days of the 44KHz 8088 processors, the changes of direction of what, in comparison, were the hefty bars of copper over the huge vista that was the motherboard were never right angle, as the RF that could be generated could, and occasionally did interfere with data flow. Things are a lot tighter now.
You have a fair and good proposal. It is possible that the manufacturers haven't considered this, and have just been waiting for your suggestion, but my point is that it isn't just a matter of making a little gap for a mercury cell and linking the terminals to the main power bus.
You're spot on that it would be a good idea - but the manufacturers probably consider swapping a battery out and putting it on the charger you have carried with you, or have where you are as a back-up, isn't particularly any easier that plugging on a small pack that can fit in your shirt pocket and carry enough charge to recharge four times. It is, if you consider it:
          1. Remove back.
          2. Remove battery.
          3. Take battery to charger.
          4. Plug in charger.
          5. wait for battery to charge
          [reverse steps.]
          Ten steps
          1. Take battery pack out of pocket.
          2. Plug to phone
          3. Search for rubber band
          4. Wrap band around phone and charger to maintain portability
          5. remove band
          6. Unplug battery pack.
Four less steps throwing in a few to increase the utility of the method and give the first method a fair chance.
Then again, it would look uncool.
Having the phone maintain its state while you swapped any battery out would be the biggest plus of your method. A Hard re-set could still be obtained by pressing the power button after removal - something I do anyway when needing one. I believe the fact that none of the major manufacturers have done this is an indication that it is non-trivial

Majority of the phones for Chinese brands like Elephone, iOcean, XiaoMi have removable batteries. Companies like Samsung, HTC would rather you upgrade to their next flagship each year, so when the battery deteriorates you have to upgrade… maybe?

      • It could be - tho my Samsung nexus batteries [removable] are just now getting to the1-/12 day on standby stage whereas my Xperia Z [not as easy] is still powering along well - then again, I can maybe thank Sony's inability to satisfy Vodafone that their lollypop is fit for purpose for that :-/

  • Steer clear of these guys. Two products ordered, two tickets opened. One of the items after 3+ weeks still not shipped and they just told me yesterday its not in stock anymore.

    • It took a month but I got it.

      • Yep, got mine yesterday, and another 2 items ordered in the same batch the day before. One item [ dumb smart-watch] is still not aknowledged as sent :-/ Still, plenty of time to un-paypal..
It came with 80% charge and is a good hefty unit, but I note the specs only rate 300 charge-discharge cycles. Still, that would be a years use for a fairly low price. I'll test it out over the weekend.
