No movie channels, just all their channels that are full of ads!

    I'll stick with Netflix :)

    Where is the bargain please?

    • +6

Free installation and no equipment fee. Usually $150.

I just had a quick look at all their plans/deals on that link the OP provided. TV Combos and Broadband Bundles. They all say that they include "applicable equipment, installation, activation and connection fees."

        • +1

Because this promotion is running! They charge $75 for installation but even if you have an existing installation you would need to pay $25 for self install

          https://www.foxtel.com.au/content/dam/foxtel/support/pdf/res…

        • +1

That's because the deal is for every option just not the basic entertainment pack. After the 31st August you will have to pay for install and equipment again.

  • -1

Could get Stan, Presto and the ever growing Netflix for the same price as this rubbish.

Edit - this is the standard price as listed on their website. No discount, nil additional benefit whatsoever. Doesn't appear to be for a limited time only either. No bargain.

    • +2

      Yes agree with you.
But a lot of people don't have fast enough broadband to stream these services.
So this is a good opportunity to see if Foxtel suits them, since its only going to cost them a maximum $25 if they cancel before their first month ends

So, why not a free trial to see if it suits? Rather like Presto, Stan, Netflix, etc.

Rather than neg my comment, why don't you answer my question? "Where is the bargain please?"

The cost is as normal - $25. There is just no long term contract. Is the lack of a long term commitment a bargain?

        • +3

Yes no lock in contract is a deal.

Are you saying if you had an option between two services (say internet or mobile) and one had a 12 month contract and the other had no lock in contract. You would not prefer the one with no lock in contract?

        • +3

Why no free trials? Well, Presto, Stan, Netflix, etc have zero setup costs per subscriber so they don't need to try and lock you into a fixed term to recoup costs & won't lose much with offering a free month. Foxtel pay contractors hundreds of dollars for each install and also provide a set top box. It usually takes between 6-12 months to break even on each new customer.

Now, why is this deal a bargain? Well, it's usually $150 install (with basic set top box) + a 6 month contract, that's why …

    • +4

$10+$14.99+$8.99 does not equal $25. Plus you need an internet connection and some sort of equipment to watch it on. Not everyone has this aleardy, think of elderly.

  • +15

Sounds like a very desperate attempt from foxtel to get some clients.

  • +17

Foxtel will have to offer sports in this same package at the same price point to make it a deal

  • -1

Desperate but fall in my eyes.

    • +2

      Damn you tiny phone keyboard

  • +15

If Foxtel just released a $25 a month sports package, as a standalone package, they'd be having so many people handing over their money that Foxtel would be rolling in it. Hell, even I'd sign up and I have an absolute hatred of Foxtel (as well as News Corp, but that's a different story). But for $25 a month for a sports package, I'd be all over it.

It will never happen, but it's nice to dream.

    • +2

Totally agree with you. I hate NewsCorp too but if they did offer Even just Premiere League Football on it's own I would sign up. Never mind all the dross 'entertainment' channels filled with ads.

  • +1

I'm just neggin' cos Foxtel isn't even worth $25 plus I thought that was normal price now?

    • +4

So much hatred for foxtel! :P

      • +4

The sooner they burn a fiery death the better!

      • You've never heard of Rupert Murdoch?

  • +1

I say it's a good deal if you want to get a cable connection to your house in preparation for HFC nbn before every-one else.

    • +1

What do you mean? Any more info on what your are talking about here?

      • +1

NBN is being rolled out using a number of technologies (dependant on your location). If 'your area' has access to HFC (Telstra cable, Foxtel, Optus cable) then NBN will be provided to you, via your existing connection. Setup and installation with Foxtel should expedite the NBN installation process when it is available.

        • Any news on a timeline? I know foxtel was previously connected at my current place

        • +1

          @brentsbits:

If you previously had Foxtel, then this offer wouldn't be of any benefit. I don't follow the NBN very closely, but last I read was they were still trailing the installation and cabling of new premises. Retail offering of NBN via HFC was mentioned to be in 2016.

        • @trevorf:

Didn't have it ourselves at this place, previous tenants did

        • @trevorf: Rollout is meant to commence in July 2016 with an upgrade to DOCSIS 3.1 (allows 10Gbps down 1Gbps up) in 2017.
Take this chance for $25 or be on the end of a very long queue of Dad's Army installers.

        • @valvster:

If the place had foxtel previously, I wouldn't need to worry about it would I?

        • @brentsbits:

Basically, if you residence has a HFC cable port existing inside, then there's probably nothing more than can be done at this point. So for you, I'd say no, no need to worry about this offer.

Installation of $25, with the hopes of getting off this slow ADSL sooner … I can live with that.

  • The only thing I would like from this package is the SkyNews Business channel. Not worth $25 though.

Everything else I can get one way or another.

  • Foxtel is Crap!

  • +1

Good deal if you're technologically inhibited, otherwise it's pretty ordinary. Have to agree with the elderly comment, my nan loved all the entertainment channels

  • Have foxtel, never watched a single channel from the basic package

  • I have foxtel and honestly haven't watched it for months. Would be a waste of money if we weren't getting it for next to nothing…

  • Are we saying, if I wanted to try Foxtel (via satellite and their hardware - not streaming using my Internet connection), I would only have one month for no contract or could I try 2 or 3 months (for $50 or $75) to see if I really want it?

Our house already has the dish but by the previous owner ( I have never had Foxtel).

    • Yeah $25 a month ongoing, minimum is one month.

I'm Happy to give it another go at this price. I have netflix / hulu but still like to watch foxtel sometimes.

They are couriering me the box so I don't have to bother with an appointment.

  • Just got my self install kit. I remembered they where giving out powerline adapters a while ago so I asked for them and they included 2 x netcomm np511 for free, make sure you ask for them.

  • What type of set top box is supplied??

    • The very base non hd 60gb.
