i've never seen that before on a laptop.. hmmm

    • +3

      i7 on that one though.

      • +7

was about to edit the comment. Now i cant lol

        • Not the 1080 screen either, not seen the 1080 screen on any variations here.

        • +1

          @Pobman:
I doubt it's IPS though . Not saying it isn't as they do make an IPS panel for the z50 but from what I can find they mostly are not .

        • +5

          @troyww:

No its not IPS… but it is $480 delivered :)

      • Much lousier display (1366x768) and also has a low end GT820m GPU.

  • +3

correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you specify the type of keyboard being used in windows and not have the different symbols? The symbols will be printed on the keys physically but I think you can still used them as AUS,UK or US Keyboard if you specify it in the OS.

    • +10

You can but the French use AZERTY rather than QWERTY so might get confusing. You could get stickers or order a replacement keyboard from eBay for about $24 delivered.

        Wow, learn something new everyday

      • +2

could likely also use a butterknife and some moxy and pop off the keys and swap them

        • +1

i'd check to see if this is possible first before buying another keyboard… even if this doesn't work I wouldn't bother actually… I don't stare at my keyboard when I type so its not very useful

        • +2

          @nerd1:
Just physically switching the keys won't help much.

It's not the letters that's the problem, it's the symbols you don't use in everyday typing that get hard to find.

          http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Wya1RHkTNcM/TAGaXizccPI/AAAAAAAAAQ…

        • @KentT:

That's alright, it's just be a case of updating that. I'm guessing if someone's comfortable with changing a keyboard, they'll be able to hard change the keys.

          But definitely a valid point.

    • I just checked the link carefully. its picture show that the keyboard layout is normal QWERTY. here is a direct link for picture: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/71PelUBZKhL.SL1500.jpg

      • +4

The picture does show QWERTY, but the spec states its AZERTY and people who bought it in an earlier deal for a few Euro more confirmed it is too.

They finally put 1080p screens on cheaper models, great!

  • +1

Anyone know if Lenovo gives international warranty?

    • +1

      Possibly to some degree:

      https://support.lenovo.com/au/en/documents/ht074528

However if you go through support resources for this laptop you get a list of contact numbers for various countries but Australia is not in that list. In particular this configuration does not seem to be available here.

So quite possibly you will need to deal with Amazon, though from personal experience that has always been pretty smooth.

    Screen - 1920x1080, HD 1TB RAM 8 GB

Initially read that as 1TB of ram!

    • +2

Chrome would have a hard on

  • i only see 1x hdmi port from amazon pics…

  • Can you put an SSD in there?
Skylake just came out. I am waiting for the influx of Skylake laptop next month.

    • +1

Yes and previous buyers stated there is no 'warranty void' sticker to break when replacing the HD.

    • No way Skylake will be in next month that quickly. We're in Australia, so at least 3 months behind the world. Also - mobile processors hasn't been released yet. Probably 2 months away if you want to grey import a refreshed Broadwell laptop

      • I have family friends in industry who ship it to me with their big discounts. Been doing it since I was in high school. I got my first HP desktop direct from America. I am limited to HP, IBM and Microsoft, but I can't complain.

The IBM stuff usually comes with 110V stuff, so I have to use a transformer, but I rarely need any of their technology.

Skylake laptops are definitely coming next month for corporate customers. I don't know when it will be available for everyday consumers.

I've tried applying the code a couple of times, but keep getting:

    "Nous sommes désolés !
Une erreur de système interne a été décelée. Nos équipes techniques se chargent de la résoudre. Nous vous prions de nous excuser pour la gêne causée."

Up to the point of applying the code it all appears to be working fine.

Hmm, maybe I shan't buy a laptop I don't really need this evening (cries quietly into pint).

    • There was an internal error like that for a short while last night, but that one was fixed within 10 mins.

  • Damn shame that it's only an i3…

    2 hdmi ports? Why?

    • To do THIS.

      • Interesting… But running an i3, will the experience be good enough…

        • +2

You think an i3 doesn't have the grunt to handle three monitors?

        • @macrocephalic:

… What do you think, smart guy?

I'm just saying that the user experience may not be optimal when you've 3 screens running with an i3.

Also I can't think of any reasons why my granny would want 3 screens.

        • @inose: If you think a haswell i3 won't give a decent user experience just because it has three screens attached then you seriously underestimate the performance of modern processors. That low power i3 benchmarks about the same as Core2Quad CPU's that were in workstation desktops a few years ago.

        • +1

          @macrocephalic:

After some research, it's even better than core 2quad… TIL. Cheers

  • -4

    Why so many + votes?
    I3 really?
Use as desktop… Just USB keyboard/monitor?

    • +1

Are you volunteering to find us a 1080p laptop with i3 for less than $500?

Or a survey indicating that more than 10% of Australian laptop users would actually benefit much from an i5/i7 CPU?

  • Wish I could understand French to order this thing.

BTW, does the Windows on this machine is in English or French. My guess is French :(

    • You can put the page through Google translate.
On the machine itself, once you've figured out "Australie" in the location settings, the rest should fall into place.

      • Thanks.

    • Best thing is probably to jump straight to Windows 10 and do a clean install, that will dump off any Lenovo bloatware they might have installed….

You can change the language in Windows quite easily these days, YouTube has video guides … had to use them when changing a tablet from Chinese to English.

  • Nice laptop at that price.

  • +1

Just purchased, estimated delivery date 28 August - 6 September.

    • Where do you put the discount code? I couldn't find it.

      • +1

It's on the payment page, quite near the end of the process.

    • Just bought mine, estimated delivery date 28 August - 8 September.

    • Same estimated delivery date for me too. I wonder how many of these get sold.

PS the RENTREE12 code pretty much makes is free delivery as delivery costs over 30 euro to AU. Also not the easiest ordering process as its in French or computer translated English. Took me a while to work out where to enter the code and complete the order.

    • Yes date is slipping slowly… ready to ship at the start … about a weeks delay when I posted … obviously been quite popular :)

  • How to take advantage of this offer? :
    1. Add to cart the PC of your choice among the eligible references below between 05/08/2015 and 08/16/2015 inclusive.
    2. On the payment page, enter the promo code RENTREE12 and the 12% reduction will apply immediately.

  • How do you turn on and off if using as a desktop….can you leave the screen closed 24/7 and setup external keyboard start up?
Do you have to press the lappie power button to turn on if in desktop configuration?

    • Yes. If it is from cold boot. Unless you use a docking station with it that also has a power switch.

  • Is this Intel HD 4000 or 4400?

  • +1

Sudden thought after purchasing. I will need a transformer…

    • +3

Maybe a plug adapter. Voltage should be compatible to Aus.

    • +2

Many if not most laptops are free voltage, it should be fine.

    • +2

So you're saying that this deal may be more than meets the eye?

    • switch mode power supply should works from 100V to 250V. So you will be fine.

Maybe just need to replace the AC plug power lead.

    • To start with France is the same as here … and anyway laptops are almost always multi voltage. So a plug adapter is all you need, or swap out the cable.

      • ok sweet so i can use my old charger to charge it?

        • No you can, possibly, use your old cable that plugs in to your old charger … but likely the old charger will be different, unless its from the same range of laptops.

Either way this part will not be an issue… the French keyboard will be more annoying. However thats easy enough to sort as already mentioned.

        • @Pobman: yeah exactly, nothing a $3 adapter cant fix!

  • -1

when ordering this online and shipping to AU, does it have GST for tax return?

    • +1

when ordering this online and shipping to AU, does it have GST for tax return?

What does GST have to do with your income tax return? Nothing so you depreciate this the same as you would for an Australian purchased one of the same dollars.

If you are asking about a BAS you should stop running a business if you don't understand that a GST free purchase is entered in the area for GST free purchases.

    • +2

No, it does not. Because you did not pay any GST on it to begin with. You can, however, claim it on your tax return if you use it for work purposes.

  • 2x HDMI ports but only 1x USB 3.0 port? :(

    • Unlikely to be 2x hdmi, likely to be 1x hdmi and 1x usb2, 1x usb3

    • Looking closer at the images. It's definitely not 2 x HDMI. I can see the following ports

      1 x HDMI
      2 x USB 2.0 (1 on either case side)
      1 x USB 3.0
      1 x ETHERNET
      1 x VGA
1 x Kingston type lock port
      1 x SD card adapter

Not sure what the other port near the fan outlet is. I've been out of the market for too long.

  • Went through the checkout and although EUR323 converts to AUD480 via straight conversion from xe.com, I am getting charged AUD499 when I choose to pay Amazon in AUD. Should I pay in EUR and let my CC company do the conversion? Or there won't be much in it between the 2 methods? I don't have 28 degrees unfortunately.

    • Well you never get the XE.com rates, as they are mid-market … no idea what your bank will charge you… even if you have it changed to AUD at Amazon many of the big banks will charge you a foreign transaction fee just for the fact it was processed overseas, despite being in AUD…

  • +1

Expired? The link redirects to the Lenovo Z51-70 which is currently EUR 815,95.

    • Seems so. You can keep an eye on it though as this is the second time they have reduced this model, last time was a few weeks back, though it was $50 or so more that time…. still cheap compared to here though.

  • would be much appreciate if you could find us some 14" or lower @ similar pricing? :-)

    • Why choose 14" over 15.6"?

      • +1

14" will have a smaller mass and physical footprint, probably.

  • +1

Just a heads up, saw a few back in stock, for a bit higher. Purchased one for around AUD$580

  • +2

My laptop just got delivered. Definitely only 1 HDMI port. Still setting up but the whole bootup process is in French. Keyboard is also AZERTY so symbols are fun to enter :)

Edit: Took me awhile to figure out how to change to English. Would have helped heaps if I actually had an 8.1 Eng UI next to it. Keyboard will drive me nuts I reckon, the / , ? and \ keys will be a joy to use NOT.

    • Grab that replacement keyboard from eBay or go for the stickers… somebody suggested moving the keys, but not sure how that would work out.

Definitely AZERTY is not for me!

Anybody else who has issues with the language there are a few videos on YouTube that cover it, used those when moving from Chinese to English on a tablet.

    • Can you confirm the power pack is 100V to 250V and you just need a plug adapter?

      • Confirmed. I using mine with a simple travel adapter at the moment.
