Not so, it only happened for the $1 1GB data SIM offer. They should have allowed 7 days or something like that for activation if they had been thinking of preventing people hoarding those SIMs.

Even if its activated, talk to online chat CSR and they will happily change activation date for you.
my 5GB was pre-activated. Used live-chat to have that resolved.
Might only be pre-activated if it is a new number, as opposed to porting.
if they activate it before receiving you can ask them (via online chat) to pay your credit back on pro rata basis, i have got $10 back for 4 days on 7gb unlimited

Churn elsewhere then. Some people don't care about having a permanent number. Some people have dual SIM phones and can use the unlimited to make lots of outgoing calls.
Useful when you have already decided that you want to join them in first place.

Has anyone had any experience with cancelling an amaysim plan? They seem to have an odd method where you are meant to email them. And there are no details on how quickly it will be cancelled.

- Your date of birth
I am guessing you are porting out to another provider. If you do that, it will be cancelled automatically.
I'm not porting. I just wanted to have 5GB of internet for one month and then immediately cancel the plan after. But I don't want to accidentally pay for a second month if they take their sweet time to cancel the plan.
Just change the plan to payg.. It will switch to PAYG at the end of the current month. Just remember to stop using it at the end of the month.
How do u avoid being charged for any extra data above 5gb? Is there a way to see how much data you have left?
