8-Outlet Connexia Surge Protected Powerboard 2x USB $18.98 (With App) Delivered @ CatchOfTheDay

822
REWARD1

Seems cheap to me especially when it has Aus Electrical Approval Cert Compliant for a surgeboard with 2xUSB with individual switch unit, which I like!

Thanks to Eastern Culture post with the Coupon code, use coupon with Android and IOS APP to checkout you get $15 discount instead of $10 Discount, as per previous posts by others which most of you would have worked it out by now.

Note REWARD1 Coupon seems to be available to Any Existing Account use but it would seem to me REWARD2 is Targeted offer and can be stacked for extra $5 discount if you receive email from COTD if I am not mistaken; please correct and advice otherwise MODS, thank you in advance.
Cheers!

Thought I'd also share this for those of you that had used the App on your phone and Tablet getting only $10 instead of $15, maybe go to Settings, then Application Manager on your phone/table and choose Clear Cache, to be safe I uninstall and reinstall app and log-in an old Catch Acc and ….Kaboom I have another $15 discount!

You'll need to cover the LEDs with electrical tape if you sleep in the same room as one of these :P but otherwise they're good

    • haha beat me to it!

    • 100%, such a stupid idea to have the lights. I had to take it out of the bedroom

      • the idea is alright, but at least diffuse the light from them or something..

        • Are they yellow? That's actually good mood/sleeping light vs blue LEDs.

Eh, no lifetime warranty. No deal if these take a surge. Response Time also not stated.

        • @Lukian: the ones on the sockets are orange, they don't bother me too much, but there's a bright blue one for the usb ports and a green one and a red one.

    • +1

Cool! A powerboard AND a nightlight!!

    • Perhaps just move the powerboard outside of your eyeline? Unless you actually sleep on the floor, I dont see the problem

      • +3

No dice, it lights up the room like a disco

  • +6

Just a note, if you are planning on having this in a bedroom or similar, those orange lights for the switches and the blue light for the USB ports are quite bright in a dark room, other than that I have had no issues with my board, just thought it was worth mentioning.

    • Thanks for the confirmation it is a good unit, really good value that I bought 2! Sorry just beat you to it :)

  • +1

What's the Joule rating for this?

    • +3

Specs lifted from an eBay ad for the same product:
      Power Rating: 240V AC~50Hz
      Current: 10A Max.
      Power Capacity: 2400W Max.
      Surge Current: 18,000 Amps
Surge Protection: 175J per Metal Oxide variation
      Total Energy Absorption: 525 Joules
      Clamping Spike Voltage: 775V
      Maximum Surge Current: 18,000 Amps
      Single Shot: 18,000 Amps
      Two shots: 9,000 Amps
      Response Time: <2 ns
Full EMI & RFI protection: 150KHz~100MHz
Protection Mode: Active - Neutral - Earth

      • +1

        Total Energy Absorption: 525 Joules

That's not a lot of energy absorption… Last time I bought an 8 Outlet Board for $12 with 2750 Joules.

        • +2

probably that's a BS claim, for that price. there are many ways to skin the cat like music equipment manufacturers claiming outrageous power figures for steros and whatnot.

basically in this arena you get what you pay for, as the engineering and quality for decent surge protection packages do cost money to make.

id rather spend the 100 bucks you need to spend on decent surge protection board on having my earth spike and mains board surge protection upgraded, prevent any power surge getting into your home at all. decent protection at mains side can handle tens of thousands of joule (equivalent) input and protects your entire home.

edit: obviously not advice for everyone in the market for a 20 dollar surge board. general discussion for interest only.

        • @richox:

Don't think it was BS. It was that Landmark Computers deal. RRP was 30. Can't link cause on my phone.

  • too bad already used up reward1 and reward2.

    • +5

I wonder what the third one will be

      • should use reward2 for this instead of jolly gorillapods.. lol

      • REWARD3 = $20 off a $60 spend. Any ideas what else is worthwhile?

  • +2

Coupon only $10 for me in app? Anyone else?

  • -5

Just wondering if there are any lights/leds on these things?

    • +22

none. you should mount it on the head of your bed

    • +1

      Love the pointless comment. Lol

    • +1

How many lumens is the light?

I want to compare it to my cree torches

      • +3

I hear they use these to light up the MCG

  • why is my discount only showing $10??im using the COTD app, any help here?

    • Cant seem to edit my post….but I thought I'd also share this for those of you that had used the App on your phone and Tablet getting only $10 instead of $15, maybe go to Settings, then Application Manager on your phone/table and choose Clear Cache, to be safe I uninstall and reinstall app and log-in an old Catch Acc and ….Kaboom I have another $15 discount!

      • sorry but still no good =( tried everything but still says 10bucks =(

    • I actually want this instead.

4 USB outlets, but only 4 AC outlets.

      No AUS Electrical Safety Certification.

      More expensive.

      Out Of Stock anyway.

      • +1

True… but I'm almost more comfortable with the Orico brand vs Connexia

        • -1

Orico is a well known brand and has good ratings on Amazon.Never heard of Connexia!! All i want is a powerboard with many usb sockets and not surge protected as such.

  • +1

I have had one of these for quite some time.

    It is very good/useful.

I have it under a desk, so no problem with the Orange Lights.

  • Thanks OP, i got one for $13.97 with ipad app and REWARD2 code

Ive spent $29 on cotd the past few days and am getting 6x8gb usb sticks, 2xhdmi cables, 2xjoby torches, and now a powerboard.

    • No worries, thanks for the Reward2 reminder but is it not a targeted offer as I did not get one personally, but listed it in case might work for someone else or maybe others care to comment on the REWARD2 being targeted or not??

    • Who negs a comment outlining how to get bargains?

  • +1

    I got one with iOS App, REWARD1 gave $15 discount , REWARD2 just $5

    • mmm…seems the codes do stack as I tried on my Android device and it did not want to accept REWARD2?

      • +1

Just tried on the Android app, and sadly no. Reward1 gave me the $15 discount too.

        • Seems like REWARD2 only applies if you get the targeted email, which I did not get personally so it did not work but REWARD1 is definitely working for everyone for $15, but you need to clear your COTD App Cache first!

        • +3

          @shopaholic32:

I have access to 2 COTD accounts, you needed to use reward1 before a certain date to be eligible for reward2.

It did not matter whether you received the email or not. I received the email in account1 and not account2 - but after satisfying the criteria to get reward2 - both of my accounts could use it (reward2).

In response to your APP theory, several people on here would not agree including myself. If you have previously used the app to actually make a purchase (through to delivery) not just add things to cart and check it works, then that account no longer has access to the $5 - as it's a once per account offer when using "an app". There was allegedly one exception to this Johnno87 on EC's post.

I have tested this with several accounts and 3 different devices (inc clearing cache, uninstalls, clear data etc), Android and iOS and my account which had previously made a purchase through an APP never gets the $5. Other accounts, new or old, that haven't purchased via an app, the $5 is available.

  • +4

Worried about how bright the surge protector is, will it be like this?:

    http://www.rantlifestyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Sein…

    • The yellow LEDs are blinding.

  • Thanks OP got 1 for $18.98

  • i didn't receive any target email, but just tried, both my account get -$15 after reward2 code applied, didn't even need to use phone app, just normal browser

  • +3

I bought two a while back, and literally none of the usb ports worked. Maybe it was just a bad batch, I got them a year or two ago, but just sharing my experience.

I still use them anyway because I like the individual switches. One is in the bedroom under the bed, the light is enough for me to make out the corners of the room, but thankfully not much more than that.

    • Be like mood lighting, ay.

    • +3

same experience - USB ports didn't work, but they gave me a refund and I didn't need to send it back :)

      • Your the lucky 1

      • COTD told me to send them back when I complained and I gave up. Glad you had a better experience!

    • Mine didn't work at first, then they did. Maybe I was doing something wrong when I first got it haha.

      • +1

Mine have never worked either - It seems there is a QA problem.
Interesting that yours ended up working, I'll have to check if they work now.
For anyone on the fence about these boards I would probably suggest looking elsewhere. The build quality is very… meh

        • Just remembered I was going to double check my ports. They can both charge my ipad 4 and my old iPhone 4s no worries, but when I plug in my galaxy note 3 nothing. So, uh, 50/50 on whether the ports work?

    • +2

Mine stopped working and the surge protection is next to useless. While the switches area nice feature, I think this code just brings the board down to its true value, rather than bargain territory.

  • also the codes are not 100% accurate regarding using the app to $15 off. I used my android phone last night to buy something and I only got $10 off using reward1 not $15 as stated,

    • I tried it earlier for 3 separate Account purchase and all got $15 discount on Android, but maybe COTD got OZB and chnaged it now not sure; but I suspect it could be because you had previously downloaded the App and did not clear the APP Cache as I mentioned in the post before buying, hence you did not get the extra $5 for "NEW" App Download, hence $10 instead of $15 discount.

  • reward1 or 2 seems not to be working. Anyone happen to know why? (Using the iOS app)

    • If code is no longer working then Mod please end it as I Cannot check and have to go out now. Cheers!

    • This still appears to be working on the Android app.

  • REWARD1 still works on Android App.

  • i am getting only $10 discount instead of $15

    • +1

Need to go through Android app to get $15 off

  • +2

Don't think I'd ever use one of these again..
Had one similar and had the switch literally explode when I switched an outlet on. The piece inside the switch (possibly a fuse?) was what popped, still no clue why. Scared the hell out of me, my finger was right on the switch still as it happened.. Left a little mark.

These look slightly higher quality, though as they're the exact same individual on/off switches it's a miss from me.

  • Ordered one. worked fine on android app

  • There's a lot of remarks about how "good" this power board is … like why? What makes it better than another powerboard?

    • +2

      In general, it's not better.

Most folks here are low end buyers and have bought really really poor quality (literally dangerous) powerboards… So when a mediocre board comes a long, it appeals to them.

Let's just say there is a reason why COTD is selling them, and not the usual outlets. (They have defects and need to be liquidated)

  • Thanks Op. Good find.

  • +2

For those who don't have an account registered before July 17 and therefore cannot use REWARD1, fire up a live chat in the bottom right and play dumb. When they say the code won't work on newly created accounts, say you received an email anyway. The rep will try to say "sorry for the inconvenience" but if you haggle them down as if to say the email you "received" caused some measure of inconvenience, they will move to $5 store credit. Haggle a little further and they'll give you $10 as a "one time courtesy" to get rid of you.

  • Just FYI, the reward2 code is $15 off regardless u using phone app or not, tried on my 2 accounts and it gives $15 off even using the Internet browser

    • Did you use REWARD1 before? I tried on all my account, REWARD2 not working but REWARD1 did.

      • +1

Yes I used the reward1 few days ago, reward1 u need to use app to get extra $5 off but reward2 seems like just straight $15 off regardless, in my case

  • Coupon had expired. However if you missed out, product is still being sold at $23.99 if you search on their website.
A few weeks ago, when I looked at buying. It was selling for $29.99. May still be be OK for those looking at the combine shipping purchase as difficult to find surgeboard with individual switches at even $23.99 IMHO.

  • Git mine today, Looks good. Also checked that both USB slots are working.

  • Got mine today. Both usb's work but the 2.1A output one also charges at 850mah. Checked with charger doctor and tikbro big guage cables

  • USB now stopped working today

    • same!!! Was working fine until today!

      • They gave me store credit…

        • I got a refund…don't even have to send the powerboard back.
