Read 512 MB RAM and I could not read further. Even at $75 it is not worth.

    • +1

Agreed - 512MB of RAM makes it pretty much un - usable.

yep, my huawei y550 is the king of cheap phones.

      • +1

Pretty much unbeatable at its price range (battery life too)

        • +1

except its not dual sim which is the only problem I have with it. y500 are great

      • No bargains on huawei y550`s anymore…

  • +2

If I was in the market for a new budget smartphone (say, sub $100) I'd just grab one of these for roughly $20 more. (US$69.99) http://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_176729.html

  • MTK6582M

Older mediatek chipsets have really bad GPS performance, don't buy this if GPS lock on and accuracy is a feature you're after.

  • Is the lack of 3G 850MHz an impediment in a phone these days? I need access to the Telstra and the Optus network. Now I know that 2100MHz 3G is both Telstra and Optus but do you lose anything by not having 850MHz? Rural reception? Anything?

    • +1

Telstra use 850MHz everywhere and it is the key to outer-suburban and rural 3G reception.
The lower the frequency, the further the signal travels, bounces, and penetrates buildings.

Vodafone rolled out 850MHz 3G (bandwidth now 'shared' for 4G use) fairly widely as their cheapest blackhole-filling option in the wake of 'Vodafail'.

Vodafone, like Optus, also use the 900MHz frequency band for 3G.
Optus don't use 850MHz at all.

On 4G - and ultimately, generally, 700MHz Band 28 will be the key to wider mobile-data access in regional and rural. Telstra and Optus are, apace, rolling out huge areas of coverage. Check maps on their websites if you're keen.

Vodafone didn't bid for any 700MHz spectrum for LTE/4G and are relying on the split-use of their 850MHz bandwidth for distance coverage.

Shaybisc, as far as 'Rural reception?' and 'Anything?', and other bits as relates, that pretty much covers it.

    • yes, I don't mind the ram size as I am not smart with any smart phone, but lack of 3G 850MHz stops me looking at this phone further.

  • Never buying another Lenovo phone. I got the K900 which was a flagship at the time with 4.2, and they promised an update to Kitkat but it never got a single update in its lifetime. I waited. Checked every month for an update for over a year and no update was ever released.

    The software was otherwise alright.
