    Looks like a great price. Dell refurbs in my experience are indistinguishable from brand new.

    How much do they normally sell this refurb for ?

      I can't take you seriously without the bold

        There, fix it for you.

        • Thanks it just didn't sound right without a bold statement!!!!

      $8.50, sorry I forgot to put estimated savings in title

      Dell's usual price is not to be trusted. I found the US site has a sale on this exact model for US$761. The closest I could get to the Australian price was AU$2,036.10. But there's a sale so $697 cash off so actually $1339.10 with the current sale. But that doesn't include around AUD$90 for the upgrade to SSD, which is not available on Dell AU. Can I say that $2126.10 - $575 = AUD$1550 discount for this refurb?

      Apparently some people are paying the Dell Australia tax. Often it's double the US price and it would often be cheaper to fly RT to the US plus buy the laptop. That page has dozens of different models. Every different configuration has a different price. I'd suggest anyone who was keen to get one of these should definitely check through the website to find the new price on that particular configuration and verify that the savings is quite substantial.

      Currently I see 12 in stock of that exact model that's $575. I dialed it into the Dell configurator

        AUD$1550 discount for this refurb?

        No, it would be a discount if it was new.

        This machine is used, it's not the same as buying something new…

          So what you are saying is that prices for refurbished items cannot be compared. Please delete your comment requesting the "normal" price for a refurb.

        • +2

          @twocsies:

          So what you are saying is that prices for refurbished items cannot be compared.

          It should be compared to the normal price of a refurb. It is misleading to compare the price to a new product as they are not the same thing.

        • -1

          @jv: I found your ignorance. There is no normal price of a refurb on Dell Outlet.

        • +1

          There is no normal price of a refurb on Dell Outlet.

          why not?

          if this is the first time they are selling it, then this is their normal price.

          Saying it's a $1550 discount is absolute rubbish, because it's not the same as a new one…

        • -1

          @jv: If you can't accept the comparison, then don't request it.

        • +1

          @twocsies:

          If you can't accept the comparison

          The comparison is misleading

          Most of the parts in it are used and therefore more likely to fail sooner…

        • +1

          @jv: What is more misleading is people who see a comparison that clearly describes the differences between the two items, then say it's misleading. Which additional information about the new item and the refurbished item would a reasonable person require to not be mislead?

        • +1

          @twocsies:

          that clearly describes the differences between the two items

          which proves a price comparison is misleading…

        • +1

          @jv: Bargain: A thing bought or offered for sale much more cheaply than is usual or expected.

          You requested a price comparison. The price comparison was not provided by the vendor because they do not have standard pricing for their refurbished items. As expectations differ from person to person, we can request data that might help evaluate bargains. However, pedantry enters when one cannot accept the assistance of others.

          OzBargain is not a vendor, so it does not need to comply with ACCC price comparison rules. If we clearly describe the two items and the two prices, then the advice that it is a bargain.

          If you aren't considering purchasing the item, and it is fairly likely that it's a bargain, maybe you should consider moving on to the next item rather than engaging in pedantry.

          @twocsies:

          Bargain: A thing bought or offered for sale much more cheaply than is usual or expected.

          I didn't say it wasn't a bargain, nor said that it can be found cheaper. I didn't neg the deal.

          I merely said that comparing it to a new product is a misleading price comparison

        • @jv: It's not a misleading price comparison. You weren't mislead. Nobody was mislead. The information was provided to enable you to make a more informed purchase. It's an informative price comparison made on a bargain advice website.

          Note that if you were truly concerned, you could say, "Thanks for going through the effort and showing me how to get the comparison prices. But I think that the new price and refurbished price is difficult for me to understand. It would be nice if I could have a better comparison such as the normal price of the refurbished item."

          Dell only gets refurbished items when they are RMA'd. There are only relatively small quantities of refurbished laptops, and as far as anyone can tell, there is no "normal" price of the refurbished items at Dell. The important qualities to inspect are the relative newness of the laptop, and the current new price can be informative.

        • +1

          @twocsies:

          It's not a misleading price comparison.

          Yes it is… You are comparing prices from a product that is brand new, to one that has been used, damaged and had parts replaced…

        • @twocsies:

          Mate don't bother with jv. He just likes to argue for the sake of it. Don't feed the troll.

        • @jv: I'm comparing them but I'm not misleading myself. And you aren't comparing them because you have enough information that you don't feel that they are informative. So who is being mislead?

        • @CVonV:

          Don't feed the troll.

          Oh the hypocrisy…..

        • @jv:

          what are you on about lol? i wasn't even replying to you

    My wife has a 4th gen 5000 series lattitude and the 1366 screen is second rate . Looks like a very cheap TN panel and ruins what could be a nice laptop IMHO .
    Hers came from the outlet as well and was brand new in appearance albeit with a couple of tiny scuff marks on the case . I suspect the $1600 specced machine has an IPS 1080 screen but I didn't look .

    • +1

      The screen is the weak point I agree, still for the price you'd be hard pressed to find one that competes.

  • +4

    I will never understand why some morons use on a +13" display a lower resolution than the standard 5" smartphone. Come one Dell, HP, Acer and co. start using proper displays

  • +1

    with couple months old CPU already has so many repaired laptops, got to touch wood before buying these laptop.

    • that's my experience buying from Dell outlet……NEVER again!

      had 2 broke down, so much hassle for the warranty period!
      and the warranty claim is not the same as buying from new….

  • http://www.dell.com/au/business/p/latitude-e5450-laptop/pd

    This is what it looks like for anyone wondering :)

  • Need your advice. Will be working short term with vision impaired students. My
    H.P.envy 17 has a non working keyboard still waiting for tech support to phone me back . need large screen is this one's screen OK Or is 14.5 inch worth extra.
    Have to carry it from school to school. Appreciate your feedback. My envy keyboard is singing or shrieking at me. Sounds sick

    • I can't tell you which screen size is appropriate. Obviously 15" is bigger than 14", and 17" is bigger still.

      Dell Outlet only lists one 17" model at current, and it's an Inspiron.

      http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/product…
      DFO-3221663IP REFURBISHED
      Inspiron 17 5000 Series Laptop 5th Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-5500U Processor (4M Cache, up to 3.00 GHz)
      $ 899

      This price isn't so great because we can find a Dell 17" brand new for $999. However the internal components of the refurb model are a bit better than the $999 model. http://www.dell.com/au/p/inspiron-17-5758-laptop/pd?ref=PD_O…

      If you aren't in a rush, Dell will get more refurbs as time goes on.

    • Usually a 15" screen is cheaper than a 14" screen. Dell Outlet currently lists only one 15" model, a Latitude, DFO-3209172LT for $665. Note that the CPU is the upgrade from the OP's 14" model.

      DFO-3209172LT Latitude 15 5000 Series 5th Generation Intel Core i5-5300U (Dual Core, 2.3GHz, 3M cache) $665

  • I have bought 2 dell latitude refurbs in the past couple of years. Both have been in perfect nick (even when they said cosmetic wear), arrive in a few days and not given me any problems. Recommend.

  • +2

    I got a 6430u nearly two years ago for $570 from Outlet. Had the latest i5, 128GB SSD, 8GB RAM. Diamonds do come up every so often.

    • For $599 there is a E6430 with similar specs as above except with an i5. I'd say it's worth the extra $24 for a much faster CPU.

  • Thanks, appreciate feedback

  • Bought a Dell Latitude 13 7000 for $799! Sales rep says should arrive by Friday. Feeling good that I passed up on JB Hi-fi's 15% off on Yoga 3 11" last week. Double the RAM and SSD and a bigger, detachable screen for almost the same price

  • Can you tell me how often dell updates their listing?
    Am thinking to buy cheaper one for work and upgrading to 17 inch with SSD.
    Thanks for your help
    Joy

    • Totally random as far as I can tell! Sounds like a good idea.

  • Seems like I have a plan but it is thwarted by Dell! Their Web site for refurbished laptops is no longer available. Maybe tomorrow?
