  • TeraStation Pro 6 has been discontinued. Availability will remain while supplies last. This product will be replaced by the TeraStation 5000 Series of high-performance NAS and iSCSI Unified Storage Solutions featuring Buffalo's Surveillance Video Manager for advanced forensics-based video lifecycle management.

    TeraStation™ Pro 6

    Was good in its day, look a little long in the tooth now.

    Next best price is $499 at OO.com.au so it looks like there is excess stock left over that these sites are trying to clear out.

    But not a bad price, but if there are any issues you might be left high and dry especially with these types of sites.

    It's replacement is the TeraStation 5600 (6 Bay NAS) which is $1014 at EYO

    • Most Home users don't need high performance, they will just be storing Photos, Documents, Music, Movies etc

      • Business users can use OzBargain, too!

      • Home users are susceptible to hardware failure. It might be a bit difficult to recover your data off your drives if the device cracks it and u can't get a replacement.

          Why are only home users susceptible to hardware failure? Anyone who doesn't back up their data is an idiot.

    This review seems favorable, although it was written in 2012.

  • Seems bloody impossible to find whether it can function as a Plex server or SABNZB downloader…

    • Info on the net when you google this seems to suggest that Plex needs to have Linux Kernel 2.6, as it depends on a certain version of glibc that is integral to Linux, which some older models of this brand don't have. I did see some other info about a guy who managed to get it working on a 2.4 kernel of another model by getting a special version of glibc from somewhere, but it seemed quite technical.

      See the following;
      * http://www.tomatosoft.hu/gadgets/implement-plex-media-server…
      * http://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/22fv25/dummies_guide_t…
      * http://www.tomatosoft.hu/gadgets/portfolio/buffalo-linkstati… (this is for the Linkstation but you might be able to talk to the author about the TeraStation)

      So the short answer is it probably depends what Linux Kernel this model runs and how technically astute you are.

      Also I think both the Terastation and the Linkstation are ARM processors, not Intel, and so you have little hope of transcoding videos.

      • Thanks for that, though it's sold out now anyway it seems.

        This particular one uses an Intel Atom x86 processor actually… from all reports there was a good chance it would have some kind of stutters when attempting to transcode 1080p stuff…

        Still waiting for the ultimate low price NAS (like the N54L but better)…

  • Good specs for these prices.

  • My Buffalo LinkStation Pro Quad just died after about 3 years. I'm pretty sure the power supply died. Anyone know where you can buy replacement buffalo parts?

  • Thanks for this, decent price for what it is. I used the 10% code and cash back as well.

  • What is the read/write speed of this?
    Does this support raid 5?

    • read/write speeds will depend on the drives you put in it.
