Sharp Microwave w/ Grill R67B1S $99 (RRP $269) @Masters

1270

I saw this deal this morning when looking for decking oil. I have the same model but white color that I purchased last year for ~$190 from binglee. For $99 I think it's a bargain! Build quality is good, and I love the door style.

Plenty of stock in Masters Canberra Airport

Apparently it's nationwide as comment below

  • Thanks OP, picked one up from the keysborough store. They had about 8 of each colour (white/silver) left.

i got it, the lousy bottom plastic piece leaves a big gap about 8-9mm which is a bit annoying to look at,
note, this microwave oven does not spin. i think it would have been better to invest in a turbo ovan like someone above mentioned. as its not really a proper microwave (no spinning), and not a porper grill, takes a while to the red pipes to heat up on top (about 3 mins) so turbo oven would have been a better buy. i would say It was worth the $99 but nothing more.

    • thanks mate. Very useful comments. I wasn't even aware that you could buy microwaves that don't spin!

Almost bought one today but have been putting it off.

A proper microwave does not necessarily have a rotating turntable. Commercial microwaves for example, have a rotating reflector underneath the cooking chamber acting as a microwave stirrer. I believe Panasonic now have domestic models with that technology. The lack of a turntable means you can fit more in the oven, and it's easier to clean.

      • Do you know of this one has such a deflector?

        • Yes i believe it uses something similar.
          Sharp calls it "Flatbed Technology"

        • Flatbed technology for easy cleaning and more space for larger dishes

DIY option. Here is mine and a selfie

        • Do you know of this one has such a deflector?

It most probably does. How effective it is will depend on the design.

        • @TightBottom: jacket potato

    • "The lousy bottom plastic piece leaves a big gap about 8-9mm which is a bit annoying to look at" fully agree

Can you grill and microwave at the same time? Mixed mode cooking I think they call it

    • same here, I bought it thinking it could do that…if not I will probably return it…

      • Did you only just buy it or are you just putting in the comment now? Any chance of testing it out?

  • What is that black boxy thingy under the microwave?

    • +11

Oh that, it's the same concept as in the airplane. It records all the microwave signal in case of any incidents.

    • Maybe the 'Black Box' has something to do with 'Ride on Time'

  • About 20 left at southmorang at 10am.

  • Can anyone advise how noisy the door is on this when you open/close it. Current microwave occasionally wakes the baby when we close the door.

  • Here is a link to the Instruction Manual.

No mention of the capacity (litres) other than it's Mid-size. Sometimes the model number gives it away.

Picked one up - honestly though, I'd feel pretty robbed if I paid anywhere near RRP for this.
Quite plasticky, and the internal space seems pretty small.

Also, Masters is such a badly run place - huge, devoid of customers, and lots of stock which either is of unknown brands or not well priced. Staff also seem to be in state of apathy, not really got handle on the stock etc….
No wonder, Masters is dragging the Woolworths price down…. Down, down, down, as they say

The Masters in my area was quite busy, considering how out of the way it is for most people. It was nicely laid out and staff were friendly. Glad to see that there's an alternative to Bunnings.

The microwave on the other hand does seem pretty cheap and I definitely wouldn't pay $250 for it. The side button panel is somehow already filled with scratches.

  • Tried Adelaide, said they sold out immediately and no hope of any more stock…..bait & switch?

    • +4

Apart from OzBargain, what "bait" enticed you to visit Masters, and what did Masters "switch" you to?

I'd bet it's more a case of "you snooze, you lose" than "bait and switch".

      P.S. I didn't neg you.

  • went in this morning at masters toorak, vic… picked up white one… heaps in stock, around 25+

  • Our National convention microwave carked it a few months ago…boo hoo. It had a long and perfectly healthy life till then.

  • Those of you who've purchased this and are using it, any reviews? I'd love some opinions from fellow OZBs!

Bought couple of units, tried both of them seems like it doesn't heat evenly. One side of dinner plate is boiling while other side is warm.

Just wondering if others having same issues.

      • +1

The wonders of 'flat plate technology' as compared to the traditional turntable. Ha ha.
Haven't plugged mine yet - I'm an Ozbargainer - bought it because I thought it was cheap, not that I have place for it ;)

        • How about the warranty, if you don't use it now?

    • +4

I'm tempting to buy one, and ask fellow OZBs' opinion about the flatbed technology. I gets no response. Then, I headed to Whirlpool forum for clue, and would like to share the finding with fellow OZBs,

phoenixdigital comment on Flat Bed Microwave Ovens.(no turntable)

and some photos that worth a thousand words to describe the performance difference between flatbed oven and turntable oven.

      • I think it's more the domestic implementation of flatbeds that's the problem. Restaurants using commercial flatbed microwaves (Amana, Menumaster, Birko etc) wouldn't be able to work with uneven heating.

      • THANK YOU.

We have just bought one from Everton Park, Qld, they still have plenty of them (both White & Silver). Also to our surprise the Masters at Everton Park now has 10% off Store Wide, so we paid for that one just $89.10 - great bargain:)

  • Still available in WA?

  • Got the last silver one at Canberra Masters… They still had 4 white ones at 18:30 today!

  • I am feeling guilty. I only went to Masters for the free paint sample (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/200874) but ended up carrying this microwave oven home, because they are offering $100 of $65+ spending. I have a perfectly working microwave oven at home.
