    Gota drop this back in the post;

"Valspar 500ml Paint Free Sample Pot from Master"

That is a $14 dollar saving and a great handy little pot for touch up jobs.

  • Potentially dumb question here. Is the free sample pot only available during the 20% off sale (not…say…tomorrow) ?

    • +1

Yeah it's from the same catalogue, so it's only available from 2nd of July (same as the 20% off sale).

    • +4

The free sample pot is available for the full length of the catalogue from 2/7 to 15/7.
20% Off Paint is only from 2/7 to 5/7.

  • dammit, just bought paint today

Does anyone have recommendations on which brand paint to buy from masters? For repainting interior walls. When I looked at masters they seemed to push Valspar heavily but not sure if that was due to quality or profit.

How many sample pots would I need to paint my 2 bedroom unit?

    • 1L covers about 16m2. 1 coat.

    • I'm going to take a stab and say about 30-40.
Depends on a lot of factors, but I'd say it would be a minimum of 15L, up to about 20L, assuming 2 coats.

    • Just to clarify there is a limit of 1 free pot per customer

      • can we choose colour?

        • +1

Last time I got free paint from Masters, you had to tell them what color you wanted (by selecting one colour from their colour wall) and they would prepare it for you within a few minutes.

        • Yes

Is it confirmed that the free paint offer is from all masters stores? It might be specific to the one near you?

Currently painting the outside of my house with Valspar, it's absolutely brilliant. Thick and very good coverage indeed. Got 24L in a recent sale.

  • Is it only bright green like in the pic?

Valspar is good paint. They have a few other brands under the whole Valspar company/group. They do DeBeer automotive 2 pac paints, as well as the high end House of Kolor paints. Very popular and trusted brand in the auto industry. Plus a heap more.

Source: I used to be a Paint Rep for their Automotive lines.

    • what's the difference between cheap paint and higher quality paint?

what am I getting for the extra 100% premium expensive paint can charge?

      genuine question.

In house paint, I can't really comment as it's not my expertise, but the Valspar name and products, in automotive paint, it comes down to the quality of colour pigments and ingredients used etc. In return that allows better coverage per litre, etc. DeBeers auto paints have a unique cost saving system that allows you to use one thinner and hardener for most of their range, which is why it is a popular paint for cost savings.

House of Kolor paints are wildly expensive and considered the best in the business, because of the crazy effects and depth of colour that can be achieved.

If interested this gives you some information on some of the Valspar range.

I will add though, like anything, I believe their is a 'brand tax' on paint as well. IE: You will pay more for PPG, Glasurit, Spies Hecker….

Edit: Valspar in house paint is probably a 'lower end' named paint in regards to Dulux and the other big brands, but I believe they are making head way in the industry, being able to offer a cheaper alternative. What I would be looking for in this instance, is your coverage ltr per m2. Also I remember reading that some Valspar interior paint (and maybe exterior, not sure) has a range that has an primer incorporated into it to eliminate that part of the process.

  • I need to get some oil based primer/undercoat, but only for a small job. Would they put some of that in a sample pot?

    • The free paint is acrylic white but they will tint. No oil based or primers for free that I could see.

  • Could anyone please recommend a paint that is suitable to be used for nursery (e.g. cot, table etc)? Thanks!

There is a good deal on Hammerite metal paints. The normal price for a 700ml can is $37, Masters currently have cans with a bonus 33% for $20. Take off 20% and its $16 per 1 litre vs over $40 in the normal tins. This is even cheaper than buying 4 litre cans and you dont have to worry about it going off as much.

AFAIK this is a good quality paint which they cay can be applied with no primer although I would prep the surface prior to application.

I cant see the product on their website but they had plenty of stock at Northlakes
