  • It's a clearance item with limited stock, so I wouldn't be surprised if we have a similar situation as was found in this thread: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/19199

Good deal if you can get it, but I'm not sure what shipping is.

  • no stock = lame

  • wasn't this posted before?

Still available just now, and shipping to my area is only $4.95!

    • Why don't you buy it then?

    • which state you are in? (NSW?)

  • I can add it to the cart but can't get it any further: getting the ! icon and defaults the quantity back to zero.

It's a crazy price because they haven't actually got any to sell. It's a faux-bargain. I've pretty much come to the conclusion that Officeworks Clearance = No Stock

  • still can't add it to the cart

    still lame

  • no stock!!!

    cant added to cart

    waste my time!!!

  • You can't exactly add it to the cart, beacuse when you do the red exclamation will appear as described by holdenmg. The explanation of the warning icons appears on the right of the page. I guess their site isn't very user friendly.

  • Tried both Brisbane and Adelaide post codes, no stock available.

ordered it at 9.02 and someone from my local store delivered it at 9.26, RIGHT ON!

  • Wow that sucks! I got heaps excited because I'm after a solid laptop in that exact price range, was almost perfect!

Do you guys think it would be worth trying in stores tomorrow?

    • it does say only avaliable online

  • Been buying a lot of stuff on the Officeworks lately, and had a chat to the courier driver who has been delivering their stuff for a long time … everything comes from the same warehouse in NSW or VIC (can't remember which), so the whole 'stock levels vary between states' thing is a bit bull.

To test this theory further, I created a few different accounts, one in each state, but if an item was sold out in one state, it showed the same regardless of where I was ordering it from). I would assume that once the stock level reaches 0 online / at the warehouse, they wait for the stores who have remaining stock to sell out, then they remove the item from the site.

Having said that, I reckon most stores will match the online price if they have the stock, as they have for a few deals on here in the past, and the last time I was instore, there were quite a few items marked with yellow A4 'clearance' signs, matching the online 'clearance' prices … guess the trick is to find a store that actually has any stock.

    • There is fulfillment centres in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne & Perth - otherwise there is no way thay could do same day delivery.

      • Ah, ok - ignore my post then… didn't really think of that - must have been coincidence with the items I tested on the interstate accounts … guess it doesnt help living in Adelaide, where there isn't one, so everything comes from interstate :/

  • "This item is unavailable for backorder. The quantity shown in the 'Qty' box is the number of units currently available." :(

I got one today!!! After ringing around and getting the same answer everywhere, I finally found someone that wanted to help. Told me that theres a 'demo' at Fairfield store. So off I went on my merry way to Fairfield and picked up my new HP dv5 for $399.

    One very happy boy!

  • The OW documentation is minimual at best… Does the laptop have HDMI ('cause HP website says it so, but who knows)?

  • yes so happy, i got same day delivery!

  • For those who couldn't get it.. might have better luck for an extra hundred $ with gigabit lan and wireless n:

I take back my negative comment posted earlier. I also found a demo model of this by ringing around first thing this morning. It took three phone calls (asked the first one for stores showing stock) to track one down that actually existed. Wasn't expecting much, but surprisingly enough this is a really nice shiny looking laptop, it is the "Entertainment PC". They had some other clearance notebooks too, but none as good a deal as this HP.

  • Two of my last three laptops have been HP and both packed up a few weeks after the warranty expired, so I wouldn't invest a lot of money in one again, these are priced low enough to risk it though I suppose.
