Here's what you get:
Unisurf 8" Windows 8.1 16GB Tablet (Free upgrade to Windows 10)
MS Office 365 1yr subscription
1TB OneDrive Storgage
8GB Micro SD Card
Trend Micro Mobile Security for Android 12Mth
First of all let me credit martyn for the original 7" deal, MJD682 for the Trend Micro deal and brucefromaustralia for putting them together in the 7" deal thread.
I created this deal because: A) bruce's hack was hidden in the comments, and B) there were a lot of complaints in the 7" deal about screen quality and inability to power the device without losing the USB port. This device has neither of those problems.
This deal also contains a further hack for those with an eligible Amex who purchase two tablets, to get the price down by another $25 per tablet.
So with that out of the way, here's the deal:
This deal requires a small amount of work and a combination of deals, but it's a cheap price for a half decent tablet (with a much better screen than the 7" Unisurf).
First thing, you need to sign up to the Harvey Norman newsletter to get the $25 welcome voucher. If you've done this previously, just do it again with a different email address.
Second, you need to spend over $150 to get the voucher to work - unfortunately this tablet is only $133. Not to worry - we're going to combine it with this deal: "Trend Micro Mobile Security for Android 12Mth + 8GB Micro Memory Card $0 (after $20 Cashback) Harvey Norman" https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/197230.
That should push your total up to $153 and validate your voucher.
The final shopping cart total should be $128. With the Trend Micro Cashback ($20) and the Microsoft Cashback ($25), the final cost should be $83, which is more than a bargain for what you get.
Shipping costs will vary, but in-store pickup is free and fast (I ordered online at the store and popped off for a haircut and grocery shop and it was ready to collect by the time I was done)
With regards to the tablet, it seems like a reasonably decent product. Pretty snappy, OK screen (better than the 7", but not iPad/Samsung level), OK battery (haven't tested fully yet), solid build quality, but nothing flash. All in all, decent bang for buck - just don't expect the tablet to have the quality of an iPad or the power of a Surface Pro.
Just as a further note, if you buy two and have an Amex card, you can get a further $50 cashback:
https://network.americanexpress.com/connect/au/en/doe_offer_…
That would bring the price down to $57 each.
FYI: You would need to create two HN accounts, and make two trasactions to make this work. And you would also need to buy more Trend Micro packs to push it over $300.
Kudos for the effort you've put into the deal :)
