Denon DP-300F Turntable $499 @ Sydney Hi-Fi

40

$649rrp down to $499

The DP-300F has been designed with heavier base construction for reduced vibration and improved performance. The all new tonearm has a removable headshell making cartridge replacement simple. The standard mount headshell allows for any standard mount cartridge between 5 ~ 10 grams to be mounted and balanced. The automatic startup feature allows the turntable to begin play with the touch of a button, and once play has been completed, the tonearm will be returned to the armrest gently so that the stylus and record are not damaged or scratched. The turntable is made of rigid diecast aluminum to produce uniform rotation for smooth flutter free operation. There is also a manual lifter mechanism that allows you to place the needle on the record wherever you want, so you can skip to a different song in the middle of a side.

The DP-300F includes a built-in phono equalizer to connect the player to an integrated amp or receiver that does not have its own phono input. This turntable is powered by a DC servo motor and belt drive system and has rotation speeds of 33 1/3 or 45 rpm. It comes with a MM cartridge so that you can begin to enjoy your analog record collection as soon as you connect the DP-300F to your home hi-fi system.

  • Any recommendations on a good budget turntable?

    • Thorens TD-160

    • Define "budget"

      • Cheaper than this, but not so awful as Aldi ones which apparently don't even operate at the correct speed.

Your best options generally go Clearaudio Concept -> Rega RP3 ($900) -> Pro Ject Debut Carbon DC ($500) -> Audio Technica LP120 ($300) -> u Turn Orbit or Project Elemental ($200-250)

Less than that is dicey, but an Audio Technica LP60 or a Numark TTUSB aren't completely shithouse options that will dig holes in your records and skip like a sailor at a pride march.

        • @jjcf:
Any hints about where to get the Audio Technica LP120 for about $300? I took a quick look and found prices around $389 and up.
          Thanks

        • If your budget is more like $120 (which mine was) check out the Sherwood (Welling) F700

          JB Hi-Fi
          Selby Acoustics

        • @Baysew: Thanks, that's an interesting option and looking like the low-end of a price range for something of acceptable (but not audiophile) quality.

        • @robbiequinn:
I'm answering my own question. $384 from eBay with CTWENTY code is about $305. I had managed to talk two shops down to $365 and $370. $305 is much nicer.

    • Pioneer plx1000. <$700 (if lucky). . Up to the rigors of DJing but supposedly a great sounding TT to boot. It's what I'd buy if wasn't otherwise sorted.

The word you were looking for in the last sentence of paragraph one was "cueing arm". :-p Two words for 27 has to be a bargain.
Denon were always a fair name - tho seeing the hallowed name Nakamichi reappear, but in the pages of a Radio Rentals catalogue, makes me think the End Times[tm] have come….
