    mmmmm…WWDC in 7 hours…

    • +3

haha, yeah first of many apple discounts on older lines incoming as a guess….

      • New macs?

        • Big Mac Pro I hope. It's been a while since they've updated it.

        • No new macs. just new OS X

  • Rep, can we use Wish Gift cards to pay?

    • -2

yes, you can use gift card.

      • thanks - e-gift cards too?

        • -1

          Yes please.

        • +1

          i belive not. last time i tried, i wasn't able to…
just pop into your local woolies and get some dse gift cards now! you have 16mins before the sale begins! :D

        • +4

          @brucebruce:
ermergerd. Thanks BruceBruce - or should I call you… CaitlynCaitlyn?

        • -1

          @brucebruce:
well, i used last time , no issues.

        • You can use Wish gift card in store but you can't on the online store.

    • Not working e-gift card. Go get Dsmith gift cards with your e-gift if you want it as others have said :)

  • Macbook Pro 15" is good buying at $2124.15.

This is the mid 2014 model with Iris Pro 5200 graphics, 16gb ram, 256gb hard drive. The early 2015 model only adds an extra hour of battery life, slightly improved graphics and a very marginally better broadwell cpu.

iMac 5k is also good at $2549.15.

This is still the current model.

Other Macs are pretty jacked up due to the Australian dollar depreciating significantly since Apple last released Macbook updates.

The standard iMacs might be getting updated in tomorrows WWDC conference so would wait and see for them.

    • +2

In the recent update I think they stuck with Haswell in the MBP15s due to lack of Broadwell quad core mobile CPUs. The SSD speed increase is probably worth noting though.

      • That's right. Intel has been pretty slow with the broadwell quad core rollout. SSD speed isn't going to be a deal breaker for majority of users.

    • Yes the 5K iMac is now retailing for over 3.3K on the Apple Store so this is a good deal. The cheaper 5K iMac that apple are selling does not have the 1TB Fusion Drive, only a standard HD.

      • Yes I got mine with the 10% sale at JB a couple weekends ago and saved a bundle. I got the top of the range model for less than the new entry level model. This is a bargain.

  • Damn!

  • Not applying to the XA1204

    • +1

      Maybe cos it's not 8pm?

      • +7

Morgan Freeman Voice: He's right you know.

      • That'll do it I guess lol

  • +1

Great deal! Won't buy anything from this but I'd CERTAINLY buy if this offer (or even something a little less) was extended to the S6! :)

  • I will buy Mac only from Kogan i think… Payed $750 for my Macbook Air on August last year. Missed the $500 deal but still not a bad price.

    • +3

$500 WILL NEVER happen again. I'm still crying over procrastinating over it :(

      $700 was the 13" too :)

    • +11

      What is payed?

    • Ahh the good old days when I paid $800 for my 13" 2014 MBA.

      • I got the 11" for $500. Ridiculous price. Along with the $200 iPad mini. That was an expensive day

  • +3

    just bought

MacBook Pro with Retina Display 15.4" 2.2GHz 256GB for $2124 after discount

  • +2

Apple jacked the prices up so this discount makes it the same price as last year without discount :(

    • agree, also Mac computer comes with international warranty so there is no difference in between Kogan's or others vs DickSmith's

    • Have Apple ever dropped price during AU$ stronger than US$? No

      • I don't understand your point? Are you saying Apple shouldn't have increased the price when AUD < USD?

        • +1

i guess his point is if Apple plays nice, they should decrease the prices they charged us back then when Aud>Usd and vice versa, not one-way like now (Usd>Aud)

        • @webtherapist: Thought so but he answered his own question so I thought it was some disagreement with me.

Edit: And of course someone comes and neg me for no reason ha.

        • @webtherapist: A MacBook isn't lobster, it's not like they have 'market price' that fluctuates daily. Those models launched when the AUD was strong, they're being adjusted now it's weak. The new ones will be priced by current rates.

      • +1

        Yes.

        http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/smartphone-apps/apple-aus…

        http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2013/02/apple-ups-the-specs-drops-…

You can say that they have been pressured to do so and took a really long time to do it, but its the same as any other retailers. Even the friggin banks do it with interest rate, any rates hikes they will increase it in the next 24 hours, but any rates drops they be like "Ahh, well let us think about it for a couple of weeks…."

      • Yes they have so you are WRONG!!

The way they do it is to look at the price at introduction and then price according to the A$ vs US$

Also they have repriced Itunes up and down over the years

    • Sorry to see you got negged, but you're not wrong. Not's not apple's fault though, the AUD got absolutely smashed in recent months

      • +1

Apparently you can't say anything about their prices with the amount of apple fanboys on this site.

        • Then what would you expect when are you making comments in a Apple price post? Are you trying to convert these so called Fanboys? Really if you want to play that game, expect it not to go smoothly.

        • +1

@RockyRaccoon: Have a read what I wrote, it was simply a statement, not even a complaint. So the minute you say something about the price, you'll get negged?

        • @bargainist: I read what you wrote. Did you read mine carefully?
Nothing to do with complaints. You made a statement to get a reaction, you got one so you got what you wanted, Doh!!

        • @RockyRaccoon: I never intended to get a reaction. Many people might not have known that the prices were higher than last year, hence my statement.

        • -3
  • Hmmmm I'm looking at the 2015 Macbook Pro 13" 256gb

    Discounted Price: $1784
    Education Price: $1959

    But its 8GB, I really want 16GB

    Education Price (/w 16GB): $2219

So the question is now is the extra 8GB ram worth $435…

    • I just got the 13" (has 8GB RAM) on Friday after selling my late 2013 15" which had 16GB of RAM. I have just decided to get the 2014 15" with 16GB RAM for $2124 from DSE (no dGPU). Going to return the 13" to Apple.
If you don't mind the 15" size, you will also get the quad-core processor and 16GB RAM (it is about 500 grams heavier than 13").

      Hope that helps.

      • What's the battery life on that like do you know? I'm on phone so I can't be bothered checking it.

        • +2

The battery life on the 13" is about 11 hours web browsing and typing word documents. My 15" didn't have a good battery life as it was the model with dGPU, but the non dGPU gets around 8.

        • @luztra: Alright thanks mate. I might pass on this deal pick up a 2014 13" rMBP 256gb for 1272 with employee discount, gift cards (7.5% off ones) and TRS. You think it's worth an extra $255 all up to get the 2015 version?

        • +3

          @spaghettiman:
The 2015 model has a faster CPU, GPU, RAM and SSD. The battery life is also improved over the 2014 model, and it has the new force touch trackpad.

        • @luztra: Thanks dude. Currently I'm using a 2009 windows laptop that doesn't even use an SSD so yeah, probably don't need a SSD faster than a SSD which is already 100x faster than my current drive LOL. I think the major deciding factor would be the force touch trackpad here, and even the battery life. However, $255 can get me a good quality mouse and a big external hard drive so I might just get the 2014 one. Thanks for the help mate, appreciate it :)

        • +1

          @spaghettiman:
No problems - the 2014 model is excellent for the price, and I think using the savings to get the accessories is a smart choice.

        • @spaghettiman: Hey! That's the exact model I'm after. Is there any way I would be able to get the laptop for that price without employee discount?

        • @jasopan: It'll be 1699 before any discounts at Dicksmith. So $1414.42 if you were to use 7.5% off gift cards and get TRS. Hope this helps :)

        • @spaghettiman: Can only find the 2015 model which is 2099 before discount. Can you link me to the 2014 one on Dicksmith?

        • @jasopan: Ask the guys in store. They'll let you know where there's stock :)

        • @spaghettiman: Oh great! Thanks. So there are more models available than what is shown on the site? Also, what is the TRS discount you mentioned?

With the DS discount it comes down to 1444 which is even cheaper than the refurbished model!

        • @jasopan: Yeah there's discontinued models still lying around and you can still buy them. If they don't have them in store they can get some in for you.
The TRS is the Tourist Refund Scheme where you can claim back GST if you are leaving the country within the next 60 days. More info here: http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4263.asp

          Hope this helps!

        • @spaghettiman: Awesome! Thanks for all your help. I may have to wait til next time as the deal ends at midnight and so I won't be able to call.

    • -1

NO it's definitely not worth $435 unless you run virtual OS's

    • No buy the 15" base model for $2124.15 and get the 16gb ram, quad core processor and better integrated graphics.

    • Nope 8GB is more than enough for anything on OSX even if you're running Windows 8.1 on bootcamp (which I am right now). The difference between 8GB and 16GB is hardly noticeable, unlike 4GB to 8GB.

    • What would you need 16gb of ram for unless you are running Windows 8 on a VM (or 2 at same time)

  • -2

    iPad & iPod, code invalid.

    • +4

      computers

  • hmmm Tempted to get the Macbook Air 13inch, only $1189 but I don't need it for the next two months wonder if it'll go cheaper

    • +1

Current harvey norman deal is better for macbook air 13 inch

      • Really? Is there a coupon code I'm missing? I don't need the office 365 or have an Amex

        • If you dont need office 365 and $50 harvey norman voucher than this deal is probably better. I am also trying to decide which deal to go for. Both companies really don't stand out for reputation.

      • Amex deal does t apply to Apple products. So even including HN voucher and Office cash back it still comes in at $1102 which is $13 more expensive than this deal.

        • I think it's $1,202, not $1,102. Just bought MBA 13" 128GB from this deal. It is $1,199.10 included tax.

        • @cminez:

Correct should have been $1202 with HN.

I just got MBA MacBook Air 13" 128gb for $1189 with DS deal.

  • So tempting on the imac 5K $2,549.15. Apple just release a new 5k imac last month, so this one gonna be a current model until nxt year. The only downside is have to stuck with Fusion drive, which have just 128gb SSD, not enough for me :(

    • eventually Apple will push the 5K to the whole iMac series when they can lower the cost of producing the screen, also, can't really benefit much if I upgrade from current iMac 27 slim into this 5K, could pass the attempting price last time (14%), now gonna pass the second time :)

      • Since this is my first iMac, so it better to go straight to 5k with better specs. 5k is not really important to me, I care more about the specs. i7 and ssd is a must for me. It gonna replace my old mac pro 2.4 i7, mainly used for retouching and edit video sometime.

        • Yeah get the 5k if you can afford it. That screen is incredible. I don't know how people live without an SSD. It makes such a difference in the long term.

    • I have the new models and sold my 2014 13" macbook pro with 512gig SSD to get the iMac 5k and I honestly can't say I notice a speed difference and I work with big files all the time. 1TB of space is great and the speed is great. The screen is AMAZING!!!

  • DSE must be the largest company by far to offer OZB exclusives

  • -1

    No new macbook?

  • Can't decide between macbook pro retina 13inch 128gb and 258gb. Any suggestions?

    • If you are going to install a lot of stuff, get the 256GB.
With the 128GB, I think I had about 104GB free out of the box.
BUT, you can always get an external hard drive later for the 128GB if needed - it saves you a few hundred dollars atm.

      • thanks I wil go with 128gb

        • +3

Wish I got a 256 over a 128. I'm always having to empty my recycle bin and delete photo albums to free up space for my 23GB bootcamp partition. Anyone managed to install Windows in bootcamp on an SD card?

        • @muncan: I've already bought the 128gb one a hour ago (and saw the comment by ShamelessBargains after my purchase) Can't you get a 128gb SDXC card and store stuffs like photos and music there?

        • @tyvod: An alternative would be this which you could just keep plugged into the Macbook.

        • @tyvod: in practice it's not as fun to save your programs and program data to an external drive. Windows bootcamp on an external drive (SD slot) on the other hand would be brilliant. Mac OS gets the SSD, Windows gets the SD.
That's how I'd prefer it, anyhoo.

    • +4

Buy the 256gb model. It will future proof you for many years and allow you to not have to worry about storage all the time. Storage is not user upgradeable on this model unfortunately.

      • Yes, I agree that if someone will install a lot of stuff then 256GB is a wise choice, unless they want to use an external hard drive or NAS for additional storage.
