Hi, the $50 vouchers are only redeemable on purchases over $300.

It feels a bit misleading that shoppingexpress only introduced this requirement after we made the initial purchase. I bought an SSD during the period, got the coupon a couple of days ago, only to be notified of the new terms and conditions.

      • +4

Not sure why people are negging Rep for a deal he didn't post and users did not read the fine print for full conditions. If SE changed the conditions later, then it is fine to blame them.

    • +10

Me too, very disappointed with this requirement. I and whole ozbargain community always regarded shopping express to be best small business but this time it has let us down. If I knew about the requirement I wouldn't have bought Samsung evo 1Tb.

    • +4

It does mention a "minimum purchase value will apply" however it should have stated the actual amount, so I can see where you are coming from.
      http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/shoppingexpress_rewards#lo…

    • +9

I have to agree with sentiments here. Regardless of whether it's stated minimum spend or not, $300 as minimum spend is quite a lot.

I actually purchased a HP G1610T back then in hope of scoring some hard disks later on with $50 off voucher. You did the WD Red sale before June, so there was no voucher yet. Now there's another HDD sale, but you're also limiting the maximum order of the NAS drive to one. Even if I'm allowed to buy 2, it's still not $300 yet.

Sure, shoppingexpress is well within its rights to set conditions like this. However, there's also customers' perception of seller's sincerity of doing sales. At the moment this is raising concerns. Why not just be transparent about it and do less price reduction without entangling customers with voucher promises and minimum spend? Most people here would probably know MSY, Umart and staticice anyways, they know street price.

One may say OzBargainers are entitled bunch, but seriously, this is a website for bargains.

      /end rant

      • +6

Plus $50 off is only ~17%. I'd rather just have a generic %15 off code with no minimum spend.

        • +1

Posts on ozb always include details like this. It's not a deal once you say there is a minimum spend, esp an unknown one. I think a lot people overlooked it which says just how well it was hidden. And this is ozb where things like this almost never get missed and posts are updated once discovered.
This deal had big flashy banners for multiple offers and then a fine print somewhere tucked below. There was no reference point in the offer to make people aware that they needed to read the fine print which is what most businesses do when they have catches.

I looked at the offer page myself and didn't pick up on it either. There was one catch written under the offer to receive $50 voucher ( * to be used between…). But catch 2 (minimum spend) was not included here also. Both could have been put there, and putting one there but not the other may be part reason that other restrictions were overlooked.

There should have been a point to read the terms under the offer. I bought from them because of the offer. I wouldn't if I knew of the minimum spend and definitely not with a minimum spend that had not even been decided on. They could have made it any ridiculous amount they wanted. Or they could make it what it is which is nothing more than the usual offers that pop up from time to time, a small percentage with high spend restrictions and not something that feels it was awarded as part of a deal.

      • Hi Walletroo,

The prices of our Hard drives including WD Red as sharp as MSY's prices and the limit is 4 per customer on most sizes. Please take another look.

Also it is 1st June with more deals yet to come - it's not fair to say we are not sincerity of doing sales. To help provide fillers, our memory card and usb drives have also been given Free Shipping during this period, with very sharp price still offered. We believe we are offering genuine specials to help everyone - everyone just need to calm down and look at what's coming next or take a look closer at what we offer at our website.

It's not too late to subscribe to our newsletter so you have the latest promotions that may not be featured on ozbargain during this period as not every type of item is popular on ozbargain.

        Cheers

For people in Melbourne who want to use these $50 voucher, but can't meet the minimum $300 requirement. Please send me a message.

I want to buy the $59 Sandisk 128GB SSD SATA SDSSDP-128G-Q25. If anyone in Melbourne can't spend $300, please send me a message. You can buy for me and you can use your voucher. I can come to pick it up and pay you cash.

  • That's a great price on the NAS drives. Pity I just bought some WD Reds at a good bit more.

    Thanks OP for the post.

    Just want to point out:
The 64GB Microsd is free shipping and so are ALL our MicroSD & USB drives during this period.

Why are we negging this comment? I can understand the above comment of $50 voucher (which makes sense), but why this one? It is just information.

      • Comment does not say "free shipping on all the things" so is neg worthy ;)

    • Rep, any chance of getting that NUC with Win 8 64-bit instead of 32? Or will there be more NUac specials coming today?

      • Scratch that…it appears that the $299 NUC Celeron N2820 is all gone.

        • We will try to arrange more, please put wish list and standby for new stock.

          Cheers
          SE

        • @ShoppingExpress:

          Oh no….you are tempting me.

I would prefer a similar deal on the i3 unit (http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/intel-nuc-nuc5i3ryh-i3…) with RAM + SSD + Windows 8 (64bit) but I am not sure if this is possible.

Otherwise if you can do the $299 N2820 as before but with Windows 8 64-Bit, the previous deal was pretty sweet and you almost had me but I would prefer an i3.

Let us know what you can do…with Windows 10 around the corner a NUC would be a great evaluation platform before converting over the mission critical gear.

  • +5

Store Rep - can you shed any light on the recent voucher promo and the lack of detail re the $300 minimum spend please??
    thanks

  • The Kingston class 10 microsd 64gb is a pretty good deal - almost $10 cheaper than MSY!

    • +1

I'd steer well clear of Kingston sd cards- I've had 3 fail on me in the past year or so.

      • Yikes… Just realise that after buying one. Looks like I might have to run some tests on it before using it.

What device did you have yours in? How did you get 3 cards all fail??

        • Lifetime warranty. Just make a claim?

        • Samsung smart phones mostly. Yeah I got them replaced, its just a muck around having to replace all your data.

        • @ferrarifreak:

I've had 2 sandisk 64G cards, and a transcend 64 microsd and all have failed on my android phone. Have had no problems with any 32G cards though. A lot of people seem to be having this issue…

        • @donnot: Yep, Lexar and Samsung 64gb cards died in Android/Xperia Z. Using a 32gb Sandisk and it still fails but i can still recover and fix the card on my PC.

        • @TZK:
Xperia Z here too! Had no problems with a sandisk 32…only issues if I remove it while the phone is running.

      • Check our Sandisk memory card if you don't like kingston, they are at the sharpest pricing with free delivery too.

Shopping express has great sales and I brought from them alot of stuff.
However the 3TB SATA NAS drive is good value except for one problem
Limit of ONE. I need 4 for my NAS…..GRRRRRRRRRR

    • Last I checked there was a 2 unit limit. Seems like they changed it when I posted this.

      • hmmm it is like buying a puppy at a good price but only get one leg. The other three get later on….
Anyone buying from Canberra so my puppy can have more than one leg (3tb NAS drive for $139)

        • Really? My laptop only has one hard drive in it, but it doesn't run like a crippled one-legged dog.

        • @edfoo:
hmm edfoo i did not know that laptops and NAS were the same. Does your laptop have 4 drive bays :)

        • @rps: Nope, my NAS only has 2 drive bays. Laptop only one.
You can always buy 3 extra hard drives from them at extra cost, or buy from elsewhere. That will solve your crippled dog issue :)

        • word of advice seriously you should not buy all 4 from the same batch as you have a higher chance of them all failing at the same time. (which is a bad thing for RAID)

    • +2

If at all possible try to buy drives from different batches, even different manufacturers. It reduces the risk of a manufacturing error which causes multiple drives to fail within a short period of time.

      • good call as there been faulty batches

  • Hey Rep, Were all the vouchers for May mailed out? I spent like $450 in one transaction and didn't get sent a voucher.

        • Yep, saw the post now - cheers. A blatant scam by the sounds of it.

        • +2

@dalecjr: A blatant scam, or did you blatantly not read the T&C, or the comments in the deal posted by EC?

        • -2

I didn't read every single comment no, but that doesn't change the fact that the conditions were not specified by Shopping Express. What about people who don't use Ozbargain? Weird as that may seem.

        • +2

          @dalecjr:

but that doesn't change the fact that the conditions were not specified by Shopping Express

Hmm, the minimum purchase requirement looks pretty clearly stated to me on SE's website? It's in the T&C right below the deal:

          http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/shoppingexpress_rewards

Or were you aware of the minimum purchase requirement but was hoping it would be lower?

        • +1

The amount isn't published - just the fact there is a minimum spend. Where are you seeing this??

        • +1

@dalecjr: The min order amount required to use the voucher still isn't published one the T&C's page, just that there is one.

        • @CyberGenesys: you're right actually. I mistook the $300+ reference for the wrong thing.

  • $139 + Shipping Seagate NAS 3TB SATA 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

how much is normally for the non NAS (ie green or maybe red)>? is it worth to get this over cheaper version?

    • "red" and "green" are Western Digital… this is a seagate drive… so your comparison is irrelevant…

these drives are designed for 24/7 use in a nas or basic file storage… so it depends what your needs are

  • @rep do any of those mini PC's you have for sale have 2 x GBit LAN ports? Looking for one for making a home router.

    • No, they don't.

      Cheers
      SE

  • Seriously what is the point of buying just 1 NAS drive.

    • +1

Well.. a NAS doesn't have to be RAID. Some people might just want to backup their computer, or store some TV shows.

      • Why would you RAID 0 a NAS?

You are just doubling your chances of losing all the data. If you need quick access to a file, you wouldnt put it in a NAS in the first place…

        • +1

You do know there's more than one type of RAID, right? :)

        • @eug:

Yes that is why I said RAID 0…

Or didn't you see the zero??

        • +1

@GreatWhiteHunter: I think eug meant that you could have a NAS without RAID, ie single HDD NAS. You still need two drives for RAID 0

          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_RAID_levels

You are correct though, RAID 0 is a bit of silly unless you are using RAID for performance increase

        • @GreatWhiteHunter:

Yes that is why I said RAID 0…

Why would you RAID 0 a NAS?

Nobody said they were going to run RAID 0 on a NAS.
RAID 1, on the other hand, would be quite common.

  • +1

Anyone know how good or bad that color laser is?

  • $139 + Shipping Seagate NAS 3TB SATA 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

is it possible to RAID this with WD Green 3TB SATA 3.5" Internal Hard Drive $129.00? Thanks

    • RAID needs to be same brand, model and ideally, same firmware too. WD Green is not designed for RAID anyway and you're asking for trouble if you do. Get the WD RE4 drives or the Seagate Constellations for RAID.

      • +2

lol no… just no… the NAS drives are perfectly fine for RAID… you only need enterprise class drives like the ones you reference for high access situations or you know… enterprise, they are complete and utter overkill for the average consumer

      • +1

RAID needs to be same brand, model and ideally, same firmware too

Any brand and model will work. You can even use drives of different sizes for a mirrored RAID array - it'll just use the smallest size. The worst that can happen is that a rebuild is triggered unnecessarily.

If you're after top performance then they should be matched, but if you're after reliability for a home mirrored array rather than top performance, using different brands or batches is a better idea. Lots of people got stung a few years ago when Seagate's 1TB drives had a firmware bug which killed multiple drives at once.

  • Any deals on nuc? Like last time $50 Off on nuc.

  • +1

    minimum spend $300?
was going to buy stuff for my new computer but will steer clear now with these rip off artists.

  • +1

Why are "clearance" items so laughably NOT discounted? Most of this stuff is outdated by months…

Btw- I looked at the WD 1TB Red & it's cheaper to me from MSY. It's almost impossible to see many "real" deals online (unless picked-up in-store)…except when a place is trying to dump excess stock. Then, they seem to want to make up for the lower priced "deal" in shipping/handling fees.

PLE, MSY, Netplus offer consistently good prices, shipped or in-store.

    Imho

  • "Special Discount 'NEW10OFF' is invalid"

  • +2

I am a big fan of Shopping Express and also their rep here who is very responsive.

They regularly offer good deals on various stuff, often their promotional prices are better than MSY etc - particularly when the promo includes free shipping.

Take for example the recent promos on hard disks where Shopping Express' delivered prices were lower than the pickup prices at MSY, Umart or anyone else on staticice. The prices were lower even if you excluded the fact you were also earning discount vouchers…

Similarly last week the Logitech G930 was $150 delivered, which is cheaper than anyone in Australia.

Shopping Express' regular prices are not as competitive - but for promo deals they are generally very very good…

However I too am a little disappointed at the very high $300 minimum spend requirement of the vouchers earnt in May. I acknowledge we were told there would be a minimum spend, but I didn't think that would be $300! I spent enough to qualify for a $50 voucher and I imagined the spending limits would be something like $50 for a $20 voucher and $100 for $50 voucher. Certainly no more than $200 for a $50 voucher.

If I had a $20 voucher I would be severely pissed to have to spend $300 to get a $20 discount.

So I am disappointed. But I also feel some of the comments they have received here are unfair - stuff like "rip off artists" etc…

Anyway I just hope there some good deals on stuff I want to buy between now and 16 June. With good promo deals in the next 2 weeks, spending $300 won't be that hard… Not spending $3k will be harder if the Asus gaming laptops go on special again…

I for one will continue to support Shopping Express and I note their latest promo for gift vouchers earn in June gives you vouchers with ZERO minimum spend requirement - so they appear to have already learnt their lesson from the May discount voucher experience…

    • +2

so they appear to have already learnt their lesson from the May discount voucher experience…

Did you see how the June vouchers are split? Spend half the voucher in July and the other half in August. Pretty damn annoying (I would even say it's worse than the high minimum spend T&Cs) to have to make two orders to use the vouchers (in such a short time frame too) but I guess that's what SE wants. Again, its only ~16% (at best I might add, since it's fixed value) and you have to spend a stupidly high amount to get the voucher in the first place.

Edit: or is it 14% off since you actually have to spend 1740 (over 3 orders; 1500 +120 +120) to get $240 off?

      • CyberGenesys it appears nothing would make you happy except free money falling from the sky.

Now a split between July and August is even worse than a minimum spend requirement for you!
2 months is also not what I would call a short timeframe??

I know I'd much rather no minimum spend and a split, and I suspect most people will be of the same view…

These are gift vouchers that are freebies when you buy a certain value of goods and those earnt in June don't have any minimum spend requirement. The fact they are split is up to Shopping Express. At least Shopping Express are being upfront this time about the precise conditions of the vouchers.

        • I'm sorry if I appear negative. It just seems like a lot of hoops to jump through for what will likely end up as 10% off for most people (even less if you are making a $3k order ;). Many other stores provide 10% off coupons with no other requirement than a minimum spend eg spend $100 or more and get 10% off and with no requirement to make another order (or two).

I should add that I am a big fan of shopping express and their deals. However, I rarely order more than 3 times a year from them, thus a 1 month expiry is useless to me. To take advantage of this deal I would also need to pay postage 3 times which is not much in comparison to the whole, but still an amount I would not be spending if I was making a single order.

Overall it seems like an excessively confusing way to replace what could be a simple 10% or 15% off instant use code.

  • Store Rep: I don't see 20% off my shopping cart despite over $400 WD Red NAS. How to apply discount?

    • +1

You need to put an item in the WD NAS category. (Which doesn't have WD Red HDDs)
      http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/wd-nas

The $95 item works but you'd need to get at least $475 worth of HDDs to even break even with the discount.
