Standard Mug Whole image is also $5. Purchased one recently, very nice quality - http://www.bigwphotos.com.au/photo-gifts/standard-mug-whole-…

    • whats the difference?

my eyes are bad they look the same to me

      • +4

The Whole image version places the photo top to bottom of the mug rather than having a white border.

        Looks much better IMHO.

        • ah ok
thank you, difference is subtle but yo're right it does look better

          will buy that one

    • So if the mug is good quality, how's the printing?
I bought one of those Cafepress style custom mugs a year ago and the printing has chipped off on the edges so are there some patchy white spots where the mug shows through.

      • +2

I used a high quality image taken with my DSLR and it looks super sharp on the mug. Only having it a few weeks I can't comment on the quality. No signs of chipping yet and it gets used daily.

You really can't go wrong for $5.

I bought one of these about 6 months ago.. I went for the whole image. I've had no problems with it. The printing is slightly grainy, so don't expect it to look like a photo. Other than that slight grainy look (which is perfectly fine to me), these mugs are brilliant for the price!!

    • How to select whole image? I click UR link and go buy now but takes me to the App Store, and the app doesn't have this option in the mug section :S

      • +1

It's under 'Photo Gifts', 'Mugs & Drinkware', 'Mugs', 'Standard Mugs' then the far right option :)

        • I'm only seeing "Digital prints, gifts, canvas & posters" as the original menu options.

Are your directions for the website? I'm trying to do it in the app. I find the website link fine but won't let me do it without downloading the app :S

        • +1

          @Benjamin7711:

Ah sorry, no I have no idea using an app :(

        • @iShibby:
Hi Shibby, thanks for trying to help out anyway. I'm trying on the computer now but still only getting the standard print and can't get the picture to display a "whole image". far right was left and right standards :(

    Ozbargain mug time?

Here's an orange text version for those who prefer it over white text on orange background.

I stay away from BigW photos nowadays, after a dreadful experience with a print on metal.
I found out that the BigW photo portal is unable to store photos at a resolution higher than somewhere around 4000x3000 pixes, because no matter how high the resolution of my image was, it was always downsized and compressed (client-side, by a Java applet, to reduce upload time). The support staff at BigW do not even realise this, and asked me to "try again". Realising what was happening, I declined and demanded a refund.

A mug may be fine, but I would not print anything bigger than A4 through their portal.

    • +6

I bet you're great fun at parties!

      • +4

Just trying to save others the hassle I went through. A photo portal not able to handle photos above ~12MP while offering the service to print at huge sizes is pretty bad. I feel bad for customers who pay good money and get bad products without understanding what happened.

Not true, ive had a couple 40"x30" canvas' done, and am very happy. Maybe i dont have an eye for detail, but they looks pretty good to me!! Having said that, the photo mug i had done was a little blurry, but at $5 doesnt bother me

        • +2

@itsdanthaman: When you say "not true", do you mean you verified that the image in your upload area was actually the same as what you uploaded?
Bit strange to say you don't have an eye for detail, while disputing what I say.
I do have an eye for detail, and my print was signiicantly less sharp than the original. If you can calculate dpi values, it's easy to quantify that their prints as sub-quality at large sizes.

@Make it so: I upvoted you because your comments are fair if you've experienced it (eg. my awful experiences with Groupon may help others who have been treated like dirt by Groupon, or those who just don't want hassles from unpleasant sellers).

My experience with Big W prints has been great. I got one of the 40in x 30in prints and it looks fantastic. However, your experience is still fair and reasonable. It may be quality control, or just pot luck.

        • @DeWalt: Thanks. I'm not some troll trying to badmouth a company unfairly. But I was flabbergasted when I noticed the upper limit in image size. But yeah, maybe just bad luck or a temporary system misconfiguration.

        • +1

          @Make it so:

you are correct, i apologize. I have no idea about dpi values, nor is it noticable enough for me to look further into it.

        • @Make it so:

I gave you an upvote on this comment cos I thought you deserved 2 for your previous comment.

      • -3

I wonder how many times you've tried to post that around the internet today, it still doesn't apply here.

  • Anyone know how long it takes generally from hitting the SEND button to being ready in store? Big-W is a fair drive for me and I have something else I want to get in-store, would be good if I could time them both together.

A couple of weeks for me (I'm in Perth)

      • +1

        WEEKS?! Ay caramba!

Forget about that then. (thanks for the quick reply)

        • +1

Yeah I think it's printed in Melbourne or something and shipped over. At least that was the impression I got when I ordered it. Ordered mine on 12 January and it arrived at the store on 24 January.

        • @ilikeradiohead:

Wow really? Sounds very inefficient! For $5 they'd have to be close to losing money on this deal.

        • +1

@ilikeradiohead: It's printed by Photo Create in Glen Innes. They print work for nearly every lab in Australia

        • Duplicate post, please delete

When I ordered one for mothers day a few weeks ago, it was in store ready for pick up after 4 working days.

      • Okay thanks, better than weeks but I'll just make the 2 trips as the item I want will be gone if I wait too long (part of drop zone sale)

  • +13

In case you don't know what kind of photo works well for these projects - any old mug shot will do

    • a photo of an old mug on a new mug, quite clever indeed, just like Kramer's coffee table book on coffee tables that also converts into a mini coffee table!

      • +1

I might actually do this for kicks from guests.

(the mug not the coffee table, though I remember that episode clearly) :)

    • +1

      like this?

      http://s24.postimg.org/68py7hifp/MUG_SHOT_small.jpg

…yes, i actually ordered that hahaha

  • Couple of gifts throughout the year sorted :)

  • Cheers OP. Bought 12!

  • Just let you know that this offer is not in store. Only online when you personally signed up. Store still showing $20 or $18.

  • anyone know if theres a specific time this offer ends?

    • this finishes tonight at midnight aest

  • How will I know if my mug is ready for pickup?

I used the OzB link posted above and paid with paypal, I wasn't asked to sign in or make an account or anything. I didn't enter my email address or phone number, so how will I be notified?

  • +1

Mine are ready for collection already (QLD store) quicker than expected.

They will send you an email when ready.

    • Did you make an account? Or did they send an email to the paypal account you used?

      • +1

There were 3 options to log in, I'm assuming you chose the 'Log in with PayPal' option, so I'm also assuming they'll notify you through the email used for your PayPal.

I logged in via Facebook, and they sent the message to the email I use for my Facebook account. Never created a Big W Photos account.

        • Yeah, I logged in with Paypal and they didn't ask me to make an account. No email and it's been a week, so I'm a bit worried about it.

        • Ah forgot to mention they sent the purchase confirmation email to my junk inbox.

          Try checking that

        • +1

          @Scoot:

I just checked my junk email folder and didn't see it in there. It automatically deletes junk after 10 days and it has been only a week, so I guess I will keep waiting and ring Big W up on Tuesday. Thanks for your help.

  • mug turned up, it was beautiful. Dunno what the tripper was going on about dpi values crap. Looked fantastic.

    then i smashed it.
