    Hi Rep,
    I don't use/have Netflix at the moment.
Do you need a Netflix account to use your service?
    Thanks.

    • +4

You will need a Netflix account. Netflix accounts work world wide, but only show content dependant on where you are in the world. Uflix enables you to access the US netflix content from AU, provided you have a Netflix account.

    • +2

Looks like yes you do - "Using uFlix you are able to view many more movies and t.v. shows using your existing Netflix subscription."

    • +9

      Hi allenlim,

Yes, you will need an active Netflix subscription in order to use our service. Here is how the service works.

Netflix uses your IP address to determine where you are geographically located. As an example, your IP address is 111.111.111.111 and it knows that 111.111.111.111 is an Australian IP address. It will then serve you content that is for Australian users.

uFlix gets around this by authenticating you on our servers. Once you choose your exit node (a server located in a different region, for example, USA), it masks your IP address for Netflix. So, Netflix will see your IP address as (for example) 222.222.222.222. It will determine that 222.222.222.222 is an IP from the USA and serve your content for USA users.

Selecting a different exit node (Netflix Region) will again change the available content for Netflix.

      • Hope this helps!

      Thanks.

      • Cheers guys. Thanks for the info … now the pressure to decide if I would like Netflix.

        • +2

Netflix comes with a 30 day free trial when you sign up.
uFlix comes with a 14 day free trial (though, you will not be able to use this coupon code after 48 hours from now).

So, if you sign up to both today, you have 48 hours to decide if the services are worth it for you, if you choose to use the coupon.
If not, you can try both for free for 14 days. If you decide it is worth it, you can purchase a uFlix subscription for $2/m or $20/y.

          Thanks.

      • THanks for this info OP. How does it work if Im using the netflix app on my smarttv ?

        • +1

It works the exact same way as other devices. Sign in to uFlix via your home network (same network as your smart TV), and then load up your Netflix app on your smart tv. Please note, not all devices are (officially) supported. Please try the service first and submit a ticket if you run in to issues before buying.

For the most part, it works on most devices. But please try it first :)

          Thanks.

      • Uflix, I don't get how the DNS workaround works?

A DNS server just converts a domain name to an IP address. How does this affect my routing to the USA, when my OZ Public IP address on my modem never changes?

        • Basically when you try to access

          something.netflix.com

It will know that it needs to go through our servers, so it will send it through us. Your public IP will not change unless we have specifically told it to do so (something.netflix.com). It is not a service that hides you all over the internet. Only on certain domains.

          Thanks.

        • So are your DNS servers located in the USA?

        • +1

          @95331140:

The system works by sending selected traffic through their proxies. That's what changes your IP. The DNS is just a method for transparently directing your traffic to the right proxy (or none at all).

They have DNS servers located in Australia but the proxies are located in USA, Canada, Germany and UK.

    • Hello Rep

Just a few Q's from someone who doesn't watch a lot of TV…

      1. Does uFlix do any good for those who'd only be accessing FREE Content from overseas?

      2. Does the BBC iPlayer cost $$ to use? If it does, isn't it enough to use, eg, Hola, to map our Aussie IP address to a, say, UK IP adr?

      3. Why wouldn't this be enough to open other free & paid services to us in AU?

      4. Is Hulu a subscription service or costfree?

      Thanks for all that… :-)

      • Hi IVI,

        1. The only free service we unblock is BBC iPlayer at the moment.
        2. BBC iPlayer is free.
        3. I don't understand this question.
        4. Hulu is a premium service. You will need to pay them for a subscription.

        Thanks :)

        • Thanks…

"Premium" eh? We say "paywalled" (like Fora.TV).

          Premium is marketing speak.. ;-)

Cf on-demand show "Under the Influence [of marketing & advertis'g]" on app "CBC Radio"… :-)

  • Good deal. Shame you didn't offer Vudu and Funimation in that and I would have jumped.

    • Hi SirFlibbled,

We will be adding (many) more channels with the launch of our new website.

      Thanks.

      • +1 for VUDU and also TIDAL as well please. These are both services and not channels.

  • +7

I signed up to the previous deal with these guys for 12 months, works flawlessly and simple to set-up/use.

US Netflix is FAR worth it for an extra $1.25 a month ($15/yr), especially if you're already paying $12 a month for AU Netflix.

    • Hi Benjamin7711,

I'm glad you are enjoying our service :)

      Thanks.

    • +2

Unless I'm mistaken, this service will allow you to access US Netflix with an AU Netflix account. I use Getflix, and it definitely works that way. You can change region to anywhere in the world and still use your AU account details.

      • Yes sorry just re-read what I wrote. What I meant was getting Uflx (or Getflix) to access the US channels for an extra $1.25 a month, actually $15 for the year, is far worth the extra spend on the $12 a month you will already be paying for Netflix.

On another note, Netflix accounts are technically world wide accounts. No matter where you sign up, or what currency you pay in, if you login in America you will see US content, and Australian content in AU, etc.

        • +1

You mentioned $12 a month which might be simply be the service you have chosen for yourself, however, I want to make sure if I can go with the cheapest option from Netflix Australia which something around $8.90 or something? I don't think there are any restrictions in terms of which Netflix account to go for. right?

        • +3

          @Mehrad:
Exactly right, the only difference between the plans are how many devices you can be logged onto at the same time, and whether you want Full HD or standard, or even 4K.

I'm personally on the $15 plan which is 4 simultaneous downloads and up to 4k resolution when supported, I go halves with my brother and his wife, so $7.50 a month per couple and there's 4 of us accessing it :) But yes the cheapest is $9, for 1 use at a time, standard definition

    • +4

      Hi jv,

Ours is working just fine :)

      Thanks.

      • +5

But if it gets blocked in future?

        • -8

But if it gets blocked in future?

Netflix have started blocking them, so there's no guarantee it will keep working…

        • +2

Then we will find a way to unblock it :)

        • +13

@jv: Netflix aren't interested in blocking them. They want everyone's money. They might go through the motions occasionally and block a DNS but they know that its really easy for these guys to bypass that.

I'm using Getflix myself, never been unable to access Netflix and these types if services have been around for years.

        • +2

@jv: They aren't blocking these services.

        • +3

          @jv:

Netflix haven't started blocking these types of services, though there are FUD-style articles from time to time saying they will, or noting changes in Netflix's Terms that might allow them to do so.

It's not in Netflix's interest to do so unless content owners insist on it specifically (do you really think those dinosaurs have the technical know how to grapple with this issue? Those same old guys who think the internet is a passing fad and can't see why we don't just buy CDs anymore?)

        • +1

          @jv:

          no they're not

        • -1

@uFlix: Just wondering, let's say in 6 months time Netflix put something in place to block this service and you can't find a way to unblock it, what would happen?

      • What about my WDTV? I'm a current uFlix subscriber and it's not working fine at all!

        • Hi rker,

We fixed the WD issue yesterday. It was an SNI related issue. Please try again. If the problem is still there, please submit a support ticket so we can see what is going on.

          Thanks.

    • +7

No, Netflix are not blocking these services.

"Netflix's chief product officer Neil Hunt insists the online video giant has not changed its policy.

"The claims that we have changed our policy on VPN are false," he said at the Consumer Electronics (CES) convention in Las Vegas.

"People who are using a VPN to access our service from outside of the area will find that it still works exactly as it has always done.""

      • +1

        ^^ This.

The whole "issue" started from an update to the Android app. Netflix changed it so they used the Google DNS lookup by default.
People thought that Netflix was trying to crack down on VPNs etc., but it was really just an ease-of-use fix on the back end. Still able to get around it with the usual methods (eg. these services).

TL:DR - Netflix cracking down = totally false!!

    • No

  • if your credit card got rejected, just use Paypal. It should work for both Hulu plus and netflix service

  • +4

For those that aren't aware, for obvious reasons any overseas version of Netflix will count towards your quota with iinet, and any other ISP offering quota-free access to Netflix AU

    • +2

      Hi Spackbace,

Yes, this is true. For those users who wish to use Netflix and not have it count towards their download quota, please select "Turn Off" in the Netflix Region selector on uFlix.

      Thanks.

      • So I can get unmetered overseas content on my internode connection this way?

        • Hi ramsheed,

Unfortunately not. Unmetered content is only for Australia.

          Thanks.

        • +1

The content will likely come from Australian servers, so yes. It's just the logon that would go overseas through a proxy. Try it out and let us know.

    • +2

The solution to that is to switch to an ISP with unlimited quota (like TPG) :P

  • Wondering does the BBC content allow access to view F1 races?

    • Hi bulntman,

BBC offers unblocking of BBC iPlayer. iPlayer content that is available is what you will be able to access.

      Thanks.

    • Not really, you generally need SkySports to watch F1 Races - Which is not a free service.

BBC F1 has streamed 1 race this year, otherwise they just have a Live text/voice stream.

      • I believe BBC iplayer shows about 10 races a year. Much like Australia
I also heard only about 3 of those are different to the ones in Australia

I tried with Hola to watch iplayer, but it was too laggy

        • +1

DC is fine as an alternative to Brundle, but Ben Edwards is extremely painful to listen to. His ignorance is astounding, with none of the personality to make up for it.
I far prefer to watch the Sky version for the commentary team.

        • Oh, new news to me!

I will have to go thru the iPlayer next and see what happens.

    • Yes, most full races live (10 or so) and the rest are highlights, shown an hour or two after the race.

  • +4

I've been with these guys since the 12 months for $12 deals.

    I'm a very happy customer.

    • Hi Miso,

Great to hear! When our new features are released you will be even happier :D

      Thanks.

      • +2

Rep, do you/will you support multiple IP addresses on the one account (at least up to 3 like dns4me)?
We have two internet services at home and I occasionally use smartDNS at work.
Will you offer an export of dnsmasq/hosts files?

        • Hi Lukian,

At the moment this is not available. However, we are adding more services this year. You can read what is going to be offered @ https://uflix.com.au/uflix-v2/

          Thanks.

        • @uFlix:

          <From the blog Post>

We have taken your feedback and suggestions on board and have started working on a new architecture for uFlix. It is a very complex and powerful new system, so we would like to quickly run down the features and changes that will happen in the future and what the future of uFlix will be.

          1. uFlix will not be called uFlix anymore. We believe the name is too restrictive as “v2″ will have more than geo-unblocking on offer. Rest assured, it will still be the same company, with the same staff.

          2. VPN – We will be adding a full-VPN service to our system as an optional addon. However, the way we are going to be implementing this feature is unique in its own way. We are going to focus on speed and security with it. This means no logging of any user data at all. It also means it is going to be fast. Really, really fast.

          3. Apps – We are creating iOS, Android, Windows and Mac apps. These apps will have two functions. smartDNS (auto IP update and region selection), and VPN region selection. This is really great for users who wish for their IP to automatically update without needing to log in to the uFlix website.

          4. DynDNS support – For those of you who wish to use dyndns to keep your IP automatically updated, we will have support for this too.

          5. Forums – We will also be adding a tech community. This will allow members to talk about tech related things, as well as some other discussion forums.

          6. More Channels – We are also going to be adding support for more channels with our smartDNS service. Over time, this list will grow larger and larger.

          7. More Options – In your uFlix control panel, we will be adding support for more region selectors for things like your smart TV, media player, etc. This gives you more control over your home set up.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us by purchasing a subscription. We will release updates as we get new sections complete.

          Thank you,
          uFlix Team.

        • +2

I'd like this too. My ADSL connection is crap but good enough for the kids to stream netflix cartoons, trouble with Getflix at the moment is I cant then use my mobile hotspot (on vodafone unlimited data weekends) to stream what I want from netflix even though I pay netflix for 2 streams Getflix only allows 1 IP at a time.

        • @uFlix: I'd be interested to see how the per device region setting works (household complains when I change netflix to UK) :p

        • @uFlix: Great deal, but limp when netflix account is 4 connections, but this is just 1. :(

Love to see maybe a smarter solution (or info?) That explains what happens/benefits to multiple streams through the one house. Ie: if you put proxy in the modem, do you get 4 unblocked services in the one house? A simple table would be great.

        • @Utopian:

          Hi Utopian,

It supports unlimited connections on the same network.

          Thanks.

  • +1

    hi rep/ozbargain,

I'm a smartDNS (?) n00b. Serious question - I'm wondering if I updated my home DNS settings and left them like that, can/would uFlix track my non-uFlix downloads? i.e.: the websites I visit, the torrents I have running in the background, etc.

    • +4

      Hi Uncharted,

Absolutely not. We HATE invasion of privacy. In fact, we outline this in our privacy policy. We hate it so much that we felt obligated to start working on VPN services due to the stupid new data-retention laws.

Your privacy is important. We will never track or log what you access as part of our service. The only time we do this is for certain cases where you may need support, and even then, we get your permission first, and you are required to use a special test-DNS server we have set up for special cases like that.

      Thanks.

      • Glad to read, rep. Cheers!

        • +8

Sure it is. We simply find ways around law. As an example, technical legal loopholes, or even moving different services to different countries. At the moment not keeping logs is legal, and we will continue to do just that.

      • -1

Great. Means Netflix for all regions and torrents without notices from your ISP provider !!

        • +1

          Hi Gaggy,

Our service does not do that. It will only trick Netflix, hulu and BBC. Any other activity you do does NOT go through us, so your connection will still be the same as it is now.

          Thanks.

        • @uFlix: Got it. So we might have to get two VPNs. One for Netflix and other for torrents.

        • +4

          @Gaggy:

          Hi Gaggy,

I would like to quickly explain the difference between the two services.

smartDNS - This will hide your IP for only unblocked channels, and even then, it won't hide it completely. This is to ensure you get the fastest speed possible when downloading the stream.

VPN - This will give you maximum security and hide your online activity. However, it will also send all traffic through it, and your streaming will take a slight speed hit.

They are different services, even though they can ultimately unblock channels. One is made for users who want maximum available speed for their movies, the other is for users who want their activity to remain anonymous.

          Thanks.

        • @uFlix: Correct me if I'm wrong but the future VPN option WILL make all traffic go through uFlix right? If so, isn't Gaggy right if he intends to use the VPN option?

        • @Bernie_G:

          Hi Bernie_G,

We are going to have two options.

          1. smartDNS
          2. VPN

You will be able to switch between the services. So, if you are using your VPN, yes, all traffic will be going through it. However, if it is turned off, it will default back to smartDNS.

          Thanks.

        • @uFlix: Thanks. I also just re-read your blog post copy/paste. You mention the VPN will be an "optional addon". Does that mean it will cost extra or do you mean it's optional whether you use it or not?

        • @Bernie_G:

          Hi Barnie_G,

Basically you will have two payment choices.

          1. smartDNS (what uFlix currently offers, except more channels).
          2. VPN (A very powerful VPN service which will also include smartDNS for free).

          Thanks.

        • @uFlix: I cannot see VPN option in your website. Can you advise the pricing on that please?

        • +1

@Gaggy: It's not out yet, it's going to be in the new v2 of the website later this year.

        • @Gaggy:

          Hi Gaggy,

We do not currently have a VPN option. We are working on a new framework for our system and it will be available late this year.

          Thanks.

    • +1

They could, in theory. But then, so could your ISP and government agencies etc etc.

edit: There we go, they don't keep logs. So that's a bonus.

      • Thanks. Pretty much because of ISPs and government agencies, I'm a bit paranoid of layering on yet another party and compounding my risks further.

        • +1

Using a DNS service like this is not a tangible risk, in my opinion.

But then I like to change settings on a device level, rather than blanket my whole network at the modem/router level. As such, I buy devices that let me do that (Apple TV, WD Live, etc).

This looks a good deal, and well worth it as the US catalogue is so much better. Let alone all the other possible services you could pick up too. And the OP seems very proactive, so extra points there.

edit: If work didn't insist on running IE8 for the next fifty years i'd upvote it. But as with most things, the button doesn't work for this archaic browser…

        • @Yekul:

It's potentially much more risky than metadata retention. They could collect every domain name you requested/visited (and associated this directly with your customer account), not just the IP address of the remote web server which could be shared by multiple domains. They could onsell this to marketing firms or other purposes.

I'm not saying it happens but it's definitely a risk.

        • @dazweeja:

          Hi daweeja,

We outline in our Privacy Policy what we do and do not collect. We respect peoples privacy and are against data-retention. We do not log, view or access users browsing habits or anything they access.

          Thanks.

  • +2

Switching Netflix regions with these guys is an absolute breeze. Definitely recommend!

    • Thank you very much!

  • Will it work on Samsung TV, I access netflix from Samsung TV, xbox and apple tv. Will uflix work on any of these device? or doess it only works on PC?

    • Xbox and Apple TV are both officially supported. Samsung TV's are not officially supported, however the service does work on existing customers Samsung TV's. But please try before buying just to make sure it will work on yours.

      Thanks.

  • +2

Been using this service since the last deal and no issues, pretty simple to use too.

    • Hi happychild100,

Glad to hear it is going well for you :)

      Thanks.

    Great service and great support….

    Well worth it

    • Hi andy19363,

      Thank you very much!

      Thanks.

  • Hi rep - do we need any other hardware. I am planning to use chromecast to play the videos from netflix (if you have an app) then project it to my TV. Can you please confirm if this will work? TA

    • Hi coolhead,

Chromecast hijacks the DNS. You will need to follow this workaround in order to get it to work, and some routers will not support this. https://uflix.com.au/troubleshooting/

It is worth your while giving the service a quick test first and see if it is suitable for you. Then you can make your purchase if you believe it is something you would use.

      Thanks.

      • Thanks, will give it a shot

        • Great :) If you run in to any issues, please open a support ticket.

          Thanks.

    • +2

Streaming to Chromecast is fine for AU Netflix. However with foreign Netflix's, in addition to what the Rep said, another workaround is to stream the tab to chromecast, rather than Netflix itself. This is what I prefer to do as the Netflix pc (app) doesn't seem to do auto continue play when watching tv shows.

    • I think chromecast has inbuilt dns so you might need to update your router..
