I'm seeing a price of $39.99 on the website the OP linked to - how do you get it down to $20 ?
The link is to Bauhn site. Aldi does not have any product page for this.
Just edit the post to say "Instore - Hurstville, NSW" or something similar :-)
Then put a quick explanation that the link is for reference/specs/whatever…
The link gives the impression that the website is selling at a discount.
(at least for me it did)
Sorry mate. JSQUARED already updated the post.
As usual it will vary from store to store.
If it is a store specific deal, it might be nice for the OP to tell us which store ;-)
Hurstville NSW. Will take a photo when I get back.
jpl, you should posted the deal with reference/proof. Currently it is not a deal as it is not in all the Aldi stores and link is showing 50% more price. This deal will be negged soon without proper information.
Thanks jpl :-)
No need for a photo, I'm sure most people will have no reason to distrust you, it's just that if it is instore people need to know WHICH store, because Aldi have different clearance prices at different stores and/or may not even have stock…
Perhaps people can list the stores they find it at to help people out who are interested ?!?
Thanks for trusting me. Glad that I don't need to proof myself in court for dishonesty. ;-)
Please add store location to title until confirmed available at other locations at 50% off.
if this connects via wifi to your tablet, then it means your internet wifi connection on your tablet will be lost right? so you can not stream direct from internet unless you have 3G or it has been already downloaded to your tablet.
No, it goes via your router. No internet loss.
It is not possible to run it in AD-HOC mode (direct from device to dongle).
so does it mean: dongle connected to wifi, tablet connected to wifi, control dongle by tablet through wifi? so is there a direct connection between dongle and tablet?
No, all traffic from your phone to dongle will flow through your router.
I bought one of these a few weeks back. Very poor - poor video streaming quality and poor audio streaming (over AirPlay). Took it straight back. Save your time and $$s.
Thanks for saving me the trouble. I figured this would probably be the case…
I quite agree with that comment. I didn't notice a bad quality in the streaming but the features are not great. It can be useful for mirroring, that's all.
Also, it has a weird configuration, you have to connect to the dongle and not your router. Then you get access to your internet via the dongle.
The issue is that the dongle is using WEP, and WEP has been hacked (so not secured…)
I read a few years back WEP can be cracked in under 30 seconds with the right tool. It's not a safe protocol to use at all.
The unit posted here is using WPA2
I bought a couple of generic HDMI mirroring dongles (i.e. Miracast) years ago, and found them less than optimal. The reasons being:
- You have to connect to a specific WiFi direct network (which is annoying to switch back/forth)
- The models I had specifically only output 720p (but were advertised as 1080p)
- And they just sucked in terms of performance - basically the screen would often jitter or just freeze completely (even though my mobile was literally a metre away, and got worse as the distance increased)
Granted my units were probably a different brand, and this was a long time ago. However based on my experiences I would recommend people steer away from these devices.
Once I got my Chromecast it was a completely different experience (when using the equivalent Miracast functionality).
Now you're mileage may vary, and it will depend on your network and wireless router performance. In my case I've got the Chromecast on 802.11g, and routing to my mobile on 802.11n (and it's all WPA2). Screen update is fast and with very low latency. Furthermore I'm able to do things like run Google Cardboard, and mirror the screen to my Chromecast so you can see what they're looking at.
Given the price of a Chromecast, and considering the additional stuff it does, I don't think there is a market for these cheap and nasty units anymore.
Nice summary, but remember with Aldi, you got 60 days to return it if you are not satisfied.
Just opened the unit and tested.
Two connection modes,
a) Phone —-> UNIT ——-> Router ——> Internet
b) Phone —-> Router <——-UNIT
Must use EZCAST software to configure.
EZCast software has a lot of features, for details check here https://www.iezvu.com/ the software need polishing, the same as Chromecast apk.
Mirroring from Win 8.1 laptop works perfectly, TV appears as a) duplicate b) extended or c) standalone
Below are the photos, if need PROOF,
Mirroring from laptop watching Youtube HD 1080 test video
Mirroring from Nokia 1520 reading news
Giant 40" Windows from mirrored from Nokia 1520
Hope this help you decide what expectation you might have.
EDIT: Forgot to say, when phone or laptop goes to sleep, the Mirroring connection also terminates, looks like the host (phone + laptop) is causing this. If you know a workaround please post.
Cheers
Thanks for the review(s).
Can you try it with your Android and let us know how well that works?
Check point 9 above, thanks.
None at Maroubra, hope there are some left because I am heading over to Hurstville shortly.
Edit: 3 left after I bought 1.
1 left!
Good News Arndell Park and Seven Hills still have them
Bad News they are still around $40
Arndell park they weren't in the glass cabinet I had to ask after them
Seven Hills had 10 units on display in the glass cabinet
are there any half price ones around Blacktown and surrounds
not bad for $20 …as long as it works as intended
