Keep in mind the price of Surface Pro 3 is being re-adjusted for the fall in the AUD early May so you won't see these prices again for a while.

      • This. And every other PC vendor this upcoming winter.

Yep, definitely buy now. Trent may wish to add this news to the OP.

        As seen on Whirlpool…

Due to changes in the relative value of international currencies, Microsoft is adjusting the price of Surface Pro 3 within your market. The purpose of this communication is to alert you to this upcoming adjustment, and to explain how we will manage these changes with our pricing programs.
The price of Surface Pro 3 will increase in your market, and the change will be effective May 4, 2015. From Microsoft

        Surface Pro 3:

        PFAM RRP
Current New $ Incr % Incr
        i3 4/64 $ 979 $ 1,149 $ 170 17%
        i5 4/128 $ 1,209 $ 1,399 $ 190 16%

        i7 8/512 $ 2,279 $ 2,699 $ 420 18%

        • On the other hand, a reason to wait is that the Surface Pro 4 will likely be announced at Microsoft Build Conference (April 29 - May 1).

          Likely - not definitely.
          Announced - not released.

It's always nice to know what you'll miss out on.

That still leaves a weekend window of opportunity before price rises.

Anyone looking at the Sherwood Turntable please note that it's a 'Full Manual' TT meaning it's basically just a box with a 2-speed spinning platter, a tonearm and a start/stop switch. This means that unlike semi-auto or full-auto TTs you will have to lift and drop the tonearm yourself (can be fun after a few drinks) plus there's no auto-return so if left unattended the stylus will just fly across the paper label and sit there scratching away until it's rescued. Although they sound perfectly OK for most I'd personally class this as a 'DJ' Turntable, not a 'Hifi' tuntable. Just my 2c.

    • The vast majority of 'hifi' turntables are manual. Not that many semi or full auto ones made these days.

That Sherwood shouldn't be classed as a DJ turntable. No belt drive should be. Ever!

The only TT they have worth considering IMO is the pioneer. New to the market. Supposed to be excellent for DJs and and hifi use.

      • Fair call. I'm more into vintage gear and my 'customers' appreciate the automatic TTs so much more. I've had some rip through their stylus in a matter of months and damage their valuable LPs all because they were using full manual TTs when they probably shouldn't be ;) A fully auto TT fixed all their problems!

        • learning to use the arm lift lever would also fix their problems.

        • @watts: Ha yeah, if the TT has a lever of course and that still doesn't address the auto-return woes.

  • Incredible price for the XDJ-RX DJ Controller. It only just came out.

can you take student discount off on top of the 10% sale?

    • No, I've already asked, also asked a Microsoft rep on their website.

  • A little help, please? :)

I'm looking to replace my cumbersome desktop with something portable that I can plug in at home to my 27" monitor, keyboard, external drives and such. It will mainly be a stay-at-home.

I need some processing power for InDesign and Photoshop, games don't matter (well, not on PC!)

I'm tossing up between the Surface Pro 3 i7 with the crazy-expensive dock and the Acer Aspire S7.

The main disadvantage I can see with the S7 is having to plug/unplug things in all over the place, as there's no native dock and things like the Toshiba Dynadock have very mixed reviews. Otherwise, I really like the look and features of the S7.

Please, does anybody have any real world experience using either of these as mainly a desktop alternative? Thanks. :)

They're two quite different products as one is an Ultrabook and the other is a convertible Tablet so you can't really compare… BUT I've helped many colleagues buy a Surface Pro 3 over the last 4-5 months and every one of them loves it to bits! The fact you can use it as a pure Tablet without a keyboard attached seems to be the biggest reason for their joy so I suppose if that's an important feature then go for the Surface but if not then maybe the Aspire S7 is a good alternative but only if you can get it for a lot less IMO!

      • Cheers for the reply. :)

They wouldn't be that different when parked at my desk most of the time, and I'm thinking without the even more $$$s Surface keyboard it would be less useful when I do occasionally go portable.

I can get the 2560x1440 resolution Acer for ~$1700, but it isn't the S7-393 which doesn't seem to have come to Australia.
