  • Good price, now if someone have a coupon code…

  • Chinese phones are now coming out with Octa cores.

    • +1

yes but this is an intel atom processor

      • +1

        which is pretty crappy

Here's the GSMArena test & review (crappy camera results & ok battery)
        http://www.gsmarena.com/asus_zenfone_2_ze551ml-review-1240.p…

        Here's the benchmark part..compares with the Lg G3 & Note 3
        http://www.gsmarena.com/asus_zenfone_2_ze551ml-review-1240p5…

        • +4

I am not so sure that benchmarks always reflect real-life performance. Intel processors are very different, and these benchmarks probably do not reflect their qualities, because they are tuned towards a different type of CPU.

        • +4

Just for the record the review and benchmarks you linked are not for this model

They state on the first page

"The one we have at the office is the ZE551ML with the lower-specced hardware, meaning an Atom Z3560 and 2 gigs of RAM."

This is the 4Gb version with a completely different processor.

Not saying it'll be heaps better but I would expect a marked improvement.

        • +2

          @geekboy:
You're right about the RAM (although I'm not sure the jump between 2->4Gb will show in the benchmarks)

But the CPU is a "Quad Core 1.8G" just like the one on the tests. Or if you check DWI's specs it also says "ZenFone 2 ZE551ML is powered by an up to 1.8GHz 64-bit Intel® Atom™ Z3560 processor "

The Taiwan (32Gb) model has the 2.4Ghz CPU, but not the Chinese version.

        • @supabrudda:

          is taiwan not chinese?

        • +4

          they're Taiwanese :)

        • -4

          @salingpusa: no they're not.

        • -2

          @duodeta: no theyre not.

Taiwan version has B28(700Mhz), this doesn't
it also has the 2.3Ghz CPU, this doesn't
It also states in the description it's the HK version, not the Taiwan version

          Asus HK specs

          Asus TW specs
          http://store.asus.com/tw/item/201503AM060000048/A23660

Note the CPU & 4G/LTE bands are different.

        • @supabrudda:

You're right I never noticed that, thought there was only one 4Gb version and that had the Z3580.

That's a shame I was tempted to get this even though I don't really like phones over 5" :(

  • Thanks for the Bands, now to check if Optus 3G/4G can work on it

    • You need band 28 for the fast 4gx in Australia. So not this phone.

    • Primary B3 and all 3G get the tick. for DSDA, [non-jewelry].
+up to 30 MHz +10 MHzwhen talking useful unli- weekend

  • Good phone for price and looks good too. I purchased one a few weeks back works great on optus nearly full bars all the time. On Telstra it seems to be low on bars alot but it works fine too. Biggest problem is Some apps don't seem to work they just crash. Most notable app that doesn't work is Instagram.

    • +1

root and install market helper. fewer x86 apps for android than arm but instagram should work. also look into houdini.

    • I have the original zenfone 6 and it has the same issue, I assume it's some code that just doesn't run correctly on the x86 processor. They're good phones, but the app crashing issue can get annoying. I was waiting to see if the Zenfone 2 had the same issue - and you've answered my question.

Personally, I would buy an ARM based phone until this issue is resolved.

    • disregard just saw it's lollipop and same tools might not work

  • is 700Mhz a miss in rural areas? seems that 850mHz is a good one

  • +2

B28(700) is the missing band which what Optus & Telstra are rolling out nationally with their faster 4G speeds (it's like the NextG/900Mhz rollout for 3G).

    Telstra
    B1,B3, B7, B8, B28 (B28 is for 4GX speeds)

    Optus
    B1, B3, B7, B28, B40, B42

    Voda
    B3 & B5

  • Band 3, Band 5 - almost Y550's big brother. Natural fit for vodafone. Try and beat a 108oP monitor, taken on unmetered internet. All the better it roams onto 3G900 (Optus,[aside from rural T]).

  • +2

dual active sim is a plus for me, most dual sim phones out there are dual standby.

  • Second sim slot is 2G-only.

  • battery is unchangeable without the right equipment. I have just purchased this as it is a good price for a great flagship phone. check out this link if you're looking to buy this phone.

  • +1

Anyone can confirm the ram is 4gb? GSM arena says 4GB ram one come with Intel Z3580, not Z3560 and 2.4ghz processor.

    • -2

you're right, and only the 64GB capacity has 4GB RAM

      • +1

Would skip if only 2GB RAM, I need a good phone with dual sim to replace my LG G2 and Note 3, maybe will wait for Note 5 to come out.

        • 1GB to 2GB was less of a performance boost anecdotally than I was hoping for. 2GB to 3GB was unnoticeable for my usage which includes an hour a day minimum of gaming. I wouldn't pay any extra for a 4GB phone as it seems pointless.

        • My LG G2 which have 2GB ram does sometimes lag compare to my Note 3 that have 3GB ram, I guess android needs a lot of ram to run background applications, so more ram should run smoother.

    • Raised it with the rep on the live chat they are getting in contact with the supplier think its the base model

    • The GSM arena isn't quite right (due to Asus's stupidly lumping about 5 hardware variations under the same model number)

I believe China, HK & India version, has the 1.8Ghz cpu for the 2/16Gb, 2/32Gb, 4/32Gb…then the 2.3Ghz for the 4/64Gb version

where as the Taiwan version has 1.8 for 2/16Gb & 2/32Gb then the 2.3Ghz for the 4/32Gb & 4/64Gb versions

There's a whole billion page thread on WP…but on this page someone explains the different models/countries
      http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?r=46634945#…

      • so what version is the one in this link is it false advertisement ?

        • +1

No, I think the specs might be right (4Gb/32Gb, 1.8Ghz CPU)
But it's not the Taiwan version, so it doesn't have B28(700Mhz) nor does it have the 2.3Ghz CPU
Some 4/32Gb models have the 2.3Ghz CPU, like Taiwan & Europe, but other areas don't

          Here's the official HK specs
          http://store.asus.com/hk/item/201503AM310000296/A25874

    • i was on chat with them and this is what they said…

I have just received the confirmation that the Asus Zenfone 2 ZE551ML Quad Core 1.8GHz/4G RAM/32GB Dual Sim 4G (Unlocked) Mobile Phones comes in different versions in different regions and the 4GB RAM models aer available in both the Intel® Atom™ Quad Core Z3580 (2.3GHz), PowerVR G6430, with OpenGL 3.0 support and Intel® Atom™ Quad Core Z3560 (1.8GHz), PowerVR G6430, with OpenGL 3.0 support.

      • Yes so which model are they selling the not as good spec model ?

        • that would be the 16gb storage 2gb ram model.

        • @dashmacad:

No they are selling the HK 1.8ghz 4gb ram 32gb storage model

        • @darkreign: oh sorry i read the question wrong. Yeah they are selling the one who just said.

would rather pay $399 for a Sony Z2 with local warranty of 24 months

    • +1

Would rather not have a cracked screen.

      • -1

If you have a hairline crack not as your fault, Sony now would replace the screen for you, also, this is Au stock that comes with 24 months of warranty, shall we worry too much?

        • When did Sony say they were now fixing screens? Last I heard they still haven't addressed the issue and are not replacing screens.

    • Ud need the warranty with the quality of sony products

  • +2

Australia needs more dual sim phones.

Is there an issue that prevents proper dual-sim (not 2G and not standby)? Or is it just that manufacturers are cheap. Because from a consumer perspective, an extra $50 on a typical $400-$600 spend is not a big deal.

  • Reading through the comments I'm confused as to why people would go for this device and not an ARM flavoured Android. This does not seem to be a standout device compared to similar priced competition and it has the massive disadvantage of the apps crapshoot situation (apps crashing, failing to work etc).

I wouldn't consider this device unless it was heavily discounted from this price.

    • +1

      Whats your alternative suggestion ??

      • +2

IMHO the LG G3 d855 (3Gb/32Gb) from one of the many HK shops is pretty good value for ~$470.
But if you wait a month the new LG, Sony will launch & last years flagship devices will be cheap.

I wonder if there really are many issues with apps, or it's just people using restore from a backup, rather then downloading from PlayStore and that's the issue. But if you wait a month you'll soon find out!

        • +1

I have the lg g3 myself. One big letdown is the battery life is probably one of the worst ive ever had. The high res screen (completely unnecessary) saps alot of power even with lower brightness. The zenfone 2 has longer battery life due to the lower res screen and good mah battery.

The zenfone 2 also outperforms the g3. I am selling my g3 to an online company for $290 and upgrading to the zenfone listed here for $60 changeover completely worth it in my circumstance

If someone else was doing a similar thing i wouldnt recommend upgrading to the g3. its in no way worth the extra money

This one only has 2GB RAM
The second SIM is only 2G

    • +1

      Wrong

    • -1

Both sims have 3G and this one is obviously 2GB of RAM only

      • +1

WRONG. Sim 1 had 4G/3G/2G. Sim 2 has 2G only.

        • Ok I'm sure sim2 is 2g but not sure about 2gb ram might be a special version with 4gb ram

        • @pal: probs 2gb on both versions

    • http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/astore/Asus-Zenfone-2-ZE… 4gb one?

Hello, thank you for contacting DWI. My name is Jane.

Yes, as stated on our listing, the stock we have is the 4GB RAM model with Intel® Atom™ Quad Core Z3560.

      • Tnx, I could guess it might be 4gb but I wish you asked about sim2. I think it's 2g
