These are not real 3G, but like all those cheap Chinese tablets are "3G ready".
Do you need a really old 3G USB stick to be compatible, or do they all work the same, with USB-serial port and AT-modem emulation?
Might even work with 4G?
A better use for these is as a travel router, if you stay at hotels etc with ethernet ports and no wifi. (getting scarce too?)
you need a stick on their HCL
these things are niche and if they work in your situaton well, good
but for 90% of people they dont have a use
Be aware this just a 1 port wireless router with support for USB 3G modems
Cheaper here too, http://www.megabuy.com.au/d-link-dir-412-3g35g-portable-mobiā¦
Postage is cheaper as well (in my case).
Collecting dust in my shelving - waste of money.
DIR-412 has multiple security vulnerabilities http://goo.gl/UZRGN4
Hacking can reset the DIR-412 to default. Happened to mine recently, so am not using as a router again.
However DIR-412 may be usable as an airplay receiver http://goo.gl/eQ3fEx
i thought it is battery powered … but apparently not :(
Talk about a blast from the past - these were $16.83 for 2 back in February 2013 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/94606).
