Cheap but Ultra- thin? What is the fill quantity? (should be stated by law)

    • not sure on quantity, but it must be the bare minimum. this doesn't keep you that warm by itself, up to -5 C maybe. anything below -10 C and you should probably be looking at Columbia for jackets.

      90% Down 10% Feather
      650 Lock
Suitable for temperatures from 15 degrees c to 5 degrees c
Can be rolled into a small packing bag as well for storage

    • I bought one when I was in Nagoya in January as I was going to spend a week in Takayama and had no proper jacket for it. It was an average of -5C for the week and even spent a day in Shiwakawago where it was -12C and it kept me nice and warm with a thermal shirt underneath

I bought one of these when I was in Tokyo in early Februrary. I wore it around Japan for a month with a t-shirt and light jumper underneath and never felt cold. The jacket appears to be of excellent quality and at least somewhat rain-resistant (never had it on in the pouring rain). It's super comfy and ridiculously light. It can squish up into a tiny little bag that it came with so you can take it anywhere without it taking up a lot of space.

  • Note that these jackets are the old version. A new rain-resistant version has been released in Japan.

    • Uh, these ones are also water-resistant (they use 'water-repellent'). I'm not discounting what you say about a new version, though.

      • I probably should've said "more rain-resistant" then. At least that's how it's marketed on the Japanese website.

Interestingly, the Japanese "old version" uses polyester linings whereas the Australian version uses nylon. Probably cutting corners?

Probably the versions, I bought my jacket in Japan (Spring 2014 on sale, so I suspect Winter 2014 runout sale) and I can see it's nylon as well.

For those interested/care, these jackets are made in China.

"these jackets are made in China"

Was given this as a gift from Japan, 3990 yen so same price. Quality is very good really light and you won't look like a marshmallow because it's not too thick.

Good price, bought these in Japan at the same discounted price before my trip to Tateyama mountain to see the ice tunnel. I was warm, toasty and dry despite the snow and rain. These come with a small bag about 10 x 4-5 cm cylinder and you can roll and fit these jackets/vests into the bag, so they don't take up a lot of luggage space. The material is water repellent/resistant, so water mostly slide off but won't survive prolonged heavy rain (bought a rain jacket for that purpose).

The only thing I wasn't too fond of is finding the bits of feather/down sticking out from time to time. This is apparently a normal thing for down vests/jackets.

    • this is indeed a common affliction with down wear!

    • Well men get the ULD in red and women don't so that's just mean.

  • These are great for people into ultralight hiking - I've been looking for a decently priced one for ages! Thanks OP!

  • Thought it was only for sale online but also in-store. Bought one and it keeps me warm.
