  • This is the cheapest DAB+ digital radio available I have seen. Especially for the first time under $100. These were originaly retailing around $129 last month when I last looked. So DAB+ prices have definately come down. Good to see this is also a model that can be run on batteries. Price reduction is probably due to the poor takeup of digital receivers.

  • wow i hope this is an indication to come rather than an immediate one-off savings. DAB isnt exactly taking Australia by storm (unlike, say the PS3 slim)

0.70kg ??? Too big and heavy. I can't put this in my pocket like an iPhone.

      • Dimensions: 169 long x 151 wide x 123mm high

What made you think this was pocket sized?

  • I got this exact one for my grandma for $88 the other week, and she seems to like it. The only problem was she went on a camping trip and because the radio only accepts FM and DAB+ broadcasts she was unable to listen to AM radio.

    • Crazy not to include AM receivers in the the design of digital radios when the components would be $1.

      • It is already built in according to this:

Q: Can I receive AM and FM on my new digital radio?
Digital radios will come in a range of different models. To ensure your radio receives digital radio services in Australia it must be DAB+ enabled. In DAB+ mode, radios will receive stations previously referred to as AM and FM on the one platform. There is also the option to listen in analogue FM mode should you need to. Look for the DAB+ enabled logo on the product pack or in store.

        • i imagine reception areas for digital AM stations is not as broad as analogue AM?

          • @colblair: Sorry if this is a long one folks.

Q: When will I be able to receive digital radio in other areas outside Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth?
Commercial Radio Australia (CRA) has already started planning the digital radio rollout in other areas throughout Australia. A regional trial of digital radio will commence later this year and CRA is calling on the Federal Government to allocate VHF Band III spectrum in regional areas for the rollout of digital radio services across Australia so regional broadcasters can start real planning.

        • Digital AM maybe available but why can't they incorporate an AM analogue circuit with a switch. Esp for this digital changeover period it would make sense. As I mentioned you can buy a cheap AM radio for a few dollars so it doesn't cost much compared to the premium price on digital radios and it would be a good selling point if they want to get more people buying them. No different to digital TVs/receivers that also have analogue tuners as a fallback for stations yet to convert (Ch31) or areas with crap digital reception.
