Return Flights to Tokyo Narita $546 (OOL) $519 (PER) $644.77 (SYD) $640.77 (MEL) with AirAsia

160

Hi everyone, this deal has been posted in different form a couple of days ago but not sure if people were aware of the value on offer. Usual flights to Japan are about $1000-1200, bar the usual Jetstar sale in November. I picked random dates in February however the flying period is 1 September 2015 to 31 May 2016, so a massive range of flights and availability!

The costs in the title are based on return flights to Kuala Lumpur from each Australian destination and then a return flight from KUL to Tokyo Narita.

Alternatively for those of you in Sydney and Melbourne (as well as Adelaide, I feel ya) you could nab a cheap flight to the Gold Coast and go from there.

Just have to make sure to book ASAP, pay with PayPal and pay in MYR for the KUL-NRT leg. You will have to pay a $10 processing fee per passenger for that leg, this is included in the price quoted.

The prices listed are not the cheapest available - just the cheapest I could still find with a bit of searching. If you look carefully at different date ranges there are still better deals available than what I listed!

Luggage is approximately $30-$40 each leg for 20kg. So Add $140 if you need checkin luggage, otherwise share with whoever you're travelling with or just go with 7kg and a laptop bag (anything that fits under the seat in front of you).

Happy travels!

Also note once you're in KUL there are a host of different Asian destinations at great prices. Enjoy.

    Nice one - good find.

    • Cheers :)

  • Sounds right. Made the trip last year from Melbourne, we paid $658 including taxes per person with a one night layover in KL city.

    • How much was the layover tho?

      • Had a large serviced apartment suite for 2 adults at one of the Parkroyals in Bukit Bintang. Cost us $100 for the night.

The layover was accidental, AirAsia cancelled the Saturday night flight from Mel that I had bought. Called them up and they changed my MEL-KL leg to one night earlier, no charge. We were willing to stay and pay for a day in KL and caught up with a few friends.

  • After going through all the add ons it didn't look like a great deal to me. Consider this is two flights to get there, so double the add on cost. Also consider the 6 hour-ish layover.

Still if you go without the add ons then not a bad deal.

Getting the return price looked difficult. I did consider booking one way, and waiting for a deal on the return.

    • Well for me I paid $470 return without luggage, if I want to take my skis that goes to $500. I'll take that any day.

The fares that come on sale in November will probably beat these by $100 or so, but this gives you security to book accom etc.

We paid $770 each return on Cathay Pacific for flights in November including 2 nights in HK on the way back - Perth-Tokyo then Osaka-HK-Perth on the way back. This was for our choice of flight times, there were cheaper deals for bad flight times. Connections are excellent too with 1.5 hour layovers only, and plenty of additional flights if connection is missed. Obviously also includes luggage, meals and entertainment…

At the time, we could get sale fares from Jetstar which only worked out slightly cheaper once luggage was added (it would probably come out the same if we added meals and entertainment), for a less comfortable plane and very long layovers. You might be better off looking for a sale from a full service carrier which is better value overall IMO.

I just can't, after all the recent happenings with low cost carriers..

Then go surf a different site, not OzB. What a ridiculous reason to neg this deal.

  • Awesome deal for that price. Last time i went to Japan with Air Asia was in Feb. Only annoying thing is that you need to transit in KL like OP said. We had to walk a long walk from the plane to the next boarding area. No transportation given, however you get a sight on how the staffs treat peoples luggage XD. It took forever to get through custom and it was bloody hot. Had no where to go while waiting at the transit area, weren't even allowed to go out and shop around either ==".

That's just my Air Asia transit experience at KL. But yeah, this is cheap compared to the Cathy deal i bought to Japan for November :)

That old terminal was the dumps. Thankfully they have a more snazzy brick and mortar, modern terminal now at KLIA2.
