OzBargain AMA Requests? Who Do You Want to Know More about?

AMA or Ask Me Anything, is a Reddit Sub dedicated to getting celebrities, interesting people, people with interesting jobs, those who were at some event etc. to answer unfiltered questions from its users. It's hugely popular and everyone from Obama to Elon Musk have participated.

Well, Scott (OzBargain owner) did one recently for Savvysme and there was a bit of discussion about having some AMAs here on OzBargain.

Personally, I think it would be interesting to get an AMA from some users like jv or easternculture. I'd also like to see reps and I suggested Gerry Harvey (probably unlikely to say yes), Gabbi from CatchoftheDay (The head guy) or the Checkout team.

It would also be interesting to get some people with interesting jobs like the person in charge of changing prices on say Officeworks.

I think we are going to do some test runs with Scott in the hot seat first. If it proves popular, we'll program something a bit more AMA friendly.

        I love Waters / vote we get Waters to do it. It's true she often posts a tad TMI (as do I), and is very often a bit too indulgent of straight up dip-shits (which I could never be accused of), but hey; that's part of her "ever tolerant/ non-judgemental charm". I reckon she'd be a great candidate. One thing I would request if she is chosen though, is that she supply a complete list of the acronyms she plans to use in the session, and their definitions. I very often find deciphering Waters' posts harder than solving the cryptic-crossword in the daily paper, in that respect. And I'm talkin' the one in the AGE, not the Herald Sun. A hypothetical example of a response from Waters to a question is:

        "TBH neil, AFAIK there's NHS and my GYO isn't a TSP, IMHO, so DMC is not a HSGGJKX. But WTFKs; maybe one day?

        So we'd need to be supplied with a "translation sheet" beforehand. She'd be grouse though. Go on Waters, I dare you to do it. Relative anonymity is over-rated. I know that DEEP DOWN you crave the spot-light, and ultimate fame ;P

          @GnarlyKnuckles: Turnip posts from a modest palette of the more reasonable abbreviations and acronyms. I've read far too much on twit, tum and insta to not get most of them at this point. Occasionally, when one doesn't dawn immediately, it tends to do so while I'm punching the letters in to do a search.

          Maybe, if turnip starts to get passive-aggressive towards everyone on OzBargain, she'll start to invent stuff that not even the good folk at the urban dictionary can help out with.

          Interspersed between (very dainty I'm sure) alphabet burps, maniacal laughter may well at some point ring out from the VTL.

    Mr Squiggle

    I'd like to ask him if he was ever tempted to "push the boundaries" a bit in his pictures, re, erm, "risqueness"… I mean, god knows "Miss Jane" stacked on the inuendo rather frequently…

    Fat-Cat

    I'd like to ask what happened to this once iconic feline of 1970s fame. Unlike "Mr Squiggle", even Fat-Cat's gender was never entirely clear. His/Her death has never been announced, thus I assume that Fat-Cat remains alive to this day, somewhere. I'd just like to ask FC; what are you doing now? Are you a Tabby, or a Shazzy? Did you ever actually get your weight under control? Or was it never even an issue for you?

    I’d like to ask her where she’s been hiding for the 20 years or so, and why. If it has anything to do with the frog, I’d like to reassure her that there’d be plenty of peeps ‘on her side’. I mean, he come across all lovable and… well, ‘green’ and all, but maybe there’s a dark-green side? That’s the sort of stuff I’d be asking ‘Ms P’ in an AMA session.

    This poor, under-appreciated beast seems to have been cast aside and forgotten by “prime-time” TV, very 'fickly', relatively soon after his inception a few decades ago. Like so many "child-stars" of the era. I actually would’ve expected more from Big Bird. Why didn’t he stick up more for his friend and loyal companion? I guess once Mr Snuffleupagus “came out”, ever-loyal Barkly became somewhat obsolete?
    It has always just seemed wrong to me. Like Barkley was used.
    So I reckon it’d be great if we could get Barkley on for an AMA session… and then “spring Big Bird into the session”; as a “surprise guest” type thing. Imagine the unbridled emotions that would ensue. The laughter. The tears. And maybe the anger.

    These are my suggestions. I’m sure many others here feel the same way. How about it Scotty/Neil?

    Just to update the thread.

    Davo's did his AMA.

    Scotty will be doing his AMA next Thursday at 9AM so think of any questions you may have.

    We had some interest with The Checkout team but will have to wait and see if they confirm.

    Please keep giving us suggestions.
