What Do I Do?

HI,
I made a wordpress blog over 1 to 2 months ago and it's exploded and now getting 1.5mil+ page views a month and I am wondering where to host this thing now. WPEngine is where i am out now but the prices are getting ridiculous especially because its in US. It's the 8th and have reached my limit with these guys and have to go up to the next tier which is $250US.

Now my question! I want to head over to a VPS but have no clue what i am after.
HostGator: http://www.hostgator.com/vps-hosting/
I've found this but seems awfully cheap compared to WPEngine. Will this work for my needs? and if not can someone help me?

Cheers.

It would be hard to get started with VPS if you don't know what you are doing. However if you know how to tune a WordPress install properly — with appropriate webserver and caching — a VPS can go a long way. So if the question is, "is a $90/month VPS from HostGator good enough for a WordPress blog getting 1.5million page views a month"? Well yes, but it depends on

    • how many WP plugins are you using?
    • can you optimise the server and your WP install?

Used to run a 500k pv/month WordPress blog on a cheap VPS with 160MB RAM with minimum caching…

    • Im impressed with your previous blog.
However am very clueless with this though do need to learn as $320/pm what I feel is quite extreme!
(Not sure if you're actually asking me but will answer anywho)

      - No!

      • I think without knowledge to optimise a server, you'll either go with a managed VPS solution (still no guarantee that the management company knows how to optimise) or go for shops that can specialise high volume WordPress hosting, i.e. WPEngine but they are not exclusive.

Sorry don't have anyone to recommend.

        • All good Scotty.
Appreciate the help! Might just stick with WPEngine, Though expensive they do, Do a good job!
          Thanks!

Please provide a link to your blog, I'd like to read it.

    Cheers

  • Have you researched squarespace?

There is an import function, and they claim unlimited bandwidth.

Also, you can get 10% off quite easily online.
