Not sure why there's a "apply-by" date. This deal has been in place for YEARS …

  • Will this card elligible for future special discount - i.e the good guys 50 dollars off special event?

    • Yes. More or less.

  • Unfortunately AMEX has become a bit of a pariah of the credit cards recently, with a lot of places charging extra for the privilege of using it and many more place just not accepting it at all…
Which is a bummer, I have been an AMEX customer for almost 2 decades…

    • Same. I just cancelled my Platinum card. Utterly pointless. No one seems to accept it or charges a higher surcharge.

    • with a lot of places charging extra for the privilege of using it and many more place just not accepting it at all…

My brother-in-law owns a business. He says he AMEX never asks him to charge for AMEX card use. According to AMEX, the so-called "charge" is decided by the shop owner.

Maybe it's because the common demographics of AMEX card holders that shop owners put a "charge" for AMEX cards.

    • Recently? This has always been the case, what with higher merchant fees and significantly lower market share than Visa/MC. If anything, acceptance is getting a lot better recently, particularly with small business.

Nice post but if you're just playing the credit card game for points I'd suggest limiting your applications to where the bonus points are higher. You don't really want to do more than a couple of these a year.

  • They just sent me a letter increasing my platinum edge annual fee from $99 to $149 next year for a bunch of useless features. I m going to cancel it by the end of this year.

This is not a great deal - there are far better sign-on bonuses than this if you are chasing points.

      Agreed. Poor value.
