UPDATE from Dell Corporate Affairthis is an email that I have received. —scotty

OzBargain users should be aware that while every effort is made to check for errors in typography and photography on the Dell Australia online store, inadvertent errors may occur. In this instance, an inadvertent error caused a Linksys Wireless N Router to be listed on Dell Australia’s website at an incorrect price of AUD$20.90, including delivery and GST.

As soon as Dell Australia recognised this inadvertent error, the router was removed from its website. Dell Australia is also proactively contacting customers who placed an order at the incorrect price.

As a gesture of goodwill, Dell Australia is offering each customer whose order was not accepted the option to purchase one router at a special price of AUD$229, including delivery and GST.

While Dell Australia has made it a priority to contact its customers directly, Dell Australia apologises for any inconvenience or confusion that may have been caused to OzBargain users.

Original Post

As the title says, the Linksys Dual Band Wireless N Router for only $20.90, get it while you can, it might not last for too long, as it usually retails for something like $170. CNET gives it a 4/5 stars so it ought to be good.

Enjoy :D

(P.S This is my first submission :p)

Mod - just moved the Error to the front of the title and used all caps. Remove "confirmed".

would be awesome but probably another dell bait-and-switch (aka pricing error)
they really should fire the people that key in their prices.

I've bought one anyway to see how it goes :D

  • have a feeling this is probably a typo… possibly meant to be $209.00?

  • We shall see. I just orderd as well but here are the notes:

    1) Within 24 hours you will receive an email acknowledging receipt of your order.
    2) You will receive a payment clearance notification within 2 business days to inform you that Dell has confirmed you order.
    3) Upon receiving payment clearance, track your orders at www.dell.com.au/orderstatus.
    4) Once your order is ready to ship we will email the estimated delivery date of your order

  • Ordered. See what happens. Cheapest on staticice is $250 so it can't be right.

    • Yup, I ordered 1 as well.

  • It's going to be a typo.. But you gotta be in it to win it!
These can be flashed with Open Source Firmware (although it's early days and there are still some bugs)

I have my acknowledgment email, but we all know that means nothing until they take your cash and "verify your order"

    • It means nothing until you have the item in your hands.

    • +2

and thats worth a neg vote? lol

    • +2

So you take advantage of a deal and then negative vote it? some people….

  • Good luck with getting the orders guys, I have to wait till I have access to a credit card at around lunch time, watch me have reported this but not get in on it :S

    • Select to pay by direct deposit or even in person at NAB!

I still expect to have the deal rejected though..

  • Almost certainly a typo they will not honour - but let's hope!

  • I Bought one also - Fingers Cross

  • +1

can't be stuffed going all the way to NAB lol. And you guys seem to think it won't work anyway so…

    • You don't have to go.. just say you will..
If they honour the deal, for those of us with Cards, then you go in and pay..

  • Nice, dont need one but its too good to pass.

  • Duplicate.

  • Order 2 see how we go.

  • gotta be in it to win it! :P

  • Ordered 2. Too good to pass up and probably too good to be true.

  • any dell coupons to go with it? or are accessories coupons immune?

I can't stop laughing at this comment. You want to use an EPP discount on top aswell for another 5% off!? ;)

Ordered it myself, let's see how it plays out.

  • +1

I've joined the bandwagon, don't need one, but too good to pass up. 1 please! :)

      Likewise :-)

  • +1

Going to give it a try. Nothing to lose besides 2mins of my time

  • +1

Ordered 1 - now to wait for rejection email just like the mice last time…

  • +3

    Worth a shot

Man, why am I on OzBargain on a beautiful Saturday morning?

  • +1

bought one.. but it won't work.. just like the logitech mouse they tried to use for bait and switch

  • Just ordered 4 more :)

  • +3

Don't even bother. It's just some more evidence that Dell haven't put into place policies that prevent these stuff ups (even though they assured everyone that it won't happen again).

  • Is this a modem router or router only?

    • +1

      Router only, but dual band wireless N (i.e. 2.4GHz & 5 Ghz)

      • Sweet. Hope we get these deals :)

  • +2

I'm definitely going to miss out at this rate, why do I have to be so kind goddamn it!

MISTAKES: While all efforts are made to check pricing and other errors, inadvertent errors do occur from time to time and Dell reserves the right to decline orders arising from such errors.

    boo :(

I think for 20 dollars, worth getting as back up! I just did! Thanks for posting

    Oh no, not Dell again.
    Forget it guys.

Re: Dell Reference Number - AU0000-XXXXXX

An error on the www.dell.com.au online store on 27 March 2009 saw Dell offer the Logitech MX Revolution Rechargeble Cordless Laser Mouse for $34.10

Dell would like to advise you that this was a genuine mistake; Dell has not accepted your order or gone into contract with you. If you have paid by direct deposit (e.g. Internet Banking) or by credit card we will decline your payment and return the payment to you. If you have not yet made payment, please do not proceed to pay Dell this incorrect amount, as your payment will be returned.

Dell offers to either cancel your order or if you would like to proceed to purchase the product at $119.00 including GST, please respond via email, and we will get a Dell representative to call you at the earliest and take you through the ordering process. If we do not hear back from you within next two business days by 3 April 2009, we will consider the order cancelled by you.

The standard terms and conditions listed on Dell's on-line store state that while all efforts are made to check pricing and other errors, inadvertent errors do occur from time to time and Dell reserves the right to decline orders arising from such errors.

We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

    Regards,

    Dell Australia.

    • As much as Dell can say they have not accepted your order or gone into contract, the fact still remains that they have clearly offered this router for sale at $20 and acknowledged 'orders' for it, including one from me. There are laws against false advertising and I think Dell risks breaching them by not honoring the stated price.

      • lol but ACCC and Fair Trade all sit at their office drinking coffee and chuck our complaint forms into the bin =D

        • Ah but you only need to lodge a complaint if they don't honour their advertised price. If that happened you would also need to take it up with Dell yourself before you make any complaint, and I think if you highlight their breach of the Trade Practices Act, they might be thinking twice before they refuse…

  • +2

i payed for the logitech mx mouse via direct deposit, they took my money but still wouldn't give me the mouse, and ACCC didn't do anything… so paying via direct deposit might be a worse alternative as they kept my money for 20 days before it was refunded.

  • ordered 2 lets see how it goes

  • 500 clicks and I haven't been able to order one, even if they do honour it there won't be any left!

  • +3

    Dont bother guys

  • +2

No way they're going to honour this.

They're making a loss, even if they do sell this at $40 a pop.

I wonder why they're making so many pricing mistakes. Is someone trying to sabotage their business?

    • +1

Is someone trying to sabotage their business?

      Yeah, themselves.

  • Ordered 2 & fingers crossed…. lol

  • +5

    nice pick up LibertyPrime
unfortunately by the time my dad gets home i doubt i'd be able to get an order through

    • +4

thanks the first person to actually thank me lol

      • ur welcome
dont be too harsh the others have just all gone crazy trying to grab a bargain, im sure they're all thanking you in one way or another

        • +2

38 people have thanked you by clicking positive.. (at the time I write this)
Even I voted positive, and I saw the bargain first on Lifehacker, before you posted the deal.. By the time I'd put in my order though, you'd posted here.

  • Put in the order by Credit Card as I do actually need a wireless router. But I'm not going to +1 until we see what happens with the orders - like most others this looks like a typo to me. Not worth my time to get worked up about but based on past precedent I don't expect it to be honoured.

    • +1

If you are going to do it, credit card is the way (like you've done). Otherwise, as aznsniper was saying, you won't be seeing your money any time soon.

People might want to have another think about things before they order 10 of these by direct deposit.

  • Ordered 2 lets see!

  • your best way to order these things would be
    a) call up
    b) go and see a dell kiosk?

    • +3

or very very quickly try to get an office works price match :)

      http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Com…

      • +2

i doubt officeworks will pricematch it, they're not dumb

      • officeworks won't do things like this. Its Obviously a pricing error, and its below cost price.

      • My store said their system was showing stock however they could not locate any boxes.

  • No harm in trying.

  • thanks for the find LibertyPrime, however most likely a price error. However like the last mx mouse incident everyone seemed to be annoyed at the poster and dell. Its not the posters fault for the stuff up so I don't believe that if this deal is a dud, we shouldn't spam neg, just neutral ur vote or something.

That said, thanks for the find LibertyPrime

  • +1

thanks, i've also tried my hand at this deal :)

  • +1

    Thanks LibertyPrime :)
I've been holding out for a wireless N router for some time. It probably won't go through, but here's hoping ;)

  • +3

For those wondering, I called a Kiosk, they reckon its a typ but said give it a shot anyway, Officeworks says they'll pricematch anything with proof so here goes lol

EDIT: I've decided not to order one, it's probably a typo, if you think about it, Officeworks sells the things for $320, but good luck to those who have ordered

    • -2

      "..called a Kiosk.."

No doubt, straight after you rang, the kiosk called head office to inform them of the mistake.

      Thanks for the post anyway.

Good luck to all that ordered.

      • +1

don't worry I'm sure weather I called or not after having 900+ clicks to that product page, and probably even more orders made in the space of an hour they will realise if its a typo or not

        • True =D

Anyone been game to go to Office Works?

I tip my hat to anyone who has.

          • +6

@Suit: I just made a mad dash to OW Chadstone

Officeworks Chadstone - willing to pricematch, no stock.

Checked other stores around, only one with >1 stock was Doncaster. (1 stock left usually means its the damaged/soil one).

Rang up Doncaster - have 5, not willing to pricematch at that price.

            Phail.

EDIT: Chadstone had the stick price on the shelf at about $153. When I rang up DOnnie they mentioned it was $225 over the phone.

I'm thinking Chadstone has no stock because it was incorrectly put at $153 and someone noticed and snatched them up for 1/3 off.

    • +3

      Officeworks pricematch: Done and done.

I called several other Officeworks, and they were all out of stock, and some did not intend to get anymore stock in, so it might be discontinued.

Printed out the webpage and URL. They were appropriately apprehensive, but after going through checkout and stopping short of making the purchase, they were satisfied with the offer.

Thanks for the bargain. Neg revoked.

  • Worth a shot, have ordered one. Thanks LibertyPrime!

  • ordered 1….see what happen next.

  • +2

So wouldn't it be worthwhile taking this to officeworks to price-match, this way you are guaranteed to get it even if Dell dishonours the item =)

    • +3

lol - I've gotten two negs for suggesting this, even though there is a better chance of this happening (albeit very slim), than the zero chance of dell honoring this deal.

      • -1

Don't rip off officeworks… they give us good deals all the time, and this is obviously a mistake on dell's part, not officeworks fault. :-(

  • +1

At the bottom of the page:

MISTAKES: While all efforts are made to check pricing and other errors, inadvertent errors do occur from time to time and Dell reserves the right to decline orders arising from such errors.

  • +2

Just another price error, but ordered 2, I want gigabyte routers.

  • i ordered one, i need a new router..

i'll give it a day or so and decided to pay then.

not risking losing my money :P

  • +1

I presume I can attach an ADSL modem to this? Ordered one anyway…

  • +3

    Was just taking to Dell.
They said it was an error and the price should be $309! Also that they will not be able to honor the price as it is a third party product.
A 10% discount will be given to people that have already bought them! Wow thanks Dell!

    • +1

thanks, lucky i held off paying :)

    • +1

So even after acknowledging the error there is still no correction to the site…

This has happened before and weren't they forced to honour it?

      • It happened in Taiwan, dell were forced to honour the error
        http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9135185/Dell_s_online…

      • "So even after acknowledging the error there is still no correction to the site…"

By being made aware of this error, and not correcting it, means that they could done for bait advertising

    • considering they've just advertised the 160N (misprint) in their emails for $142 the person you spoke to was likely on crack. Typical Dell.

    • You spoke with Dell several hours ago and they have still not changed the price…perhaps ACCC should take that into consideration.

  • No longer a genuine bargain. Pricing error as Dell have explained.

    • Pricing error as Dell have claimed to someone, but they've not officially said it. Let's stick to the facts.

I'm with everyone else here, flood the hell out of this offer, wait for them not to offer it if their usual modus operandi holds, then prosecute the hell out of them through local Consumer Affairs agencies for bait and switch. The bad press alone generated from it will teach them a lesson which they so badly need.

  • +1

    Worth a try. Thanks LibertyPrime.

  • +4

To those who phoned dell or go to kiosk for verification…what a bunch of damn bass.

    • +1

      Exactly

  • +1

That's not good to hear. Please don't get angry at me though, I'm just the messenger and technically Dell has entered the contract of Sale and have to sell it at the agreed price. Alas this probably won't happpen.

    • If you paid with direct deposit there is no contract as they have not accepted your payment

If you paid with a credit card and your card has been charged there is a contract between you and dell

      • +1

Yeah that is correct, but I'm not sure how Dell operates in terms of accepting payment, charging the credit card etc. so best of luck to those who ordered

  • +3

Lets crossify liberty…. naaaah kidding lol, thanks mate whether it goes through or not.

  • Yet it is still up . Shame Shame Shame Dell .
