What has the world come to !!
A phone with 4.6 inch screen is sold as "Compact" !

    • +1

I know. I regret getting a non-compact version of my Z1. It's a great phone, but just too big to fit in a jeans pocket.

    • IMO 4 inch screen is ideal.

  • +2

if you been upgrading smart phones fairly consistently over the years, holding a 4.6 inch suddenly becomes tiny

  • Is this Australian stock or grey import?

    • +2
      • As we source our products globally, the manual provided in the box may comes in the language of the sourced region, however, links to the official website are provided on our site for your reference.

      Grey Import

DWI Only sell grey imports but offer 1 year full Australian warranty

The after-sale service and warranty policy does not cover for the following damages: cosmetic damage, damage due to acts of God, accident, misuse, abuse or negligence. We will examine the actual causes of the damages and make an ultimate decision. All requested services are subject to final approval by DWI or our contracted service agent ATECH Distribution.

Damage due to acts of God… Does that mean the phone will not be under warranty if it was smited by the hammer of Thor and got damaged as result?

        • LOL
Pretty much what the sony Australian warranty says on the sony site but more
Their warranty excludes - To damage, malfunction or failure resulting from alterations, accident, misuse, abuse, fire, liquid spillage, mis-adjustment of customer controls, use on an incorrect voltage, power surges and dips, thunderstorm activity, acts of God, voltage supply problems, tampering or unauthorised repairs by any persons, use of defective or incompatible accessories, the operation of a computer virus of any kind, exposure to abnormally corrosive conditions or entry by any insect, vermin or foreign object in the product.

@TRENT86: Sony Australian warranty and this both sound like "We really don't want to fix your phone it is gets broken."

        • @AznMitch: Yeah it was surprised at that long list from Sony Aus

        • @TRENT86: Hmmm, is there any cause of damage that doesn't get excluded? Though be fair, according to some people, God is behind everything, so does this mean that their warranty is pretty much non-existent?

I get the feeling that it only covers potential faulty products and nothing but faulty products.

        • @AznMitch: Yeah I think most are going that way. I forgot to watch that ACA thing last night on consumer rights I will have to go view it

        • @AznMitch:
It's bullshit exclusions like this that put me off from buying from a brand.
I never knew it was that bad, are others brands Sammy/LG/HTC, etc like them?
          I've never looked into them.

Shame, as I'm keen on something like their Z3 Compact but with 32GB+ (Z4 Compact?).

Yeah its pretty much the same everywhere

        • @TRENT86 & AznMitch:

          Thanks for the reply's.

I understand they want to protect themselves from dumb or careless/reckless people, but this seems a bit extreme or it could be just me?

        • +1

@OrbDaggerZ: Yeah it's a bit over the top

        • +1

I think it's slightly too over the top, but then again, if they don't put it there, they have to fix it. I've never been in a case where I needed to fix my phone other than once with Lumia where the microphone died so I don't know, but I'd assume that it would be them just covering their asses.

If they don't say it, they have to. If they say it and fix it saying, just this once or I will write it as something else, it looks good.

Use code "CLIXDWI2015" and you can have it for $499, its a much more attractive price tag now ;)

    • Cheers bro. where did you find code?

      • +2

i just googled for one, came up on retailmenot, applies to anything over $400 i think

I was looking to buy this for the past year, but with the big mobile world congress announcements in literally less than a week, I'd hold off until the Z4 is announced.

    • +1

dat consumerism. always waiting (I am very guilty of this)

    • +1

Apparently the Z4 may be the last phone Sony makes. They may be stopping the phone business. Not sure what it means for updates to existing phones in the future, but possibly not good news.

      • I heard they were just slowing down and making it into an annual release rather than an extreme six month cycle

  • While it doesn't normally come with a stylus, the Z3 normally does come with a OTG USB cable.

  • +6

I bought it $600 from Telstra outright. I figured the savings were moot when you consider the grey import quality assurance and warranty headaches maybe.

    Great phone though

    • As tempting as this price would be, I'd do the same.

      • +1

The warranty for Aus version is more strict than the one offered by DWI

  • I've been hunting for z3 compact for long time. Can you please tell me where it would be better to but? DWI, Becextech or Top But? Are these ones also grey import? Thank you in advance.

    • +1

Never heard of any problems from DWI, lots of deals have come from them on ozbargain :)

    • If I recall corectly these sites have high postage cost so as to make their prices look good.
These stores tend to pop up on ICE.

      • +2

Yeah another good reason to buy from DWI. Free shipping on $50 spend

  • +5

I bought a z2 compact from dwi which had touch screen problems. When returned they swore it was fine and were sending it back. 2 weeks later I followed up only to be told it hasn't been sent yet. A week later same thing "but I'm looking at it right now". Following week umm, we lost it, we can give you a free z1 as a replacement. I'm never buying from them again

    • That doesn't sound good, your the first problem I have heard about from them on this site.

      • I think I recall some people having issues with DWI in the past?, maybe 2-3 years ago?
My memory is crap, but I'm pretty sure that some have had trouble in the past with them.

        • Yeah but that's like everywhere, as long as majority have been fine, god even my mum got a Samsung G S4 from Telstra shop other week and it faulted in less than a week

  • +1

If anyone has Sony X membership, the Z3 compact is $551 inclusive of free delivery via DHL through SonyX.

  • How to add code? went as far as selected shipping after payment, then came up with a T&C page and i said nah, not goin this far just to see where code is entered out of curiousity..

    • Click add to cart, scroll down next page and click proceed to checkout (its in red)
then on that page under price is an empty bar :)

      • ah k, cheers. I went through paypal, didnt come up there.

  • I purchased a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 mobile phone from Digital World International of Hong Kong (Dwidigitalcameras.com.au) on 11.04.2014. This mobile and my subsequent dealings with DWI have been a disaster. From the start, the mobile was not able to switch between 3G and 4G networks. I contacted them via their website and they asked me to troubleshoot which I did without success. They then tol d me to send the phone back to them. They returned it several weeks later and told me that it was fixed. But this was only the start of the problems.
Randomly, incoming calls could not be answered because the screen froze. I contacted them. Again we went through the troubleshooting exercise without success. Again they asked me to send it back to them. They returned it after several weeks and assured me that the problem was fixed. However within two days the problem occurred again. I send it back. They returned it after several more weeks and said it was fixed 100%. The problem re-occurred and we went through the same thing. This time they claimed to have replace the motherboard. Before I got the phone back I asked them for a refund as I had realised by then that it was unfit for purpose. They offered me only AUD$225.50 which I rejected because I had purchased it for AUD$622.!!
The phone came back and within a few days I realised that there is now a signal problem with the phone which prevents me from receiving some incoming calls and making some outgoing calls. To prove that the fault is with the phone, I moved my SIM card to another phone and I didn't have the problem. Today, I have complained to DWI about this problem as well.
The end result is that I have not had a satisfactory mobile for 10 months . I have had the inconvenience of having to contact DWI on numerous occasions and of having to send and collect the phone, each time being assured that it has been fixed, only to find that problems continue.
In the circumstances, I regard the so-called refund which they offered as an insult. It is obvious that DWI treat their customers very poorly. I strongly advise that you do not deal with them.
