Gionee Elife E7- Snapdragon 800, NFC, 5.5" FHD IPS, 3GB/32GB, 16MP Camera US$189.99 @ Coolicool

620
DMGE20

Snapdragon 800, 3GB RAM and 32Gb ROM for under $190 USD? You better believe it. The coupon code above takes $22 dollars off if you happen to be also buying the Elephone G1, which is a low end rubbish phone with 512MB of RAM that you're probably not interested in at all.

Detailed specs from GSM Arena
http://www.gsmarena.com/gionee_elife_e7-6082.php

Quick look with Engadget
http://www.engadget.com/2013/11/28/gionee-elife-e7-16mp-2-5g…

Quick specs
♦ 5.5 Inch Corning Gorilla Glass 3 Screen, 1920*1080 Pixels, 401 PPI
♦ Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 2.2GHz Quad Core
♦ Support 3G Network: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz, WCDMA 900/2100MHz
♦ 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM
♦ 16 MP Back Camera + 8 MP Front Camera
♦ 2500mAh non removable battery (kind of small for a 5.5" display)
♦ Amigo 2.0 Based On Android 4.2 System (Kit Kat coming soon) but you're probably going to chuck CyanogenMod on it to get rid of the custom Amigo OS.

Comes with
1x rubbish earphones
1x cable, charger and manual
3x NFC tags
2x screen protectors
1x phone stand
1x sim removal tool
1x a leather case

Not much to say here. It's a china-phone at a cutthroat low price, but it's got an awkwardly small battery considering it has such a large screen @ 1080p with a high end Snapdragon 800 2.2ghz SoC.

    Small battery ruins it.

  • Expect about $250 AUD also it's free shipping

    • +9

It's going to take me some time get used to not being ~1:1 any more.

  • No 4G? No Lollipop?

    • Only Kit Kat for now, via OTA update.

      • The specs look good for me at first glance, but…
I can't find anybody that reports having Kitkat on it. Kitkat seems available on the related but different E7 MINI.
No Cyanogenmod either as far as I can tell, I can only find a few owners who have submitted requests for it. This is a pity, as despite the high spec the biggest criticism seems to be the laggy OS.

Will wcdma phones even get 3g reception? I was under the impression that we used hsdpa.

    • +1

3G frequencies are usually specified as UMTS/HSDPA or WCDMA frequencies on the mobile phone specifications. So yes, it will support both HSDPA and WCDMA. In Australia, we use both technologies — your phone switches from HSDPA to WCDMA depending on whether it is downloading or not. Read here for a clearer explanation.

    • +2

Yes will work here like scrimshaw said. Though won't work on Voda and Telstra due to lack of 850MHz for WCDMA, so really only good for the Optus network.

If that antutu benchmark is correct it's pretty decent phone then.
I just ran antutu on my HTC one M8 and i scored 45651

      • +2

Antutu really doesn't mean much, optimization is key

    • +2

Please show us something better (for the price).

  • Any different from AliExpress? Bout the same pricing…

    http://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-GIONEE-ELIFE-E7.html?s…

  • +1

SAR Value is mentioned on the back cover 1.43 W/kg@1g Head and 0.889 W/kg@1g Body.

  • +3

The price is actually not that special, I'd personally rather replace 3GB ram with 4G for the same price:
    http://www.pandawill.com/jiayu-s3-smartphone-4g-lte-mtk6572-…
    http://www.pandawill.com/eoo-e04-aurora-smartphone-4g-lte-64…

and the E7 for $189.99 is the same price as Pandawill without a coupon, maybe there's a coupon floating around to make it cheaper.

    • Decent phones but no snapdragon 800 though

Shame this one doesn't have microsd slot too

      • Don't think S800 is anything special though, it's already last gen. MT6572 is pretty close in terms of performance. (Not to mention most phones are now overpowered, and a good CPU is still gonna lag if the UI is without optimization)

        • Yes but the jump from 800 to 801 was not very large in terms of performance. Kinda like the jump from 801 to 805 … seeing a trend?

        • I can say the same thing for S800 vs MT6752 as well.
My point was there's nothing wrong with MT6752 when compared to S800 as they are very close in terms of performance.
If there's any cheap phones with MT6595 then that's even better.

  • seems like a good phone but i need 4g :(

    • +1

      lol, why?

  • Amazingly good price, as long as you don't need 4G and don't mind not-so-nice software (I'm assuming, I normally hate these unpolished cartoony overlays)

  • +1

This will have noticeably better battery than the Nexus 5

    • +3

I don't get the whole Nexus 5 rubbish battery issue, I get a full day with quite heavy usage running lollipop.

      • -4

Checking your facebook every hour is not heavy usage

      • It's not really bad, it just could be better.

        I have 100% at 6am and it's near dead at 5pm. That ain't a full day.

        • I get more than 12 hours out of mine, but then again mine is quite new and one of the last before they stopped selling them. marchi facebook is so yesterday so get with the times.

        • @stemcell: Explaining how much time you get is essentially pointless to everyone other than yourself ;)

        • @Diji1:

I like to consider myself as a typical user.

      • No you don't.

        • Ohh yes I do.

  • +5

    "1x rubbish earphones"

    lol

  • That is one beast of a phone! XD

  • Is there a site to learn all this stuff - what phone I need to buy? 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x, etc. cores, RAM, 3G, 4G, Apple, Android, displaying bar codes in Coles/WW !? I have a $30 Samsung phone that doesn't run apps, says it connects to the internet but which never works when I try, a tiny screen, memory keeps filling up so I have to delete messages I want to keep, I don't think has 4G (nor do I know if I need it), and I can't buy a 12VDC car charger for it because it has a proprietary socket that I can't discover the name of! I can buy a 12V/220V inverter, but then it's nearly cheaper to buy a new phone.

    • +7

      Just buy this phone lol

    • +5

Sounds like you have a nerdy friend or relative missing from your life

    • +2

I'll tell you everything you need to know about phones if you tell me where I can still score bulk frozen McDonalds chicken nuggets. Deal?

      • The Costco chicken nuggets were surprisingly good..

    • +1

I think your best solution is stop being so cheap with electronics. You get what you pay for (even true for Apple).

Anything mid range on the market now will help every problem you listed but you need to spend $200 - 300 to get this.

      • Understand your point, but it's not a matter of price… I've seen $100 phones and $1000 phones. But have no idea what I need, apart from dual sim slots and something that runs android apps, and works with Australian mobile frequencies. Apart from that I've no idea what I'm looking at. Oh - and has a 12VDC car charger.

        • To break it down to you:

This phone meets your requirements if

          1. You only need a single SIM slot (this is a single sim phone)
          2. You are NOT using a Vodafone or Telstra network (or any of it's MVNOs, like Boost) because it lacks 850mhz 3g
          3. You don't need or want 4G LTE connectivity.

Car charger — every electronics store sells one of these nowadays and they are all USB

  • +3

Interesting mix of good and not so good specs but overall sounds like lots of bangs for bucks and even including NFC cards and a case!

I'm hanging out for an eight core, possibly a JiaYu S3 or Meizu m1 note. The JiaYu will be in a similar price range, but with just 2GB/16GB (with SD slot available). Been researching it to death but such models are only just about to become available.

As a happy THL owner, I'm all for Chinese specials!

  • +1

Fantastic specs for the price! Beats most the recent deals on here for overseas phones. I can't accept that battery for such good specs though.. what a disappointment.

You'd need a xiaomi quality PB or better connected to it by mid day if you actually want to do anything consuming on the phone. With high specs there is no point of having this phone as an idle phone.

I would be constantly afraid of battery life with this, I'd rather put in the extra $100-$200 and get a Xiaomi Note or G Note 3 rather than spend $30 on a PB that is constantly hanging off this phone.

    • I actually have no idea why people are so worried about the battery on this device.

It's very close in terms of screen size and battery capacity to a 2011 Galaxy Note 1 which really had no issues for me as far as that goes and I suspect this device is easier on it's battery for the same compute power (because that's a continuing trend in hardware).

Awesome Phone, I just ordered one.
Considering the price and specs, I will definitely use it for regular basis.

Is cyanogen mod on lollipop for this phone?

    • +1

CM12 (Cynanogenmod lollipop) has not officially come out yet for any phone, but i'm sure you should be able to flash CM11s onto this phone…

      • I am sure you mean CM11 as CM11s is for OnePlus One only, but Yes I would like to know does it have CM 11 support?? Any links

        • -2

Um honestly I think you need to research a little bit first if that's what you think CM11 is.

Also after 5 seconds looking at xda i would be very careful in assuming there is a CM build for this device that you want to use. But I may be wrong … given that I looked and I don't even want the device. Seems the least you can do …

        • +3

          @Diji1:
Did some one tickle you wrong??
Its a simple question I know what I can do thank you, for that matter everything is on the internet like all these deals etc, but if some one is nice enough to share the info that they have researched, I will be grateful and click the plus.

I think CM 11 is Cyanogenmod 11 (based on Kitkat), while CM11s to which triviums is referring to stands for a customized version of CM11 which was released by them under the Cyngn company licence and is approved by GMS.
This is what I currently know. If I need to do more research please point me in the appropriate direction.

        • +1

@sn809: Apologies I was a bit snarkey and it's a failing of mine that I can do with feedback on so thank you in fact.

Basically I was referring to the fact that Cyanogenmod is an "open" version of Android meaning that it is not just a One PlusOne OS although this is a notable device because it's native OS is CM.

Also unfortunately the quality of CM can vary greatly between devices which is what I mean with the last paragraph.

For popular devices such as most Samsung and HTC devices the CM versions are essentially better than the stock Android version that is on these devices to many users.

However less popular devices your mileage is going to vary: I think many people agree that the performance hit for using CM on Xperia (edit: SOME Xperia devices eg. Z Ultra) devices is not worth it simply because not many people are working on tuning it to work well. So you might be happy with CM on this device (I don't know for certain) but it may actually be very buggy and slow. From what I saw there is a version for this device but it's in a pre-release version (=could be fine but might not be)

  • If 4G is what you want, would this be the choice for an extra $58 AUD? I've got no experience of any of these, just read a bit about the Meizu's being worth a look. Not even sure if it would work on Aussie networks
    http://www.pandawill.com/meizu-m1-note-64bit-octa-core-fdd-l…

    • +5

That's nearly $300 AUD already, at that price, I would rather wait and buy the Zenfone 2 which will have some pretty good specs. See the ASUS site
      http://www.asus.com/Phones/ZenFone_2_ZE551ML/

It is to be released in March.

      • +1

        That Asus looks brilliant

        • Does the fact that it has "intel inside" limit any apps or games etc? I know the battery consumption is a lot better than the earlier gen mobile chipset from Intel.

        • +2

Not really, every major game now has proper x86 support. Because Intel now is pushing very hard to gain market share on the mobile platform, they provide a lot of support for developers making it easy to code Android apps for the intel Atom series.

        • @scrimshaw:
          Thanks

      • but about 450USD for 4gb version :/

      • How about this one? Worth getting @ $200 usd?

Great price for the specs, but personally I would be tempted to go for a second-hand LG G2 instead for the battery.

I formally volunteer my services as western liaison for smartphone naming practices. Seriously. I'm happy to help stem of the tide of this seemingly endless array of ridiculously-named devices.

    • +1

I didn't choose the Elife,.. the Elife chose me! :-)

    • +2

they've come a long way since everything was "golden sun" or "happy dragon" brand or similar.
They've just adopted the western "completely random" product name, but with out the cultural context of sounding vaguely like something good despite being random nonsense.

    • +2

I was proud of my THL (Think Happy Life), and besides, does everybody realise that LG does not stand for "Life's Good", but Lucky Goldstar?

      • Isn't it Technology, Happy, Life? that's what it says on my THL W8.

        • +1

My mistake. Think happy, think technology, think I just forgot. Can we settle and agree that Chinglish is not always memorable?

  • Checkout the Iuni u2 can be had for a similar price similar spec but more compact size.

  • The camera sounds awesome! Very tempted just for that reason.

  • Other than the battery it sounds like a fantastic deal.

In terms of performance the E7 would crush the Galaxy S4

Xiaomi 10400 mAh powerbank for 17.99 usd, not sure if genuine or not though unless someone can confirm

Good buy with the coupon code!

  • If you want 4g what about this: http://www.pandawill.com/lenovo-a806-smartphone-4g-lte-andro…

sometimes you can get it cheaper too.

    • Unfortunately that has a mediatek cpu which is far slower than the snapdragon.

  • 32gb ROM? Errr I assume they mean storage, not ROM?

  • WARNING heads up

Previous Gionee phones have come bundled with malware/viruses src: https://blog.lookout.com/blog/2014/12/04/deathring/

While this phone is not listed you may want to run a scan or check the bundled APKs via virus total… just in case.

  • As per bao28's suggestion, purchased the phone and powerbank for $239.00 after applying the code! Great deal.

  • Thinking of getting this because OnePlus One has an annoying touch sensor bug. Any idea if it'll work on Boost (Telstra Next G)?

    • No 850mhz Next G.

  • I would never ever purchase anything from this dodgy website… these people are a joke.. a bunch of monkeys.. who have absolutely no idea about customer values and services..

They have wasted my 3 weeks .. and I am having such a hard time tryin to get them sent my order… every day they email me saying they will send it .. but the next day the same email comes and ask me to wait with patience.. (profanity) patience…

I still have not receive my order coz they still have not send it to me yet… and no refund at all either…

absolute fake and dodgy monkeys running this ripped off business.
