Great price there. The Brisbane to London price with Philippines seems to be for dates starting in June though

Well spotted, and post updated for Jun-Nov. Thank you.

  • Ooh, this is exactly what I need next year. Possibly heading to England in May 2016.

  • This is what I get when I click on Mel - Lon with Royal Brunei..
    http://www.statravel.com.au/flights.htm?flight_outbound_depa…
    No actual search engine

    • Click on your link, then click on the FLIGHTS button. Cheers.

      • ahh thanks.. kinda confusing site!

I flew Brunei from Mel -> Istanbul and back a couple years back and you should note a couple things:

Stopovers at Brunei are dull due to the airport being sub par
Much like other airlines from Islamic states there are maps to Mecca and prayers before take off
The cabin staff are very friendly but their English isn't the greatest
If it rains in Brunei you will be delayed so make sure your gadgets have a charge to keep you entertained

    • If it rains in Brunei you will be delayed

      If it rains at all??

      • +1

        The rain in Spain Brunei
        Falls mainly on the plane.

      • "If it rains at all." I don't get it?

        • I've never see rain that you could say is drizzle or a shower, it was always practically a torrential down pour.

  • When is the best days of the year to travel in UK?

    • I would say June/July; it's funny comparing summers, it was 24 degrees 2 days running and locals were rocking shorts and complaining about the heatwave.

    • No viable answer, Uk weather is the worst. Usually raining 80% time of the year and like sunny AND Hot one week worth out of 52 weeks. If you wanting tourism visits then between May-September.

      • total crap it hardly rains june-july .
however whats worse is the layer of smog over london that keeps the stuffy heat in over summer.
unpleasant unless u wanna just get out of london.
has been getting warmer every year or so too - global warming

        • Is it "fog"/" mist" or smog like what happens in Beijing? I hate humid and hot days.

        • I'm sorry did you live there? I'm speaking base on experience in living there, yes it will less likely rain during June/July but its still miserable weather and of course it depends on where you go but not a huge difference.

I also beleive that they are a 'dry' airline, so don't expect to have any alcohol on your flight. I know that in the business class cabin they'll serve you your BYO'd duty free, but not sure about in Economy.

    • +2

      Free corkage?

    • +1

Royal Brunei DON'T serve any alcohol on their flights

      • I can vouch for this. It's a long f*****ing flight when your private tv is complete crap AND theres no alcohol.

Resorted to flirting with flight attendants.

2005 I flew London to Sydney btw.

        • I wouldnt flirt at the risk of losing my head.

@OzRaj: You probably don't have anything to worry about as a man. She's the one potentially risking stoning.

  • I flew with them last year, March/May - MEL - LHR - MEL.. it's pretty decent, u cannot get a lower airfare than that..No alcohol, Brunei airport is tiny.. at disgusting.. so yeah keep ur electronic devices handy..they have the new Boeing dream liner that they fly for this route.. if you are looking for a bargain.. this is definitely it ! oh & yes…. coz it so cheap, u've two stop over.. Brunei and Dubai.. if i remember correctly

    • You are correct gaurangmp, they stop for two hours in Brunei (where you change planes - taking all your hand luggage) and then stop in Dubai for a further two hours. Brunei Airport is being redeveloped and has (as of Nov 2015) one coffee shop, a perfume kiosk and a souvenir kiosk. Not much to do except sit around and wait. Unfortunately the waiting time depends on the arrival of the connecting flight - my wife had to wait for over 5 hours on her trip. In Dubai you must go through security upon disembarking but at least there are coffee shops and plenty of other shops to peruse (no good bargains that I could find). The new planes are quite good with comfortable seats, inbuilt screens and sufficient leg room. If the flight doesn't appear to be full when checking in on-line, choose a seat near the rear and you may end up with all three seats to yourself.

        Woah. How's the future looking?

      • i remember checking skyscanner last year and some RB flites said only 1 stopover which was incorrect.
im wary of these cheap asian airlines after the malaysian and air asia incients.
gonna pay a bit more for a reputable established european airline now.

every stopover increases the chance of delays reaching your final destination plus raises stress and travel time.

  • Also I think they are using the dreamliner for certain flights. Brunei is boring as bat sh$# but other than the fact the airline is 'dry' I'd recommend RBA.

  • Great price for a pretty good airline. Woudl much prefer this to PR.

  • -1

    And Sydney?

  • Use code DIANPING. you can get $25 off.

  • +5

Good price, however considering it is owned and run by a government that violates human rights, I would probably think about paying the extra money to fly an airline that doesn't fund an oppressive regime. Personal choice though.

  • Cheapest price it comes up with from Brisbane to any European capital (London, Paris, Amsterdam) in June 2015 is $1730. Nothing around $1300. Has anybody found any better?

  • +2

I would highly recommend passing through immigration at Brunei airport. The main departures hall is brand new and theres multiple cafes, all of your favourite fast food joints + decent western toilets.
The visa on arrival fee is something like $5 and totally worth it IMHO.

  • Any suggestion for flight tickets from Perth?

    • +2

Cheapest I've found for Perth to Europe in June is $1165. You would have to book two separate tickets/legs however.

1st leg from Perth to Singapore return flying Jetstar - $277.
2nd leg from Singapore to Paris return fly Jet Airways (don't know much about them tbh) - $888

Alternatively, you can upgrade to Qatar Airways for the SIN-CDG leg, which adds $132 to the price.. but gives you a more reputable/well known airline and cuts 29 hours of layover both ways, which if you value your sanity is totally worth it. $1297 is a pretty decent price too, and you can add a few nights in Singapore one or both ways if you would like, which is a nice way to break up the trip.

  • Any idea when would be the best time to buy tickets for next year? Looking to go whenever as long as a I can get cheap tickets.

    • +1

Next year, as in 2016? If so, keep an eye out for early bird sales.. which generally come out around October. If you are looking for cheap tickets (as well as cheaper accommodation and less queues at attractions when you're over there), then consider travelling outside of peak in April-May or September. Only downside to that is that the weather won't be as warm, but can be a blessing if you are planning to spend a lot of time in the Italy/Spain/Greece/South France etc. where the humidity can be stifling during the height of summer.

      • Thanks, yes 2016. im from England so the weather doesn't bother me and as I haven't been back in 10 years I won't be doing much traveling inside or outside of England, I'll just be going to catch up with friends and family.

        • +1

Okay, well flights are only sold 12 months in advance, so probably a little early to start looking now. But keep an eye for the travel section in newspapers, on here etc from about May (perhaps sign up for alerts from iwantthatflight.com.au and adioso.com too) and if you travel outside of summer and school holidays, you should be able to pick up a flight for a decent price. If you ever see anything around the $1200 price point that suits your travel dates, I'd lock it in. Good luck :)

Any ideas on alternate routes to Paris or Amsterdam from Adelaide. I was looking into Adelaide - Bali - Amsterdam

    • You need to try to get your own way into a strategic transit hub like Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok, rather than a final destination like Bali to make the alternate route work. Unfortunately I'm not sure direct flights to such places on cheaper airlines out of Adelaide actually exist, so you won't be finding ~$300 return flights to any of those locations that make it feasible and you'll probably end up spending 5 or 6 hours in Perth or Melbourne, making it 15 or 16 hours just to get to South East Asia with another 10-20 hours to get to Europe on top of that.

    • For an alternatie route, take a Jetstar from Adelaide-Bali, then a Jukung from Bali-Amsterdam/Nice.

Looks like a good deal but I wouldnt fly Royal Brunei ever, flew once, from begining to end they read out koran.

  • Save on airfare…get stung on exchange rate while you're there. A$ sucks right now.

  • +2

Royal Brunei is a wholly state owned enterprise. Brunei state has introduced Sharia law in 2014 which establishes amputations and stoning as punishment. Torture according to international law. Worth considering before supporting this airline.

Couple of points to clarify after I flew last year.

Dreamliners are great to fly in. All Brunei flights to UK use these.

There is a 2 minute prayer video just before takeoff. No biggy.

In flight entertainment is lacking but there are power sockets (UK plug) and USB ports for your own devices

No alcohol, but we saw people take wine on board to drink and even put in the fridge. Air hostesses will do that for you. Food was ok, but repetitive.

Brunei Airport is dull as, still was being refurbed, but I doubt it will add much.
Only had 2 hour stopover, wouldn't want any more

All flights were on time. Flight times are pretty good.

Not sure I would fly again due to the extra stopover and politics as foxpro states. Having said that the prices are really tempting.
