    • +6

      Some will get lucky

      • And some will be driven to insanity when items mysteriously fall out of their carts, after F5'ing the CotD page hundreds of times when they're supposed to be enjoying a lunch break.

  • +2

There are too many of these type of sites clogging up ozbargain. Just because it's only available for a limited time doesn't make it a bargain.

  • +6

I hope COTD are reading this so you can see how crap and misleading we think these sales are.

  • +5

    eat horse crap COTD

  • +1 to crash of the day lol

  • typeing stuff to give negative vote….Awesome mate…yup agreed the sale sucks…

  • +3

Yaa I love these looks like my Wednesday nite will be taken up by pushing F5 don't plan on buying anything just like reading all the post from the whingers on here

    • I'm with you :)

Although you never know, you may well find something you like, I generally get something. Reading this thread is already amusing, half of the people negging will be hunched over their PC frantically pressing F5 tomorrow.

If you get hung up on the big ticket items, you probably will be disappointed, look for miscellaneous bargains, there are still some there (also some crap but still though).

I do agree that this isn't necessarily a bargain. It's more of an event. It's almost like there should almost be an event category for these deals (a bit like the freebie category).

  • lol, 12 neg votes and it hasn't even started

    • always the same… :)

  • -ve from me, they need to change those hamsters running their servers.

  • +11

I was one of those people that jumped on the Catch of the Day bandwagon when they first started. The first few things I bought were ok, but I certainly wouldn't call them a bargain. The last thing I bought was a robotic vaccum cleaner. It arrived broken and I emailed them, I was told to send it back and I did. I email again but got no answer. I emailed them several more times…still no answer. I called them and got an answering machine. I kept calling them about 50 times a day and answering machine everyday. After months I decided to contact fair trading. I didn't want to do this because I thought maybe they were just busy (I am too trusting) About a week later Fair Tading contacted me saying that they were also having trouble contacting them but they would keep trying. A few days later I got another call from fair trading saying they finally got in contact and they were to call me and arrange a refund. I receieved no phone call, so I email again and got "send us your credit card details" no appology or anything. I did not want to email them my details so I told them. They said it was the only way they would refund my money. I tried to call and got answering machine again. I contacted fair trading again and she after many attempts she called me back saying I have them on the line and I will put them through. They said they would refuind my money. But after another 2 weeks of checking my credit card still nothing. I called more times and actually got through to a person! And you know what he said??? "oh, your that bitch that called fair trading" I didn't say anything, I was stunned. He said "you'll get your refund" and hung up. I got my refund the next day. Overall it took about 6 months and I only got the item refund not the postage. I hate them and would never buy from them again.

It pains me when I see this on their blog:
Largest single day revenue: $1.54 Million Samsung LCD TVs
Largest one hour revenue: $1.1 Million Samsung LCD TVs
Largest quantity of items sold in one month: 139931 September 2009. That means on average every 18.52 seconds someone in Australia is catching an item at CatchOfTheDay.

I applaud the guy that wrote that blog and quit!

[Wall of Text] crits [OzBargain] for $42.

Cool story though. Have you read this?

      • +1

I did indeed, that was who I was referring to in my last sentence. ITs hard to notice in my long long post, sorry about that. :)

    • +1

“oh, your that bitch that called fair trading”

      They actually said this? Wow.

      • +1

Yep. I couldn't believe it. I didn't say anything, I was stunned.I wish I had a recorder or something at the time, but I wasn't expecting it.

    • -2

      Undeclared,

Please e-mail me your order number, I would like to examine the replies you received and speak to my team.

I'm not doubting your story, its just that if it did happen as you outlined above I need to know. Its appalling and not worthy of my team.

My e-mail address is [email protected]

      QQQ.

      • I will see if I can find my order number as it was something like 2 1/2 years ago!

Just out of curiosity, if you confirmed this…what exactly would happen? A slap on the wrist?

        • -1

That's not something I would discuss publicly.

          • +2

@QQQ - CatchOfTheDay: To be honest I was being rather sarcastic. I could take more time out of my life chasing up my order number, and emailing you etc but of what benefit would that be. Would I gain back those wasted months chasing up my refund? No. Would if reverse the fact that I was made to feel like I was a thieving customer? No. Would it reverse the way I felt after being called a bitch? No.
It will only take up more of my time and energy.

  • Thanks for posting inside info/horror stories on Catch of the Day.

Where's QQQ nowadays to comment on all this?

    • i think hes dropped ozbargain after we all got angry at him at the last event

      • +1

        I haven't, still been posting.

Anyway, take note of today's site performance. We've rolled it back in some areas, toned it down.

        • +2

          http://ayvah.livejournal.com/226435.html

Is this true QQQ? Did you go and just buy 10 Wiis from a retail shop and use them for bait?

          • -2

            @ShortyX: asdasd

            • @QQQ - CatchOfTheDay: it's not slander dude. It's a simple yes or no question. In the past, have you bought the main "catch" (Wii/ipod/ps3 etc) from a retail store?

              • -2

@Davo1111: To cut it short, no, its a load of rubbish.

Does our system sometimes shoot past allocated QTY - yes, in that event we have to source substitutes the quickest way possible. I.E retail.

We had to do this last week with some silly Banana Boat that had a miscount.

Either way, it won't be an ongoing problem once the site is rebuilt.

  • I got 6 x Half Island Chardonnay 2006 for a total cost of $15.90 (Melbourne delivery), will go well for the Christmas party we are having :)

  • I so want a chupa chup I wonder if it will be in date LOL

  • Hmmm, I've had pretty positive experiences buying from COTD. Not too much crap. I find some of the comments hereabove disturbing and symptomatic of the bad publicity that eventuates from not dealing properly with negative customer experiences. The net result is that IF any dealings that I have with COTD do go pear-shaped, they wont be cut any slack and I'm more likely to hit the 'escalate' button early.

Other e-tailers in the same market segment seem to do a much better job of managing customer expectations and handle problems quickly and with courtesy. Perhaps they understand the marketing lessons about the impact of annoyed customers on company reputation?

  • iPod is up, site responsive, stock not disappearing in the first second, good price. It's looking like a fun night :)

  • 4th Generation Ipod I heard…

  • I doubt there would be any really sweat deals today, COTD will speak it loud if there is any.

  • The ipods were sold out at about 2:15pm so they didn't last that long.

    • lol, I was thinking how great it was that they lasted until 2:15! :)

  • The servers haven't crashed yet so its faired pretty well. I had a chance to get the Ipod but it was 3rd Generation. I wish COTD would stock the Ipod Classics…..

  • No crashing servers…it's a miracle!

    EDIT: Ignore the above…they've crashed

  • 1 x Village Cinemas Off Peak Saver $2.95

    Sub-Total: $2.95
New South Wales Shipping (): $1.95
    Total (inc GST): $4.90

I thought about buying one to sell on ebay…. but couldn't be bothered lol

(I don't live near any of those cinemas).

    • Considering the double charges from Ebay and Paypal, you probably will lose money :)

  • Meh, bought one

EDIT: Can't complete the paypal transaction…crash

    • I had the same problem, had to go through Paypal login screen three times, but eventually it went through. Will keep an eye on my bank statement though after reading the story above!

  • Looks like the sites finally died.

    • Yep, Been trying to get through the PP confirmation thingie for 25mins with no luck

      • Same here…FAIL

  • Its dead…

  • I managed to get one with my account, so i thought i'd use my gf's account to get one as well. My ordering process was pretty smooth, no glitch at all only had to wait about 5 min at the 'confirm order' page, but still got the 'Order Confirmed' page.

As for using my gf's account, the site crashed at the final stage, so i tried again, and at the end of the page, after waiting for 20 min, i got the 'your cart is empty' page. But when i went into her 'Orders i have made' page, there are 2 orders for these tickets. Lol~

      got
We apologize for the inconvenience, but PayPal only accepts Visa, Master Card, Discover, and American Express. Please use a different credit card.

I was using a VISA card (which I've used many times before on the site)

  • My paypal confirm page didn't load…oh well, no money for COTD.

  • same old COTD tricks again!!
meh not suprising. It was only a matter of time until the same sort of thing as the 'great ninentdo wii crash of '08' started happening again

  • lol and so the servers resume their load with sold out. so did anyone happen to catch any of the village cinemas tickets?

    • I didn't, but lol I tried to get one of the shirts and went to the checkout page which still has the movie tickets stuck in there and no sign of the shirt!

      Ahhh ya gotta laugh!

Update on that… the movie ticket confirmation just went through at 5.30pm :) So I got one!

    • I did - but I don't know how (cause I finished checkout after the hour ended)

    • lol, i got 2 tickets from the same accounts =/ thought they crashed so i kept tryin and tryin xD!

  • Yay finally got my Reebok shirt lol
The one I bought last month was great (although it was only $5.95 postage and not 6.95 like this one).

    • So they're not the beach cricket ones?

  • +1

size of the Reebok shirt is either L, XL or XXL, picked RANDOMLY!

Something is wrong, I thought the poster says 'Movie Tickets $1.95'
Howcome the Village tickets were $2.95?
    Any idea?

    • You're right…probably just more baiting

  • The shirts sound like the same beach cricket ones
