So my Grandparents came from England. Does this mean I can't track my family any further back than this as they aren't "Australian records"?

    • I dont think so

    • Not with this deal, but can always use https://familysearch.org

    • I was just on - I entered in Great Grandfathers name and got hints from England so I say give it a shot.

Problem with ancestry is you really need the names and dates already to find much.

I wonder how well this works with my surname being "Nguyen". Who knows I might be a long lost royal prince.

  • Unfortunately not many asian countries have good / any records. Often was reliant on family history which generally gets lost. I say find what you can from living relatives while you can.

  • Any other tips from Ozbargargainers who've looked into this stuff?
Checking out https://familysearch.org/ from above cheers. Any other useful sites? Particularly to unite my own tree with someone else's research?

  • yep good post..i am researching my ancestry and also if tightarse and tightbottom are related

  • Its asking for a CC even if i click start free trial. So I gave up and closed the sign up before finishing. Still got an email saying I'd signed up. So I clicked the link and it took me straight to the CC info page again.

  • Very dodgy, signed up, wanted CC details, gave them as i trust the site as my grandma used to use it, checked my account today they have taken $1.. I know it's not a lot of money but free is meant to be free.

They also do the "free trial, but after the trial ends if you don't remove CC details we will charge you a massive lump sum fee." scam. If it isn't a scam Ancestry.com.au, default it to the smaller monthly payments not the annual lump sum payment.

Yeah thanks but no thanks, very unaustralian for an Australia day deal and a good way to lose your companies good reputation.

  • I have researched Shane Warne's history and it is officially comfirmed that he is a Bogan
