Think this is a better deal! http://www.lasoo.com.au/offer/small-home-appliances/sodastre…

    $159 + $19.99 + syrup pods for $99!

    • Yeah wow, I'm glad you posted that before I went through the checkout!

EDIT: In store only by the looks. Extra bottles are a big plus though.

From my quick math, you have to spend more in purchasing additional items with the $69 Genesis Green as if you pay the $12.50 delivery. This is because the $75 cap excludes GST, which is $7.41 for just the Genesis.

It's roughly ~$15.00 to bring it over the $75 threshold, or 4 of the on-sale Syrups @ $3.75 each. The more items you add the more GST increases as well, so you do have some diminishing returns. If you just want the machine pay the shipping I think.

    SodaStream Consumer ALERT
SodaStream profits from the exploitation of an occupied, impoverished and captive labour force in an illegal settlement on stolen Palestinian land.

OzBargainers may be interested to know what Oxfam, the international aid and social justice organisation, had to say about SodaStream:

"Oxfam believes that businesses, such as SodaStream, that operate in settlements, further the ongoing poverty and denial of rights of the Palestinian communities that we work to support."
"Oxfam is opposed to all trade from Israeli settlements, which are illegal under international law."

And here's what Human Rights Watch (HRW), the international human rights organisation, had to say about SodaStream:

"The very existence of (Israeli settlements) amounts to a serious violation of international law," the New York-based Human Rights Watch said in a statement on Wednesday.
"It is impossible to ignore the Israeli system of unlawful discrimination, land confiscation, natural resource theft, and forced displacement of Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, where SodaStream is located," the rights group added.

Whoever down votes comments like this is an idiot. Not wanting to make an informed decision is appalling.

500 Arab Israelis and 450 Palestinians lost their jobs when SodaStream closed their factory on said disputed land due to this old spiteful campaign.
"Informed" people like you do more to divide than learn the truth due to your hateful predispositions.
        Please stop knocking Jewish companies.
NB I'm Muslim if it matters.

you get negs and the deal get plus simply because of the crap you and 1bug go on about in every SS deal

        • I don't think 1bug cares Shavi.

They alternate between attacking Sodastream for being on stolen land and demanding a factory closure which they've been told time and time again has happened but still persist in posting these so called alerts. When challenged about it, plan B is usually to claim that their opposition to Sodastream is over the rights of dismissed workers, while at the same time contradictingly demanding the closure of a facility that employed 500 Palestinians, 450 Israeli Arabs and 350 Israeli Jews.

I'm calling BS on 1Bug's sympathy, and reckon this'll still be happening once the West Bank factory is fully decommissioned and the remaining 12 facilities in Israel (inside the green line), Germany, Sweden, the U.S., Australia, China and South Africa produce the entirety of their product line.

          @tplen1:

Until SodaStream moves its main factory from illegally occupied territory that belongs to another people (an occupied people it exploits), then it is in contravention of both international law and truth-in-labelling laws, and the international boycott will continue.

Furthermore, SodaStream should reinstate the 60 Palestinian workers it unlawfully fired, or alternatively pay them fair compensation in lieu of employment.

SodaStream should either feed its own staff with sufficient rations or allow them to bring their own food (SodaStream prohibits employees from bringing their own food because of Jewish dietary laws).

What a strange response. Firstly, no, I couldn't care less if you're Muslim. Secondly, neither the fact that you're Muslim or your evident aversion to logic justify the rubbish that you posted. Putting to one side the question of how a corporate personality can subscribe to any religion or be of any ethnic background, the suggestion that boycotting SodaStream is "attacking" a "Jewish" company is absurd. It's also entirely dishonest and defamatory.

        • -1

          @tplen1:

I'm calling BS on the suggestion that because SodaStream has indicated that it will react to BDS pressure, then BDS pressure must stop. It works, it will continue. Moreover, the factory is not closed so, besides the hyperbole, you don't actually have a point. Your apparent highlighting of "contradictions'

As to the employment of Palestinians, Apartheid South Africa employed lots of black South Africans too. The suggestion that any "bridges" can be built between "communities" is utterly ridiculous until borders are defined and Palestinian dignity and freedom restored.

        • @dzhay:

You're putting words in my mouth there dzhay. I merely said that 1bug claims to be attacking Sodastream on BDS grounds, even though the company has relented to BDS campaign and is decommissioning their only facility outside the 67 borders.

I did not comment on the legitimacy of BDS or boycotting in general and it is disingenuous to suggest I did. If 1bug decides to boycott other companies that were operating in the West Bank that's entirely their prerogative, and as SodaStream's case shows this strategy can be effective.

My beef with the stance on SodaStream after they've bowed to pressure is the general message it sends to companies in similar situations. If you boycott a company because they fail to do "X", they acquiesce, and you continue to boycott, it tells them there is no economic or moral incentive to change, and sends the wrong message to others that might consider making amends.

By all means, continue to boycott the firm (or other companies operating in the WB, or factories with abhorrent working conditions in China, or Australian companies operating on land stolen from its indigenous people, or whatever else floats your boat), but if you don't change your tune after a company acts upon pressure, it becomes increasingly hard to defend as a principled stance rather than a one-eyed, hypocritical and probably racist vendetta.

        • @tplen1:

Well, articulated in that way, you make a very good point, redemption must be possible. It could start as soon the factory shuts. Having said that, Israeli society is complicit in a very direct way in the occupation of Palestine, and I personally think that a blanket boycott is justified. (Obviously a blanket boycott would not achieve what has been achieved in this case), and supporting BDS is a compromise I can personally reconcile.

As to the allegation of potential racist motivations, I think that's stretching it badly. Whether or not it's actually your view, it needs to be called out. I find the hyper-vigilance against racism directed at Israel to be entirely disingenuous. Israel is a transparently racist society that occupies, subjugates, steals from and kills Palestinians (as well as the Golan Heights), and yet for some unknown reason we have to carefully inspect the motivations of those who point that out. Numerous members of the Israeli government are on the record saying racist things. The entire Israeli political/military discourse is crypto-racist.

And, if racially motivated impediments to the free commerce bother you, then you'd be better off focusing your concerns on the blockade of Gaza, or the denial of water to WB Palestinians etc. The list is almost endless.

The concern for Israel only makes sense if there is something special about (for better or worse), which there isn't. It should be called to account for its actions as a putatively Western, democratic state.
