Cottee's cordials will be on sale at Woolies on Wednesday, which works out much cheaper…

    • +1

NOT the same!! Cordials = heaps of sugar

      • Soda doesn't?

        • This is SODASTREAM not just plain soda, do read the header please.

        • @Reddog888:
I thought Sodastream created soda? Isn't that the point of it?

        • I can't tell if this is trolling or serious questions.

        • -1

          @damion:
Funny, I was thinking the same about Reddog888.

          EDIT: Did a Google. http://www.menshealth.com/weight-loss/sodastream-it-really-h…
Ok, so they are marketed as 'healthy'. Sure are gullible people out there, still a lot of sugar.

        • @PainToad:
you can choose not to put in anything that has sugar.

          carbonated tea anyone?

        • @PainToad:

You really need to do a lot better research or … just go away.

        • -2

          @slowmo:

          carbonated tea anyone?

          Caffeine anyone?

        • @slowmo:

you can choose not to put in anything that has sugar.

There are now sugar free Cottee's too…

        • @PainToad:

what's life that is worth living if you can't drink a bit of caffeine?

        • @jv:
this device is handy if you ran out of tonic water…. and just need carbonated water as a sub.

i'm not a fan of cordials, it's a time consuming pointless exercise. might as well take 2 teaspoon straight and chase with tap water and let the stomach do the mixing.

  • Cottee's doesn't do Caffeinated Cola, Ginger Ale or Tonic though.
Does anyone know any alternatives for those flavours?

    • -1

Does anyone know any alternatives for those flavours?

      I like Lime Coola…

      • +1

Alternatives to the sodastream brand, not alternatives to the flavours :P

        • -1

Have you tried using a Keg with gas injection ?

        • There is no real direct alternative to Sodastream units except for an old fashioned soda siphon. I use a Mykegsonlegs 6.5kg CO2 cylinder which costs $50 to exchange at brewers stores. This makes the cost of using a sodastream system much more economical.

        • I'm just looking for alternatives to those 3 sodastream syrup flavours, not the machine.
Apparently getting genuine coke or pepsi syrup in small quantities is impossible.

        • +1

          Hi Reddog888

Where do you get the 6.5kg CO2 cylinder from and how much? Was looking for ages.

        • @damion:

Can get them on ebay from the USA. But I think the SodaStream Cola Syrup tastes better than Coke anyway.

        • @damion:

I got mne from Greensborough Home Brewing Supplies and was around $170 with a fill i.e. came full but that was several years ago. They are now around $295.

Just look up this search for sales and exchange sites near you. I suggest you go and have a look.

You will also need to order a 'neck adapter' from an industrial gas supplier (like BOC) as the thread on the Mykegsonlegs cylinder valve (and other CO2 bottles) is a special type CGA 320. The adapter looks like a nut with a pipe sticking out the end. The pipe rotates freely until the nut is tightened onto the CO2 cylinder. There is a nylon washer in the nut to seal the fitting. Never use a rubber washer here it will freeze and crack then leak. The pipe has a threaded end.

DO NOT get conned into buying a regulator as they do not work in this setup and are totally unnecessary.

Then you can use a 'water' or gas flexible stainless steel braided hose (15mm) to connect, like the type shown here, DO NOT use a handheld shower cheap type as these are not rubber lined and reinforced. Remember CO2 is under considerable pressure.:
          https://www.masters.com.au/product/902503712/abey-mixer-hose…

In addition you need several standard 15mm plumbing fittings to bridge between the ends of the flexible hose and the CO2 neck adaptor. You have to remove the back cover from the sodastream dispenser, screw in the male end of the flexible hose and then fix the other end to the 'neck adaptor'. Ensure that there is the nylon washer in the fitting when it is screwed to the CO2 cylinder.

        • Great. Thanks guys. Could not find bottles in WA. Will check it out.
Found these adapters at Keg King but contacting them is impossible:

    FALSIFIED Country-of-Origin Labelling ALERT
SodaStream FALSELY labels its products as "Made in Israel" despite its main production facility being located in Mishor Edomin, an illegal settlement in the Israeli occupied West Bank.
That's why SodaStream is subject to international boycott — http://www.codepink4peace.org/section.php?id=470

Most consumers would never consider COUNTERFEIT products as bargains,
and neither would they consider products with FALSIFIED country-of-origin labels, as bargains.

    • +2

      No need to complain anymore.
      Boycott successful.
They're moving next year or something.

illegal settlement in the Israeli occupied West Bank.

OMG!! I thought they were Australian ???

    • EDIT: No point.

Interestingly, I was in Kmart today buying a Diet Cola SodaStream syrup bottle (the Target store in the same centre was new and didn't seem to have anything SodaStream) and the new SodaStream bottles are now 750ml. Perhaps these old 500ml bottles are being cleared for good, and replaced with larger ones. I paid $7.50 for a 750ml bottle, so 75c per 100ml. Seemed reasonable for an "everyday" price. And the Diet Cola syrup tastes good too :)

    • +1

      $1 per 100ml, or $10 litre.

      $7.50 for 750ml.

      • Yes, right you are. Should have said 75c per 75ml :) Or even 1c per 1ml :)

    • No they are not being 'cleared' as they have only recently constructed new displays in Target and given Sodastream its own expanded area. Also Sodastream have only just introduced an expanded range of flavours to Australia. Target only have the 'standard' flavours in 500 ml size. So, I do not believe they are being cleared.

NOTE: The most widely available size is the 500 ml. Check the dilution requirements of both the 750 and 500 ml sizes. The 500 ml produces 12 litres of drink. BUT last time I purchased some the 750 only made 6 litres, so the concentration is far less in the 750 ml size and hence the end product costs far more per litre when you use the 750 ml size. I think the 750 ml size is a grey parallel import, but I am not sure on this.

      • Ok fair enough. The 750ml bottles do say they make up to 18L of drink, which would indicate the same dilution as per the 500ml. The diet cola 750ml bottle I got was certainly less thick than the others, but this might be due to the fact it has no sugar and might well just be less thick because of that. I didn't really check the normal sugar'd syrups in the 750ml bottles and shake them to see if they were thinner.

        • I happened to go near a Target this morning so decided to look f they had the 750 ml bottles. They did have a limited range and the bottle clearly stated 'makes 6 litres' so it would appear that it is inconsistent. So the message is check before you buy!

I also found that even when you used the correct quantity of the 750 ml variety, i.e. to make the right strength, the flavour was not the same as the 500 ml variety. Interesting. So now I stick to the 500 ml. But I have found that they do change the taste of the cola from time to time. Not happy about that as it takes a little time to get use to the new taste.

Yes I have found the diet versions of all flavours, especially the cola, to be very watery.

        • @Reddog888:

Ok I haven't come across those yet. This 750ml Sugar Free Cola bottle I got from Kmart clearly states makes up to 18L of drink. I had a glass yesterday at close to the recommended ratio (same ratio as I do with the 500ml syrups anyway) and it tasted good, and didn't taste like it needed more flavouring.

Need to find a Target store that stocks Dr. Pete flavour now.

        • @PCAviator:

I don't know where you are located, but I did see some at Target The Pines in Lower Templestowe Victoria. This may help.

        • @Reddog888:

Thanks. I'm in Brisbane. Checked the two closest Target stores here. Springwood had none, but they did have a pretty good variety of other flavours. Garden City - I couldn't find the SodaStream products anywhere at all there. Not sure if they have them. Will try other stores when I happen to be driving past.
