    +$16 shipping melb.

    • +3

And Sydney. Totally kills it unless you're after more than 1. (2 still charged at $16, but don't know how many you could get away with).

  • +5

Reviving the Microsoft Cashback, aye OP? BTW Wireless is cheaper elsewhere, e.g. http://www.umart.com.au/umart1/pro/Products-details.phtml?id…

    • -2

That's the Xbox 360 controller designed for use on Microsoft Windows. But i suppose it can also be used on the Xbox 360 console itself.

      • +3

@hollykryten what's the difference. Aren't they both able to be used with PCs wirelessly (wireless version) ? I'm confused.

        • Yeah you're right that's true. I suppose it's just marketing. When i said designed i should have really meant marketed for Microsoft Windows.

        • +2

There is no difference between the wired versions. It's just the packaging and the PC version used to come with a CD (the contents of which you can download off the website anyway). The wireless PC version has an additional usb receiver which is required to play on pc. If you want to use the wireless 360 controller on PC then you need to get the for windows/PC version (unless of course you already have the usb receiver because it supports up to 4 controllers)

Edit: Since this is only a bargain because of the cash back deal you should only get the pc version even if you want it for your xbox 360

        • @hollykryten:

I'm looking to get a controller for my PC - what do I need? I have a standard one for my xbox, but assuming I need an adapter..?

        • @Andy-Laa:
yes, i bought 2 wireless ones and came with usb recievers for the pc.
so much nicer having wireless controllers for playing in bed, without worrying about the wires getting pulled out of the ports and then the usb hubs sometimes dont recognise when you put them back in.

        • +1

          @Andy-Laa:

          This —-> http://www.computeralliance.com.au/microsoft-xbox-360-wirele…

Only $19 after cashback which shouldn't break the bank too much.

      • +1

What are you talking about? Only the windows version gets cashback. Why bring up non windows version?

        • Yes it seems only what's marketed as the Xbox 360 controller for Windows (also works on the Xbox 360 controller itself obviously since it's the Xbox 360 controller) that gets the cashback.

        • +1

@hollykryten: cmon, you're as old as ozbargain itself. you should know this :)

    • Does the one in your link also get cashback? If so, how much?

      • +1

You get a cashback of $20 for the wireless version.

Scroll to the bottom of the cashback page. It lists the SKU as well as the amount.

Cheers mate, $17+Shipping for the wireless version at Umart.

          -EDIT-

Actually is Umart participating in this? It's not included in the cash back page.

          -EDIT 2-

Nevermind, it is ok to purchase from Umart according to the terms

        • +1

@ProjectZero: yep. picked two up yesterday and have submitted 2 cashback forms. now i wait for eneloops

  • +5

So in the end you still pay $24 for the controller. :(

  • Is this the best deal out at the moment for the wireless version?

    • No .. look ay umart

      • Whereabouts?

  • +3

Anyone else notice that M$ refund the wireless controller on the RRP of $49.95, but sell it for $59.95.

  • +1

Aw this is sad, I was hoping to get the wireless one but with that crazy shipping (and on umart too) it's not worth it

    • +2

so find a retailer closer to you

      • I wonder if I could get a local store to price match…hmmmmmm

        • +1

has to be the SPECIFIC serial name, AND only elegible sellers. go look at the details on their cashback.

  • +2

Umart has it for $25, but shipping only costs $7 if you choose Fastway. (at least for Sydney 2000). Works out to $16 after cashback.

    http://umart.com.au/umart1/pro/Products-details.phtml?id=10&…

    • They show <5 stock atm.
I just use their customer pc terminal in store (or mobile) at pickup.

  • How to use the wireless one with Computer?

    • +1

      comes with a usb dongle

    • +2

Comes with USB wireless dongle and some software to make it work.

      • +2

        Plug and Play on Windows.

    • +1

      Need a wireless receiver.

Edit: which comes with the controller lol

      • OK, the reason I asked because I already have two XBOXs and 4 wireless controllers. So I don't need another one but may need a dongle. May be cheaper to get the wireless controller with dongle than buy a dongle lol.

        • +1

It would be. They don't sell it separately anymore and haven't for about 8 years (although you can get third party ones off ebay)

        • +1

          @yargnairod:
I got the wireless dongle off ebay. Works fine once you find the right driver (W7Pro 64bit for me) but the wireless range is poor, only 1.5m maybe. Wonder if the official dongle is any better?

        • @orza:

Range must vary, I probably sit about 2-2.5m away.

Do agree about the drivers though, the CD thy came with mine were useless, but when I asked on Whirlpool I was able to get it to work.

  • +1

Thanks OP, Perfect timing for me, went to play the xbox the other day and both my controllers are stuffed so just ordered two to pickup.

  • -2

Hm guys this is pretty important, but it says

"Purchase Microsoft PC accessories from any participating Australian retailer between 20.12.2014 and 1.2.2015."

Below they only have listed the big retails like dick and JB.. dont thnk you can buy from any online store.

    • +1

MSY have advertised deals using cash back.

    • +2

      No not any store.

Participating stores for the offer are Harvey Norman, Domayne, Joyce Mayne, JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, Dick Smith, Officeworks, Bing Lee, Big W,EB Games, MSY Technology Pty Ltd, Officemax Australia Ltd, Centre Com Sunshine Pty Ltd, Computer Alliance, Austin Computers, Leading Edge Group Ltd, PLE Computers, Umart Online, Compuworld.

That said, PLE have the wireless controller for $16 after cashback http://www.ple.com.au/ViewItem.aspx?InventoryItemId=601486 (UMart for $17) + delivery

  • +4

    • But it said this here "Purchase any Microsoft PC accessory from a participating Australian retailer with a current Australian Business Number (ABN)"

      • Your point is?

      • "Purchase any Microsoft PC accessory from a participating Australian retailer with a current Australian Business Number (ABN)"

  • -2

Dick Smith also doing it for $25 before $16 if you can find stock.

    http://www.dicksmith.com.au/xbox-360/xbox-360-wired-controll…

    Also similar price everywhere else.

    http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=360+control…

    • I'm pretty sure most, if not all, Dick Smith stores stopped stocking them a while ago

  • Was about to jump on this until the ridiculous shipping to Darwin.

  • $16 shipping to WA Metro, $22 WA Regional. Kinda kills the deal.

    • +1

Why get it shipped to WA? Just buy from PLE :)

  • -1

    From https://www.microsoft.com.au/cashback/

    *Excludes Xbox and Surface accessories.

So does this qualify for cashback? Can anyone please confirm?

    • +2

The product, its SKU and cashback account are all in the cash back page if you take a look.

Multiple deals for these controllers have been posted and no one has had a problem claiming (myself included).

      • Thanks for clarifying.

  • It does scroll to the bottom of the page you just quoted.

  • Sweet, just ordered one of each to pick up from UMart. Will be $33 all up after cash back.

  • Delivery to Melbourne kills this. Better to find a closer store I guess.

  • Delivery is way to expensive

  • +1

Looks like PLE is the best bet in Perth; is there a way to use the wireless controller in wired mode; or is in only battery powered? if so how long do batteries last; tossing up between wired and wireless…

Edit: Or is that where the play and charge thing fits in i.e. http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msaus/en_AU/pdp/Xbox-360…

    • +1

Just get some eneloop batteries from Dick Smith next time they're on special. They work great in these controllers.

      • +1

        good call, thanks

  • Can you do multiple cash back per address?

    • Maximum three claims per person.

  • +1

PLE worked out the best option for me (country VIC shipping 12.65). Just ordered the wireless. Thanks OP

  • +1

Hey I'm really interested in getting two controllers for my PC, but I need some help before I purchase, can someone please help me with these questions below?

    • Can I get two controllers and get 2x the Cash-Back?

    • If so, Which of these would be the better option:

Get 2 wired controllers from Computer Alliance for $24 each (+ $16 shipping to me) = $32 after Cash-Back

(Do I have my maths correct for this?)

    Or….

Get 2 wireless controllers from PLE for $36 each (+ $11 shipping to me) = $43 after Cash-Back

    • Is the wireless worth the extra $11 and do they come with the receiver and work well?

I'm a bit confused as to why Microsoft Cash-Back says 40%, but cash back on Computer Aliance and PLE claims more? Not complaining obviously, just wondering if they have this right?

    ****Update****

Just been researching the Wireless version, looks like a lot of people recomend the wired because its so much easier and reliable for most people. Plus your sitting right there. maybe I should just got for the wired ones…

    • +1

I think there is a limited of 3 pp so 2 should be fine?

If you have a look at redemption page it say "Buy Microsoft PC accessories and get 40% cash back on RRP." so the 40% off would be off RRP i.e. $16/$20

I have been looking as well and tossing up between wired and wireless; comes down to personal preference I guess.

      • that's why I'm getting one of each lol

        • +2

hah buying stuff because it's cheap, good old ozbargain!

        • Wired all the way!!!

        • @Williamblom: Just pulled the trigger on 2 wired controllers from Computer Aliance!

After shipping and Cash-Back they will work out to cost me $16 each, Das is good!

Shame Dick Smith didn't have any stock for a click & collect, because they would have only cost $8.95 each! But still very happy with the price on these.

          Thanks to the op :)

      • +1

Thanks hippy, really appreciate your help!

I found these pages talking about wired vs wireless if it helps:

        http://www.howtogeek.com/182825/why-you-should-get-an-xbox-3…

        http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24877…

        http://www.gamespot.com/forums/pc-mac-discussion-1000004/360…

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPAVYEuWCkY

Still not sure myself, but I think I am leaning towards wired ones, because the only real advantage I can think of with the wireless is that I might (and it's not that likely) find them useful if I ever setup a mini PC in my lounge room, but that could be years away!

Other than that the ease of setup and no need for batteries (plus cheaper price) is making me think the wired ones are just the wiser option. Especially if I get the wireless ones and end up cursing the day I bought them because they give me problems!

        • hah yeah i'm in exactly the same boat; no real need for wireless, other than the Maybe future mini pc; and not having wires about the place.

Seems like wired is the way to go to start, although local PLE prices are less good $39 - $16 = $23… not bad, but still much more than the $8 other people get :P

        • @Hippy:

Hah, that's funny and good to know I'm not the only one who is thinking of a MAYBE mini PC. Personally been "thinking" about one for years! By the time I actually get one, these controllers will probably be obsolete!

So in keeping with my more recent commitment to do things that make more sense and are easier, I just ended up getting the wired ones earlier today.

Hope you end up getting the ones that are best for you, because it is a really good deal atm.

Can anyone confirm whether only those stores mentioned can claim cash back or any store with Aust ABN?

  • Brisbane to Gold Coast $14 shipping
    :-/

  • So to recap, the cheapest price in Vic is from:

    Computer Alliance $24 + $16 shipping = $24.
Jb Online only $38 = $24.49 after cashback.
Dicks Smith $25 In store only & no stock in Vic.
    Umart $32 + $11 shipping = $27 after cashback.
HN only shows from what I can see is the wireless version.

So unless I'm missing something the cheapest for Vic is JB HiFI or CA at $24?
    Or is there cheaper?

Am I right in saying you cant pick up from Umart? (Glen Waverly)

    • +1

Shipping for 2 will be $16 from CA…Why not jump in with a friend and just have 1 claim the cashback (then transfer to the other on payment)? So $16 each delivered after cashback :)

      • No one that I know wants or needs 1 of them :(
        I need more friends.
        Thanks for the idea/comment thou.

        • +1

          Sell 1 later? :)

  • Dick smith wireless $20 after cash back. All sold out :(

    • It looks like PLE gets the runner up at $27 after cash back incl. delivery and in stock. Not too bad I guess, only 7 bux more :/ Although I note it's an older model (JR9-00012) compared to the current model (JR9-00006). I wonder what they changed…

    • Actually the controller being sold by Dick Smith, JB, EB and Harvey Norman for $59 is just the standard 360 wireless controller without any PC compatibility. So $27 for the wireless PC version, I think, is a great deal. The only place I could even find stock of the PC version was at Gametraders and their price is $89 and no room to haggle.

      • Just to clarify, EB do sell the wireless PC one with the wireless adapter (the red package).

I purchased two from Uni Hill in Victoria price matched to Centrecom $59.95 down to $44 each. Had $40 in gift cards so after cash back will have only cost me $8 for two controllers. Was pretty stoked with that 😀

  • Is anyone having a problem with the cashback page?

  • I went to Umart today and picked up a wired and wireless.

    After cashback the wired will be $25 - $16 = $9
    and the wireless + receiver will be $37 - $20 = $17

Bargains. The wireless receiver is worth more than that alone.

  • Can I ask if this is only for the pc version or does it include the wireless 360 version(that works directly with 360 without USB adapter).

    • I believe just the PC version as the other one would have a different item code.

  • Just spoke to the cash back promotions people (Promtel) and they had mistakenly put me down for 2 x $16 even though I ordered 2 wireless controllers. I've emailed them to try to get it corrected. I advise checking your cash back amount to ensure they've done it for the correct product.

    • UPDATE: Turns out the Microsoft website lists both the wireless and wired controllers as "Part number: JR9-00006", possibly leading to the confusion.

Promtel have escalated the issue to Microsoft so we'll have to wait and see what happens.
