  • I'm looking for one as well.. Does anyone has any comment on this guys?

      They are really, really expensive.

They say they have no hidden fees, but they will do a cubic weight measurement of your shipment and charge you more than you expect.

      • 。。。。。 I hate cubic weight:( Thanks.

Any idea what shipping costs are like?

  • Have you considered Shopmate? It's also free and since it's run by Auspost it's (presumably) going to be cheaper than any third parties.

    • -1

Is Shopmate in the US as well?

    • +13

Shopmate is the biggest ripoff. It is more expensive than buying the item locally. Look for its horror stories on Whirlpool forum.

    • +3

Didn't know about shopmate and had a look. They offer free US address but still impose the "Australia tax"….
      Repacking - $5.00
Holding fee - USD $1.50 per day, up to 21 days.

      500g works out about 1.1 lbs - $30+ bucks…

in my view Shopmate is more of a reseller for one of those services in US with margin on top….

      • +4

Your Shopmate info is a bit misleading.

Repacking applies ONLY if the cost is cheaper to ship.
The holding fee applies AFTER the 21 days storage.
        500g is $24.95 (base rate) + $5.95 per 500g

        more info here: https://shopmate.auspost.com.au/our-rates/shipping-rates

like anything, you need to do your research to see the best options.

          Is that you Gerry?

tried a neato xv-21 from amazon and the cheapest shipping was DHL Express (2-3 business days)

    Shipping cost : US$123.92

shipito was about US$85 when I bought 12 months ago.

happy for others to give their comparisons

  • FWIW……….From their site :

    There are NO hidden fees:

    NO Membership fees
    NO Handling or Processing Fees
    NO Fuel Surcharge Fees
    NO Assisted Purchase Fees
    NO Repackaging Fees
    NO Consolidation Fees
    NO Storage Fees
    NO Discard/Trashing Fees
    NO Commercial Invoice Fees
    NO Customs paperwork preparation Fees
NO Higher shipping fees for Non-Premium members

Doesnt look like USPS shipping is an option

      What about rustproofing?

      • Upvoted for lols. No sense of humour mr downvoter?…

      • But I don't want rust proofing. I said I don't want it.

It's your lucky day today sir. My boss said he can take off $100.

  • I am also concerned about the shipping cost as I wanted to buy a telescope (18kg), per lbs it seems viato is cheapest across myus, shipito etc. Not sure about shopmate

Regardless of how I buy…it'll still cost me a fortune in delivery charges…and GST :'(

Edit: just saw a table on the website with shipping cost comparison. maybe have a look and decide.

      http://www.ustooz.com/
Oz owned and operated. Know nothing about it but saw an article in the SMH so whacked it into my bookmarks. Might be worth a squiz.

      • Wait. SMH is a reputable guide? lol

        • If it isn't, what is - the Courier Fail? lol lol

@Possumbly: I'd say neither of them are..

        • @walugi: don't be shy. tell us what is?

        • -2

@Possumbly: Your own independent research, crowd sourced opinions from people who are incentivised by advertising i.e. forums. If you're looking at shipping speciality items like car parts then research within those communities.

          Pretty basic.

        • +1

@walugi: I'm on a forum (a few actually). I wouldn't give a fig for any opinion "incentivised by advertising" - which is the antithesis of "independent research". Have another shot.

    • Have you thought about going to USA for a holiday and bringing it back as carry on [if it's small enough] or as checked luggage?
Might be another idea to take advantage of if you can take some time off too :)

  • +1

FWIW I just did a quick comparison on a "shoebox", 4kg.
Shopmate was about 20% cheaper than viabox

Thanks roseyhead for the Shopmate info as i never knew it existed.

    • I almost thought I was right about Shopmate. Looks like I need to double check my calculation with my telescope dimensions.

      • Get a much shorter box if you take the lens out…

  • +1

I have used shipito a few times and am very happy with them. Good shipping prices & very little fees (like US$1)

  • +2

Still good for free - even if you never use it and just want a comparison of prices.
    Thanks OP!

  • Thanks

  • +3

guys - fwiw please take a look at whirlpool, there are no good things to be said about shopmate

    edit - link:

  • +2

I've used shipito for solo packages and hopshopgo if I have to combine/consolidate shipments.

    • I've always been impressed with HopShopGo. Has never taken a full week to get to my door after shipping instructions and pricing seems reasonable.

  • Can you divert your mail to this service?

    • It says you can in the FAQ BUT I don't know how much it costs, I saw no option for mail/envelopes in the cost calculator. I would be interested in the service solely for the mail, too.

  • anyone tried postrope ?

    • +2

I gave it a go and listed two ropes. Got a few comments but never had a single offer

      • +1

LOL - I am knot pleased with your jests.

  • +1

All that other no fees stuff is handy BUT the key thing is their shipping rates.

I'd highly suggest the OP pop up some apples with apples comparisons e.g 20cm x 20cm x 20cm - 1kg package worth $USD50 - with a few of the other forwarders otherwise it's counterproductive to save a few dolalrs on fees but pay 30% more for postage.

  • Anyone know anything about renting a virtual office and if this could be used in place of a mail forwarder?

From what I understand these things operate from a US address (sometimes in a swanky part of town as one reason to use these things is to make your company appear larger than it is). Operators handle multiple businesses by taking calls and scanning and posting physical mail to the client.

    Just floating the idea.

    • I got the OZB 3-year free office space membership thingy at Regus about a year ago (through the German site, yay!). They have office addresses for mail if you want, all around the world. Not sure how the price compares with others though.

  • Would not recommend them, I've used them before and it took around nearly 2 weeks to send out my stuff, even though I paid instantly on arrival. They also overcharged me on shipping, I saw the invoice on the package and it was like $85 for shipping, but they charged me $140. They said they'll look into it and months later, no response. I just ended up cancelling my account, because I was done with them. A truly terrible experience and communication took 2-3 days to get a reply. It was absolutely terrible.

  • Rubbish customer service, may knock your stuff off, stupid high fees, should be consigned to the bin. AVOID.

  • Most stores offer international shipping, is it still better to use a forwarder? Or are forwarders still for the guys who don't/irregular sized items?
