[Re-Edit: Old link expired as of 17/1 9am, but new link still valid]

$100 and $200 denominations are available. It says you can buy up to 10. Whether that is 10 of each denomination, or 10 altogether, seems to be vague.

BIG W eGift Card is valid for 12 months from the issue date.

Since I missed out on the Entertainment Book ones, I was glad to grab these.

Hurry! Limited time offer. Must end on 1 Feb 2015 or until sold out

  • Heads up from a friend who knows a thing or two…

Woolworths have dramatically increased their sales targets for gift cards. This means the push is on for sales in whatever way possible so this sort of thing is likely to become more common. It's why a number of providers have now got 5% as standard for eGift cards.

JB are terrified of going DTC for fear it'll be abused, but they're in a similar boat.

    • Even Woolies having been discounting their own gift cards. Makes you wonder what the sinister plan is re: gift cards.

      • Except a grab for market share against Coles. Company gift cards are the easiest way to lock in shoppers to that business. Even after this deal, so many will still shop at Woolies - through conditioning. The more gift cards sold, generally the longer they lock you in for. Mean time, Woolies gets cheap injection of funds.

    • Are you saying that 10% discount on egift cards might be coming soon? A reward for those waiting out for a better deal.

    • +1

      DTC?

    • coles haven't been getting much of my business lately with all the discounts being offered by woolworths. ditto for bunnings. a new masters store is going to be built just down the road from bunnings at mt gravatt. woohoo!

      • :D I have a Bunnings NEXT TO a Masters … it's very nice :D

  • Thanks OP…. Just ordered $500 worth of gift cards. How long would it take to process & receive ??

  • nm..

Went to Prospect Woolworths and they gave me a lot of hassle and wouldn't allow me to buy gift cards using the e-gift card and wouldn't even let me use the voucher because it said "Big W". Just shows how little knowledge employees have of Woolworths Ltd and their own division of stores lol.

It's okay. I went to Big W above and bought a tonne of wish gift cards lol.

    • Just tell them it is eGift card and no need to show them anything.

    • I had trouble at Big W trying to buy a TicketMaster gift card. I couldn't pay for it at self checkout as the scales wouldn't activate. I was then told at checkout that gift cards couldn't be used to pay for gift cards. Grrrr!

      • What store is this? Maybe you should try a different store since most of us have had luck! GL

        • Forest Hill, Victoria. They were already 10% off so I didn't bother trying elsewhere. Next time I will.

  • +1

    Help!
Can someone please advise on how to use this at Masters, I was at the store before and the lady at the checkout didn't know how to process my voucher at the checkout.

    Also, at Celtex too?

    Thanks

  • +1

Was in Woolies just now and noticed the 'egift' option on the self service console.. dunno how long thats been there

    • +2

it's been there a while. i've used it before.

    • +1

I'd say it's been there since Woolies introduced the eGift Card system. As you need to key in the card number, rather than swipe a physical card through the reader, you would otherwise be unable to use eGift Cards in-store.

  • Can someone please confirm that you can purchase use these gift card at Dick Smith. I'm wanting to buy a laptop, but don't want to be wasting it on gift cards which cannot be used there. Thanks in advance!

  • can anyone confirm that you won't get hit with a foreign transaction fee?

    • As all Groupon purchases are transacted overseas, it depends on your particular card fees. Mine was processed in Dublin.

Purchase is in au$ which may, in the worst case be converted to us$ etc, then back to au$ payment.

As you commented previously, Groupon warn about possible overseas transaction fees on Credit Cards - hidden in their t&c we all agreed to. You will be refunded upon request, but most won't realise that or bother asking.
(email them is possibly easiest, but expect a slow response, they may ask for a copy of your bank statement.)

I use 28degrees MasterCard with Groupon purchases, just in case.

      • I use paypal and credit card account, there is no foreign transaction fee I can see.

        • Won't be as PayPal transaction is in au$ billed to Credit Card in Australia, so no PayPal conversion or additional Credit Card fees.

My PayPal account is also linked to 28degrees - for fee free overseas transactions.

    • I got a $55.50 OS tax fee - currently waiting for Groupon to get back to me regarding not stating it would be processed OS in their terms and fine print. At that rate of charge it would be cheaper for me to buy these any day of the year via AGL or motoring body for the usual 5%.

Don't forget the other ways to reduce your spend at Woolies …

    • Multiple EDR cards (1 per household member, plus the cat etc)
      — gives 3 free deliveries per new card
(re-register card with different email to reset free deliveries)
      — Don't use 1 or more of those EDR card for a while, then use once.
Woolies sends out email enticement to keep using the card, like $10 off $50 spend (used to be $10 off $30, you may receive new offer for several weeks)

    • Higher Scanned Price = it's free!
—My Woolies deli repeatedly has the wrong price at the start of each catalog period. The deli manager just asks what am I going to get free this week. I buy olives, cheese etc, then take to service counter. Deli manager just tells them to give it to me free. (The deli scales don't update prices at the start of sale period, so weighed items on special scan at higher price, at least at my Woolies. This mainly works for items without displayed reduced price. Also worked for prepackaged Dutch cheese last sale period. Manager says he cant do anything to stop his scales making errors - so it's free if you realise it, otherwise you pay more!)
      — Also works for standard pricing errors. Used to get 500g Tasmanian smoked salmon packs free for nearly a year. Lower shelf price is usually updated quickly, so need to try next Woolies. But some stores never change the incorrect shelf price.
      — limited to 1 item of each product (products sold by weight may be many kg/item)
Plus, refunds on scanning errors sometimes are given in cash, especially if you pay with eGift/Gift Cards - it's easier for staff, who otherwise need to give you a physical gift card to the refund value. That gives an additional small profit on this discounted deal ;-)

That saved me $20.50 & $10 on two $50 (mainly on special) in-store shops last week :-) Paid by old 5% rebated ING PayWave saving extra $5, so a discount total of 35.5% with cash refund :-) (That's why an extra 2.5% discount for tying up my money didn't really excite me.)

      Saving with online deliveries

      Use the Woolies coupon codes.

Get free delivery with new/ re-registered EDR Cards as above.

Deliveries of weighed items (meat, chicken, fish, deli, etc) are usually overweight - a nice bonus.
Larger portions of meat (e.g. chicken breast) have the greatest chance of being overweight.

A recent delivered deli purchase of 250g olives ($5) was refunded as it was shown as underweight on the label - by about 2 olives. Just took 1 email, with photo of label, to get refund. Free food;-)

      NOTES:
Refunds on orders paid by eGift / Gift Card are made by a code (associated with that EDR card/ account) for discount off another delivery order on that account. If that doesn't suit, tell them to send refund as eGift Card, but it will take time to arrange.

Multiple eGift / Gift Cards can be used to pay for order.

      • They always just refund the amount they missed out for me. Prorata if a coupon used. Even if they only delivered $1 worth when I ordered $10. They still refund $9 or less if prorata.

    • (re-register card with different email to reset free deliveries)

Do you mean I still keep the same card number and all my 4-cent fuel saving evouchers by simply changing my registered email will get 3 free deliveries?

      • You keep the same card number, just register it again online with new details (mainly email address).
You will probably lose any benefits like petrol vouchers, so use those up first.

By having more than 1 card, you can easily build up points & petrol vouchers on the main EDR card, re-registering the other card for free deliveries.

Benefit of this system depends on value of deliveries to you. I have not paid for my deliveries in a few years. I get more fuel vouchers than I can use. My main card does accumulate points, which are not of great value.

        • Thanks for your reply. Can you recycle all your email addresses? If not, sooner or later, you will run out of email addresses.

        • +2

          @Joe888:
Plenty of advice around on how to slightly change email addresses.

Gmail - just add a '.' within first part of address. So [email protected] etc is delivered to [email protected]. Other addresses may accept 'anything.' in the front of address. Yahoo has temporarily email addresses. Experiment & send yourself an email to check it's safe delivery before using it in registration!

(Not necessary in this case) Modify street address if you live in a house, add '1/' etc in the front. Deliveries & post still arrives, but multiple 1 per household offers are usually accepted, except where they use postal address checking on their site. Handy to differentiate different OzBargain offers.

These hacks should be known by every OzBargainer ;-)

      • Had a PM that free deliveries for new EDR registration may have ended.

    • How does 'higher scanned price' work? I don't get how it can be free if your item is being scanned at the higher price?

      • Scanning policy of major supermarkets. If the scanned price you bought at is higher than the shelf or catalog price, you take it to service counter for full refund. That is they overcharged you. You must pay then complain to get it free.

        • Don't you have to return the item you purchased when requesting for a full refund?

Also if you want to keep it then will they make a manual adjustment to only refund you the price difference?

        • @delfredo:
Yes - you return item & complain. They check the correct price, give you the refund and the item purchased:-)

Refunding price difference is a ploy to avoid paying out on their scanning policy - don't fall for it. Tell them you know you are entitled to 1 free product under store policy. Further products - refund difference between price charged & correct price. Staff sometimes don't know the policy.

        • @brucefromaustralia:
Thanks for clarifying. I found the following too:
          http://www.woolworths.com.au/wps/wcm/connect/webSite/Woolwor…

Only the 1st item is free (say if you buy 100 of the same item).

        • +2

          @delfredo:
As I said limited to 1 item of each product, so if it is a weighed item, make sure it is heavy ;-)
But that doesn't stop you trying again later or at a different store.

Kept me in free expensive nuts for a year at uni. Woolies never corrected the error, which also meant they were overcharging others!

So getting free food is a public service, to encourage stores to charge the correct price.

    • Hey brucefromaustralia I tried registering an EDR card then put the number in my WW account. But no free deliveries. I thought the free delivery might have ended.

  • I bought the e-gift card through the entertainment book offer last month and have used at the self check out at BigW and at caltex to buy petrol with no problems. If you've got a caltex nearby then it's worth using the gift card solely for that.

  • how I can do Cashrewards cashback if I purchase 2x$200 ?

    • By the published terms, you wont get it. However, if you want to try, login to Cashrewards and then search for Groupon, then when you get to Groupon login to Groupon then search for the deal.

  • Have anybody received the eGift card yet?
I bought it on Friday morning but still didn't receive the gift card (did receive the groupon confirmation email though)

I think they say up to four business days.

Hi all, wonder if I can re-fill OPAL (at selected Woolies store) with this e-Gift cards? Can someone confirm please? TIA

    • +1

Yes, I've done this a few times now.

  • -1

Lol @ the overseas payment processing with groupon making this deal hardly worth it.

    • I used PayPal (linked to AMEX) without any processing fees

    • I know Groupon's payment system is more complex than it should be. But if you were smart in your payment choice (PayPal option is usually a smart choice in any deal), read the advice of potential overseas transaction fees in this deal, there would be no chance of additional fees.

But tying money up for an additional 2.5% discount (there are other ways of getting 5% discount - like PayWave card rebates which don't tie up funds), buying through a group buying site with a structure that may lead to overseas transaction fees, and having to wait days on eGift card delivery - may not be that great a deal for some.

  • Recieved three links for my three eGift cards in an email early this morning.

  • Received mine too :)

    • Still nothing here. Anyone else had theirs?

      • Got mine from [email protected], ordered on 17th, billed in Zurich that day.
I'd say they processed in a huge batch after deal link showed "Sold Out".

      • Ordered on the 16th… still waiting. :(

        • Delivery possibly may be faster for those who already have an account & previously bought Gift / eGift Cards.

        • same here. Still waiting from 16!

  • +1

First report of overseas transaction fee on this deal. So check your credit/debit accounts if you paid by card.

Raise complaint with Groupon, which says it will refund. Probably need to send copy of statement or screenshot showing fees.

Although the possibility of bank fees & refund is in t&c, it is not prominently disclosed.

Customers would reasonably believe purchases that can only be made online with an Australian site & business, would be processed within Australia.

A complaint to the ACCC is warranted, as the failure to clearly disclose (additional costs associated with deal purchase) is of broad public interest & may occur in other Australian online businesses.

No issue if paid by PayPal or cards with no foreign transaction fees like 28degrees.

  • I have something weird happening with my eGift cards. The Groupon iPhone app shows them all as redeemed as of 11:41am this morning, even though I haven't used any of them yet. Anyone else having this issue ?

    • Not weird, thats how this deal works.

Groupon app or account do not show your Woolworths eGift Cards. That's not where you find them.

Groupon are selling these for Woolies, but Woolies supply the eGift Cards. Groupon do not know if you have used any eGift Cards.

You are looking at the almost useless Groupon voucher - which is theoretically used by Woolies to issue the eGift Card via email. You don't redeem the voucher, Woolies does.

The Groupon voucher is basically a receipt of this deal.

It is the [email protected] email which is important - with the link to download the eGift Cards.

Check your emails, not your Groupon account!

      • Thanks. That cleared things up.

    • +1
    • +1

the woolworths system of issuing gift card by emails is very insecure. anybody that happens to intercept or access the email can easily access the gift card and use it.

      • yes, one of my egiftcards (purchased weeks ago) never showed up. I contacted them and they said it had been sent the day before. So my concern was that it was lost in cyberland and how was I to know who may have been in receipt of it. The response from Woolworths Money was unsatisfactory in that they didn't see what the problem was and sent another copy. Sent them another email to point out the problem a second time, and they didn't respond. Point is - I use them but they are very insecure as a form of payment.

        • And that from someone called the artfuldodger ;-)

These issues were discussed earlier in this deal.

Delivery certainly could be more secure than an emailed link to a pdf file. Surely could be sent to EDR account, with password protection, or a secure wallet within it.

Most likely the email was never sent, or may be hiding in the bin with the spam.

Woolies possibly would compensate any loss if you could show hacking of account, etc. They would not want uncertainty in customers minds, threatening their eGift Card system. They've got a lot invested.

Have you checked the eGift Card balance as suggested by unity1? That would quickly show fraudulent transactions on the card.

  • For those who have received their e-vouchers, is the sender [email protected]?

  • I have a no of egift cards with balances of less than $1. Does anybody know how to use them all?

    • +1

      Self service checkout at Woolies?

    • Online orders take multiple eGift Cards.

Easier than instore, as you don't need to enter amount to be able to use. If you enter a higher amount than balance at self-serve checkout, it calls a staff member & you wait!

I've used balances as low as 1c online or self-service checkouts.

      • Thanks

  • This deal seemed to expire before midnight today. I was waiting until the last minute to make the credit card payments easier for this deal but unfortunately have missed out. A lesson learnt for next time.

  • orderd on the 16th and still waiting…………anyone still waiting??

    • +1

      Yes.

    • i am waiting too! anyone knows how long it takes?

    • Yep. STILL waiting. :(

  • Hi I ordered this on the 18th and all I have received is the Groupon confirmation plus all the Groupon emails relating to the voucher code (including the barcode) but these are from Groupon not as stated from everydaygiftcards.com.au. I was getting impatient and when I logged into my Groupon account, I saw all the pdf vouchers with a barcode and I tried to test this out at Woolies - using the self service machine to enter the egiftcards but there were not enough numbers to enter and staff said it doesn't look like the right voucher.

I am wondering, should I still be waiting for an email from everydaygiftcards or have the vouchers arrived from groupon but I don't kow how to use it?

    • Need to wait for the email from Woolies. The Groupon pdfs do nothing.

    • Read this explanation above.

  • i finally got my cards in my inbox this morning

  • Ordered on the 16th and finally got mine at 4am this morning!

    • Same here.
      Yay!

  • So is it recommended to convert these to physical Wish gift cards to avoid aby possible issues with using them in store or at petrol stations?

Any downside to doing this? Can Wish cards be used online?

    • I converted all of mine at the local woolies today, it was super easy! I prefer having physical cards and getting the denominations that I wanted.

      • Same. Converted all my BigW ones at Woolies today to physical gift cards. No problems at all. The manager even mentioned a lot of people were doing the same thing today!

      • +1

i preferr e-gift cards. i just store all the numbers on my mobile phone. no need to carry around cards.

  • Hi, I got mine this morning.

  • Same here. Ordered last Friday, only got them this morning.

  • sold out?

    • +1

i've updated the deal with another link that appears to be working

  • How could i get this working with Dickzmith? Cheers.

    • -1

      It wouldn't work.

      • Whys that? on the other thread, ozbargainers said it would work.

      • +1

Sorry I forgot the work around of buying dse card at wow stores using this voucher. So yes it can be done as per ozsikhs.

    • You can buy dick smith gift card in Woolworth or Big W

      • Is it possible to buy like a Woolworth a gift card or any other kind instead?

        • +1

yes you can, I bought few yesterday. :)

  • Hi guys, op advertises a 5.6% cash back with this deal, but the groupon site says it's excluded from their cash back deal. Am I missing something?

  • Anyone know if the bigw still stock the Myer&Coles Group gift card? Or any other way to get that card with this egift card? Cheers!
