    Good price, but if I recall right, there is a dull layover and the onboard entertainment isn't much better

      Yes, there's a long layover.

      27 Oct 2015 = MEL-NAN-LAX 3 hr 51 mins, arriving 5:50am with a layover of 15 hrs 50 mins, departing 9:40pm.

      On the return, the layover is "only" 12 hr 10 mins.

        From Syd … going to LAX layover is 3hrs & return it is 1hr 15 mins

      Yeah, unfortunately I missed that one. Also, the travel period didn't extend into November which is what I need (also need 6 months notice for leave to be accepted at my Dad's work)

    What are Fijian Airways like? Do they have inflight wifi and the works? Or some old DC-10 with yellowing cigarette-smoke stained interiors?

    Hi guys, I flew Fiji last year, It was the their A330 from LAX-NAN-BNE, I've flown the BNE-LAX a couple times with Qantas, so I've got a few flights under my belt.

    My thoughts:

    "new" 330 = plane is new but it feels like the budget seating setup, similar to tiger to jetstar (which is fine for an hour) The flight felt long, the seat was pretty uncomfortable and the leg room is less then Qantas' flights.

    Entertainment = Used Ipad + battery pack

    Layover = Terrible. International airport is tiny with nothing to do, it was a 3 hour stop over so just enough time to do nothing at all. there are only a few shops and a few food outlets in the terminal, and it's the typical plastic terminal seats so sleeping is right out.

    Price = $1150 return, damn good price.

    Booking = Not the best, they canceled my outbound flight all together and re-booked it 2 days later. Which is kinda crappy for a 12 day trip (as well as non-refund transfers), so I rang the customer service dept in Fiji and and got a good rep who eventually after some emailing got me on the equivalent Qantas flight for the same day.
    So overall I was happy with my outcome, but Fiji is definitely in the basket of "cheap" airline, which means you have to be flexible for changes and delays.

    Soooooo the big question is…. Would i book again?

    Maybe…..if it was significantly cheaper then Qantas/Virgin.

      Just checking … entertainment you say was an ipad. The article seems to indicate a 9 inch inbuilt touch screen system + the photos show inbuilt entertainment in the back of seat in front. Sure you were on their A330s

    I believe they operate some Boeing 737-800s Australia - Fiji and Airbus A330-200/-300 Australia - Fiji and Fiji - LA. They Also have a 737-700 (smaller than -800) which occasionally visits au.
