Noticed something strange about the COTD website …

If you search for the Knog Kabana lock (i.e. for a different colour) and add it from the search results there is no discount applied.
If you go through the 30% off link on the main page, then use the filter for Knog brand, all of the colours that are available are then 30% off.

This is with all items for the "Boxing Day" sale.
If you search for an item and add it to the cart there is no discount but if you log in through the 30% off, 40% off, or 50% off banners on the main page and then apply the filters, the discount is added.

The way to be sure is that when you open the item from your cart, the breadcrumb will show which sale group it was added from.

Has anyone experienced the same thing? (I'm using Firefox, haven't tried other browsers)

For another example, using the search the Play School melamine cup and bowl set are full price (if you look at the breadcrumb it displays the items under the "Feeding Essentials For Bub!" category), although if you select the Play School filter when in the "Boxing Day: Get An Extra 50% Off In Cart" category, 50% off is applied to the same item.

    • Yeah, I noticed this last night, as well. Using Chrome on tablet.

I've found an easy way to ensure/check a product is 30/40/50% off:
Notice the URL of the item (this is the thicker, $19.99 bike lock)

      No 30% discount:
      https://www.catchoftheday.com.au/product/knog-kransky-cable-…

      With 30% discount:
      https://www.catchoftheday.com.au/event/44406/product/knog-kr…

Notice that, the only difference is the "event/44406/" bit after the site. That bit specifies the "30% off" section. If you simply add it to the URL, then it switches to the 30% off category (you can see on the page).

Similarly, 40% off is "event/44407/" and 50% off is "event/44408/". You can test if an item is discounted by doing the following:

      Find the item you're after.
Add "event/44406/" to the URL, and click "add to cart". If it fails, then it is not in the category. Repeat for "event/44407/" and "event/44408/", and you can ensure you get the maximum discount!

    better cable locks

I suppose it's a relative thing, but you should only be using cable locks for accessories.

Use the cable lock between the front wheel/frame and object the bike is secured to. Use a D-lock between the rear wheel/frame and object the bike is secured to.

      A jack can't break a cable lock and bolt cutters can't cut a D-lock like a Kryptonite.

  • Yes, even if I add a second cable lock at the summary page, it reverted to the higher price.
But thanks - eventually got one for $8.27.

  • What about the Kransky model? Any good?

A primer on locking one's bike:

    • Serrin, THAT article was great!!!! Thanks!!!

    • just ride on a bike that looks like crap and nobody in their right mind would want to steal. problem solved

      • it's what I do for my office/city bike (truly terrible looking bike but runs really well)

      • I got my bike from the Howlong tip for the 'Ozbargain' price (i.e., free, without a Facebook like): it's a heavy bassturd that nobody in their right mind would want to nick (even though it has front & rear shockers). The most expensive thing on it is the gooseneck extension ($4.59 delivered from The China).

Frankly, all these folks who have bikes that cost upward of a grand (minimum) need their heads read: if the aim of riding a bike is fitness, why go for something that you could lift with one finger? (I suppose they can get a bike to match their faaaabulous MAMIL Mardi Gras-style kit: not that there's anything wrong with that).

I understand it for guys who actually race - a mate of mine does so at a decent level - but for 'normal' bike rides a heavier bike -> more effort -> more calories burned per km… and the ignominy of having to get off and push, on the very last hill 150m from home.

You're back onto your Mardi Gras rant, I see. The number of times you post about the Mardi Gras makes me wonder if indeed you're leading up to a big announcement. We at Ozbargain are a very supportive bunch. Just come right out and get it off your chest. Either that or just drop the whole Mardi Gras thing. Its reaching troll-like proportions. OzB isn't the right platform for your homophobia.

You seem very narrow minded. It was actually funny reading such an ignorant post.

    I prefer combination locks,

you don't need to carry the keys with you..

also these can only long around small poles..not trees

  • deal updated - now $9 :)
